Fun fact for Sarah of all trades: _"In 1946 the first Toyota sewing machine was constructed under the strict supervision of Kiichiro Toyoda himself, the founder of TOYOTA Motor Corporation."_ Toyota sewing machines are made by Aisin, a member of Toyota Group. 🧐
That's pretty cool!
@@csincos989the Japanese companies had to become Very multi skilled after WWII. Yamaha started from musical instruments. Honda from bicycles and so on.
Yo, the modern day Toyota logo is a thread going through the eye of a needle. Go look at a Toyota logo right now.
I think Suzuki originally started with weaving machines.
Cool multi viewpoint on the Toyota logo!
@@that0rangerthankyou 👊
Sarah is the type of woman to get out a timing gun to fix her sewing machine
Don't forget the Dwell meter.
hahaha "yep, it's 15° advanced for more powerful stitches"
Rudimentary, manually-operated upholstery machine?!? I did not see that coming. I love this kinda content. It's all about the discovery and problem solving. Great stuff!
Good Lord, the stuff you go through, Sarah. It's exactly what brings people like me (or just me ;) ) back for more. Your persistence, patience, willingness to tackle any kind of challenge, and learn something new for all of us is so fun, all while keeping your sense of humor. It's what makes your channel so unique. Thanks - there's something new to be gleaned from virtually every one of your vids. Thank you!!
So true!
Oh, gurl! I have sewing for about 50 years. I wish I were in your town to do this for you. You did a terrific job setting up that machine and bending it to your will. Well done! Congratulations! P.S. Thanks for keeping in all the advice on the machine. I have been thinking of getting one so I can make some waterproof winter shoe liners out of inner tubes or fire hose for our unhoused folks here in St. Louis.
That would be a gracious thing to do if you do decide and carry out the creating and producing. Those folks will be sooo grateful I'm sure
You're awesome
Think u will need heavier duty machine
I have been playing your videos in the waiting room of the car shop I run. Everyone loves it.
Is that even legal to publicly broadcast a youtube video?
@@johnt.848 I live in Canada
@@johnhamlin7868 sorry, I'll type slower 😂
Just hilarious, I've sewn leather and vinyl for 40 years and you really took to it like everything else you tackle. Holding the bobbin thread for the first three stitches is the only advice I'd add. You're a champion at everything. 😂
Sarah, you're just one helluva great fabricator. The stuff you tackle most men would think twice about! So keep on doing what you're doing and we'll watch and learn in awe. Thanks for a great channel.
You are a great example of if you put your mind to something you can do anything.
Sarah-N-Upholstery
Smart, determined, funny, attractive and on top of all that, there's nothing you can't do when you make up your mind to do it. Awesome!
Love seeing you work from first principles - fantastic levels of patience and persistence!
Definition of "Perseverance" - Sarah --n-- Tuned doing car re-upholstery.
We like when Sarah rambles to herself.
The reason for that “double stitch” near the end was that’s where their bobbin thread ran out so they restarted a few stitches back then went in reverse then forward to lock the new thread.
Yup, also a common way to start a seam, forward-back-forward a few stitches locks the beginning down
Great video, Sarah!
To all the 21,000 viewers that didn't give her a like. If you're watching her videos, I'm sure you like them! Just give her like and help her out!
As someone who has no idea on how to sew.. this was fun to watch and makes me feel more confident if I’m ever faced with having to learn to do it myself lol
I always admire your tenacity and your willingness to show your failures while learning. You are an inspiration!
The level of commitment you have for this project is remarkable. I’m sure it points to an underlying mental specialization (or just obsessive personality) that requires doing the best job possible for all things! Amazing Sarah!
I have been looking at these sewing machines because they are so cheap. Thanks for the demo Sarah!
You’ll be infuriated and love it at the same time.
