Excellent, Polenzani never launches a full scale attack on the first volley, he steadily builds the emotional dynamic and then releases the crescendo. His technique is superb. He's an intelligent singer and actor.

I had a talk with Matthew in Munic Oprnclub and I said to him YOU ARE NOT ONLY A SINGER, YOU ARE AN ARTIST. This i can hear and see here. Never I heard an saw the despair of a man so depply feeled. Forget Corelli and all this guys - they sing only beautiful. But Puccini wanted it in the manner of Polenzani, because he changed what Giacosi and Iliaca had written with only this sentence: I NEVER LOVED THE LIFE SO MUCH, in German: UND LIEBTE NIE SO SEHR DAS LEBEN...

Maybe you got carried away because you saw him live and ,even more so, talked to him. However, from what I see in the video his acting skills don't appear as spectacular as you perceived them. On the contrary portraying Cavaradossi in this scene could be done way better. Physical agility is needed to express a man's despair shortly before his death. Like many other tenors he can't deliver that as a consequence of them being overweight and non-sportive. He has a fine, well-trained voice and sings well. But to say forget about Corelli is presumptuous..... you better watch Corelli's performance as Canio.... About C's vocal capabilities nothing else needs to be said than: outstanding, one of the best tenors in opera history.

Very small voice not suited for this repertoire. Not good. Nemorino maybe. Caravadossi NO! Opera standards are so low nowadays. Sad.
