Today was a day full of firsts. I left Santa Cruz and drove North up Route 1. I’ve never driven this stretch of PCH before. Had a coffee break at Pigeon Point Lighthouse. And then up to Half Moon Bay where I fueled up before continuing on to downtown San Francisco. The stop in San Fran was to check out some shoes that I’ve been wanting. The shoes are a very unique style of barefoot shoe by a company named Wildling. Wildling had a pop-up shop with samples of their products. It ended up being a great chance to try the shoes on. And I was able to get all my questions answered from a very helpful Wildling rep.
Then I headed out of the city by way of the Golden Gate Bridge. This was the first time I’d driven over the bridge. Then I drove on to Petaluma before making a quick dinner and getting some much needed sleep.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

Buddy as soon as I got into my late 40's I've been taking afternoon cat naps, they do wonders!
also I as well can't stand driving in the cities especially Montreal it's just to risky.. my van is my everything.
besides in Montreal just crossing the street is considered a martial art !
awesome you packed a full day into a 34 minute video.
    satisfying too watch, cheers!

Yes, I remember that light house ... and that wind lol ... My Chevy Blazer had radiator problems (turned out to be the thermostat) ... and I made the mistake of trying to raise my hood in that wind. ... The wind ripped the hinge of my hood off, and I was flyin' - holding on to it ... but I got it down ... I had forgot about that episode ... thanks for the reminder ... lol ... that 101 route is very nice, especially after all these rains ... but when your engine & trans are fixed it's worth it to take that route 17. It's enchanting ... like gnomes would be popping out between redwoods that go up forever ... it's like time stops ... I'll never forget route 17 ... just chatting during the commercial break ... I'll be back 😺💜

As an ocean guy myself, you definitely went the best way north on 1 instead of 17. Glad the van didn’t get broken into there on Fell St. The youngsters call it bipping and it’s definitely a thing here.
The area where that open market is used to be an elevated freeway that was partially demolished after the ‘89 earthquake, that’s why there is the odd mix of oddly shaped new and old buildings and open spaces, in case you noticed. Continued safe travels Scott!

Next time you go that way you'll have to stop at Duarte's Tavern in Pescadero. Its a funky old place with great food, especially the artichoke soup and cioppino. Highway 1 is the way to go to SF but Devil's Slide can be scary unless they fixed that part. My grandfather worked on that bridge, one of the original crew of painters. Many bridges only charge toll one way. BTW I learned how to drive a stick shift on those SF hills!

Dear little Seagull who so enJOYed some pizza with me. On one of my videos titled ..Kindness.. there the Seagull may be found with the Lighthouse in the background of the photo. Pigeon Point, a name to remember and too, a cousin of Doves and Seagulls.

@@violetatcontentboutique7188 No, I'm referring to the park areas in the NW corner of San Francisco, Lands End (also Fort Miley, the Legion of Honors and Baker Beach) that have really spectacular views of the ocean, Bay and Bay Bridge. Definitely worth driving through those areas if you're nearby and stopping to enjoy. I would not recommend leaving a vehicle containing valuables parked in those areas, though. There are a lot of break-ins. But you can enjoy all the views and just stay near your vehicle. There are other places that are also called lands end, maybe one of those is what you're referring to.

In 71 I was on vacation with Mom, and Dad visiting my older brother Dan in Vallejo. Dan spent a couple of years out there... and there are too many stories. The one that stands out for me is how his 52 International Travelall had wiring problems in the firewall (I spent the whole time there holding a flashlight), and he would start it by letting out the clutch while rolling down the alleyway out back. . Anyway, when the truck was reliable to drive he drove us all around the Bay area, and we all had dinner in at a place called "the old spaghetti factory." I am surprised that you did not attempt to explore Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
Lots of good walking, museum, and California Academy of Sciences.
Next time on those steep hills, FIRST GEAR!!
Highway 17, my small opinion, not so great for scenery, other than watching other drivers chicane the curves. HAHAHA!
And after you get into the Santa Clara Valley, more defensive driving. I think you took the nice relaxing route. Congratulations for safely escaping the metropolis.

You did not stop at the bakery in Pescadero??? BOOOO!!!
You might have also enjoyed drive Highway 9 north out of Santa Cruz.
Winding hills through the redwoods, although some storm damage might have made driving through detours or closures. I dont know exactly the days you traveled.
Then north on Skyline to San Francisco. A very scenic route with great views.

Very much enjoyed your video of your visit through my neighborhood! It is way intense here, the neighborhood I’m in is unbelievable! If it’s not too late, make sure and research and consider visiting point Reyes national seashore! I live in San Francisco and try to get up that way on a semi-regular! It is gorgeous and make sure if you go, you go all the way out to the lighthouse! It’s a long drive, and will likely be windy and cold, but the beauty of the area will not disappoint and it is a world class experience!

It’s always great getting back to a location that stocks your favorite coffee after traveling for a while. Makes you appreciate it more. I just was able to get my hands on some of my favorite beans after traveling in other locations for a while. Moab Coffee roasters in Utah, they have a great light roast called ‘ arches’. Great video, enjoy your trip north. I’m slowly making my way to Oregon for the summer.

I don't care for big cities at all. They are scary to me - can't handle all the traffic. It makes me dizzy. I HAVE been across the bridge a few times (I wasn't driving), but it's been about 25 years. I have no desire to go again. 😂 Btw, Hwy 1 is gorgeous! I love the ocean AND the mountains. Also, the shoes look super comfy - I like the pink ones! Have a beautiful week!

Hi Scott! I hope you see this comment. I just wanted to let you know that I am taking a vow of silence, to an extent; so this will be my last comment on your channel (probably). I will still always watch the entire videos and give a thumbs up and watch the ads. You just won’t see me anymore. Thank you for making these videos; they have truly been a blessing in my life and have helped me get through some dark days! I am eternally grateful!

By the way...Yes, your purchase of salmon is the same kind I'm given to purchase. Been doing so for a few years. Back a year or so it was running approx $1.50 a can and thus
$18.00 for a case of 12 thru Amazon. I thot when first opening the can, How neat and clean and good sized chunks, not the flakey mush. Then at some point when prices were rising with seemingly everything and the salmon went to approx $2.00 a can I thought ..outrageous.. the price went further up and didn't purchase for awhile. Good situation I had the 12 cans and it would last awhile. I'd keep track and when getting low on product is when I'd buy again. Approx $4.00 a can at some point you know of...wow!! It is one of the foods I like and can eat. I like you have certain foods that are agreeable to me.
I hope you share how you make the salmon. If you already have then I will surely find out as your videos I view.

While sharing regarding foods that I have food agreeable and so much so that after a single bite I feel almost right away better... Is a health type bar. NUTRA GRAIN. Both the blueberry and apple I most enJOY the flavors of. There is a strawberry one, only to me unable to taste that flavor. The apple more the spice flavor of apple pie to me. The bars are soft.and without a sugary candy taste. More of the grain taste, kinda like oatmeal.