Sarah has the patience of saint
Sarah, your unique style of figuring out how to re-do the interior upholstery in the Corolla yourself, and improving on that extremely cheap chinesium sewing machine to actually make it work better, is nothing short of genius! You are an amazing lady and the banter you call silly, is a delight to see and hear! Never stop what your doing, they way you are doing it Sarah! It's the reason why your fans love and watch you in your video's!! 😁
Hello from the person watching car videos on YT. I never miss a video.
The red plastic finger pointer never disappoints!
I'm laughing so hard I have tears in my eyes. Sarah ain't afraid of nothin'.
You certainly threw a curve ball at your audience today. No one can say your channel is predictable. 👍 You have my attention 100%
Out of time !!!! That’s hilarious. Love the “ this is how Sarah Sews “ video. This is great. !!!!
OMG… I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard and for so long than I did at the first few minutes of this video! I get a kick out of watching you stumble with something new, only to end up producing excellence in just a few days. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
After years of abusing my cheap old Singer sewing machine to the point it has a welded up connecting rod inside, I'm going to look into getting one of these janky shoe menders for this kind of stuff. Never thought I'd get that idea here!
The patients of this women!
I haven't sewn car upholstery since 1977, but back then my dad rented a 1/2 horsepower sewing machine with a clutch. Scary beast, but it handled multiple layers of Naugahyde with ease. Usually four layers, the two separate pieces plus the looped bead. I'm glad he rented that beast.
Wow Sarah!!!! Your attention to detail is second to none..... Well done girl and thank you for showing all of us the value of commitment and seeing things through...... Patience is a virtue that you certainly have.
I’m not surprised by anything you accomplish because you are just the greatest 🙂👍
🏁
The humour in this video had me in stitches. You're a real card Sarah.
Try binder clips. They have more holding power and are way more convenient than paper clips.
My favourite videos are like this one. You talk to us as if we were there, love it. Great video and very informative, stay the F away from sewing machines 😂 got it.
Sarah, you're way to hard on yourself! You're grand! Your videos are a source of solace for me. I don't own a car anymore and likely will never do so again (moved back home to Switzerland after getting disabled and into a big city so a car is an unnecessary and unobtainable lluxury for me right now, parking places alone cost a fortune) but through you, I scratch my car loving itch. :)
Came for the Mechanic'ing and stayed for the sewing
Proof that you can do anything if you put your mind to it and don't give up! Maybe walk away and have a drink here and there, but don't give up after that.
Except sports.
Holy crap, mind is blown by this.
Sarah has reached a new level!
you can ramble all you want you make it very entertaining and real😂
Working on older cars gets us all sorts of new skills. Makes it more fun!
Such a cool car! It's gonna be dope 🔥
Never thought I'd enjoy watching an upholstery stitching video but I did! Go figure. Great work!
Saved money and maintained your standard of quality doing it yourself. And now own and became familiar with another useful tool and learned a skill. Great in every aspect. Turned out great, especially for a first time 👍
Totally amazed by your perseverance and dedication to detail Sarah. I’d counter that another downside of working alone is having someone to tell you sound like an idiot 😂 Beautiful results!
❤ because your avitar is Rammstein
I am also a mechanic, not a seamst-er(?) and I could totally relate to your first attempts at sewing a straight line. The difference is that I would never have been able to progress beyond that. Especially after I consoled myself with alcohol...
Your perserverance and ability to problem solve are endlessly entertaining and genuinely inspirational.
You did a great job on the sewing. After you did a little adjusting on the sewing machine it worked well.
I'm glad you're happy with your sewing machine. Early in the video it looked like it might be a train wreck :) .
The indicator of intelligence is having a problem, seeing a solution and getting the job done. Something that you constantly demonstrate.
Now THAT is dedication! Much respect. 👍
What a great change of pace. A real adventure watching Sarah making the green monster submit to her will.
