Today was strange. Everything was difficult. From getting out of bed to everything else I did. It wasn’t a bad day, just difficult.
Today I got out my portable espresso maker and made myself a latte. It’s so cool to be able to make a latte in my van. Then I took a hike at Jug Handle State Preserve. I’d been to this preserve recently, but today I wanted to hike through the Pygmy Forest. There’s an extensive staircase built along the trail. For the most part, this is a fairly easy trail. I highly recommend checking this area out. It’s a few miles from Mendocino and Fort Bragg, in the town of Caspar.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

Even with getting a more expensive conical grinder, and electric milk frother, I've still saved so much money over the years. And the ones I make taste better than some $8 10oz lattes I've had.

I believe a drink with espresso and hot milk is called cafe au lait. A very nice coffee drink.

    • @StaticCamperVan
      @StaticCamperVan  Před 2 lety +1

Names have different meanings in different areas. Here in the states we interpret Cafe au Lait literally, as in Coffee and Milk. Since I was mixing Espresso and Milk, we refer to it as a Latte. Although in my mind, 5 ounces of milk, two shots of espresso and No foam is a Flat White. But again, different areas might use a different name.

There is another Pygmy Forest with a boardwalk to explore, up the Little River Airport Road. You were there the other day at that road…it’s right across from the cemetery. ThenPygmy Forest up there has the skinniest trees that are very old and mature and interpretive sights to explain how the Forest came to be. Have you walked up the Big River Estuary yet? So beautiful just right there below Mendocino. Beautiful beach, plenty of parking . Just minutes up the trail there are Big Trees! As for the WD-40, your sink is used as a "dry sink" so no threat of becoming sick from toxic chemicals, and you are a grown man who seems to employ good common sense. Geez. I am just impressed that you keep your "home on wheels" clean, and you cook and know how to be self-sufficient. Listen, l have known some men that would starve without someone to take care of them so way to go, Scott! And it was definitely a female that sent the email, men could care less if you never cleaned at all, they are more interested in your coffee grinder and espresso/latte. As usual, you are enjoying and reaping the rewards of God's beautiful oceans, lakes, parks and nature trails and even though l understand your dislike of stairs, we should give thanks for even those annoying roadblocks. You are in better shape than you think, l would have definitely been huffing and puffing all the way! Enjoy your weekend in whatever you do and remember to always give thanks for all things even a pesky subscriber email that l am sure just had your best interests at heart. God Bless!

I believe I like coffee as much as you, usually light roast for me, why is it alot of light roast are medium and some mediums are to dark? Nothing better than a simple homemade chili it hits the spot. I really enjoy your video's and the walks you take us on thank's for sharing them and take care out there.

Coffee companies should use the proper grading names instead of the general terms like light, medium or dark. When I see “City Roast” printed on a bag of coffee, then I know that it’s the exact roast level for my preference

@@StaticCamperVan You said it, City Roast is the proper term for a light roast, City t Roast is a light to Medium and is what I want. Full City Roast is a full medium and usually to dark for my liking, thanks for the reply and I'll stop back by on the next notification to see what your up to!

You mentioned not having a signal on your phone. I travel in lots of semi-remote areas and even though I have Verizon through a Mobile virtual network operator (MVNOs), I noticed that a friend with a phone through Verizon had a signal when I did not. When I checked into it I learned that many (perhaps most or all) MVNOs advertise that your signal is over the Verizon network, but they don't tell you that you do not necessarily have access to the entire Verizon network. That's why a true Verizon phone from Verizon may work in a semi-remote area but a MVNO phone running over the Verizon network may not. Very few people know this and the MVNOs do not tell you this. Just something to be aware of.

Thanks. My MVNO is Visible which is Verizon. I am very happy with the service and coverage overall. $25 for unlimited service is an awesome deal even if I very occasionally loose signal when I’m down in a deep cavern or way out in a forest.

Don't understand why people make such a big deal of WD40. I'm sure some people do questionable things. To each his own. Have a great weekend.

Been trying to get my sink looking that shiny. Think I'm gonna pick up a small can myself and try it out. I've used Clorox and then pink stuff but it's doesn't make it as shiny as yours.

If you didn't try, you really should buy an Italian moka pot (i.e. Bialetti) instead of that ridiculously complicated pumping contraption along with all other clunky stuff. You can control how strong it is, depending on how much you stuff/compress and fine grind, the boiling water pressure does the rest.
It is dead simple to use and clean, works relatively fast, you don't need anything else and it makes such great coffee, I'm sure you'll throw that thing away :-)
You just have to pick the right size for your needs (how many cups) and every few years replace the rubber seal and it will last for a lifetime.
The sound and smell it makes is also a big part of enjoyment.

In the past, I owned several Moka pots. I had a collection in various sizes. I like the idea of a Moka pot as art, but I don’t like using them.