I'm in awe. I know from years of watching you you can accomplish anything. Thank you for bringing us along on this unique journey. 👍👏👏👏
you have incredible patience. ! Goddess of patience lol
instant pause, just admiring you :)
15:11 Don't blink or you will miss it. Thank you for the Easter Egg, Sarah. 😋
I agree that was a "not an accident Easter Egg" from Sarah. Sarah never does anything by accident. I wonder if anyone else noticed it. Thank you, Ms. Sarah! 😉
I love this segment I think we all learned something
So impressive how you take on these tasks that you've never done before.
Learning is fun. Another skill for you to master.
I'm a big fan of the attention to detail you have. Keep up the great work!
That's the most industrial-looking shoe-mending machine ever!
I watched it twice. Second time a drinking game. Every time you say bobbin.
A walking foot sewing machine is what you need.
Another brilliant episode! Awesome problem solving skills on display yet again.
Not only will this Celica look new and drive like new. But thanks to the cleaning and shmoo removal, it will smell new.
Thank you Sarah!
Thanks Sarah. I really appreciate all of your Hard work. 🔥
My ex-wife is a seamstress and I feel your pain! The bobbin thread running out haunts her nightmares. LOL You learned quick and did a really great job!
As someone with a decent amount of experience reupholstering small car parts and sewing cosplay outfits I think you did a great job!
Kudos to you for not giving up on that pos machine and spending the time learning and getting it done.
I bought a Sailrite machine. They are oringally designed to be portable so you can fix sails while at sea, including a case that makes it easy to store and lug around. You can plug them in but you can also use some of the models manually. Compact, but you can still work on something as big as a main sail with some creativity. Love the machine. It will stitch through layers of heavy materials like it's any Tuesday and mend a sock if you need to do that. The customer service is so awsome, they will help you with anything. They have tons of how-to videos, you can call them with questions. They will even make new videos to show you something specific if they don't already have one. I can't say enough positive things about them and their machines. I don't know anyone that is disappointed with a Sailrite machine unless they didn't buy enough machine trying to be a cheap-ass.
Sarah, your a genius figuring out that mis-assembled machine. Your results are amazing. Great work.
Sarah, as a restorer who does most of my own interiors, I use a walking foot machine (pulls from top and bottom). You can find them used but you could probably get by with a used Juki or Consew. There is a Consew on the Craiglist in Phoenix. You will find that a sewing machine will open up doors for you. Main thing is do not sew yourself into a corner.
That’s not a messed up where it’s double stitched, they ran out and backed over there work to make a stronger ended point and then that little skip you see is where they continued. Doesn’t happen often but it does occasionally. You see it a lot more on clothing.
Thanks for showing me that I ain't shit Sarah. I think I knew someone that could have done that successfully but sadly they are no longer with us. You will never cease to amaze me. I remain increasingly astounded. You are a consummate craftsman, foremost in your ever expanding field.
Sarah, your work on this car just keeps getting more impressive with every new episode!
A walking foot machine you have is perfect.
After watching this video, I learned something. I will never ever use one of those because I don’t have the patience. But u did a wonderful job. ✌️🇺🇸
I was thinking the same! 😆
I know you didn't show it in this video, but WOW, all that work and effort just to learn how to sew your ripped jeans back together.
You even bought a classic car for this. That's some real dedication.
/S
In all seriousness, your attention to detail and willingness to tackle any problem that arises is amazing to watch. It's what makes your videos great.
Epic levels of patience...
You have so much more patience than I do. I think I would have thrown that sewing machine across the shop after 10 minutes. I’m impressed that you were able to figure it out.
I think you would get along great with Jeff from Home Built with Jeff. You guys both tackle pretty much everything yourself. Awesome to watch.
Maybe if you temporarily mount the sewing machine to a cart (like your detailing cart) you can move it where needed and not need extra hands to stabilize the machine. Great work as always, you’re amazing.
I can’t believe what a great problem solver you are. Most impressive. I’m gobsmacked that you (a not an upholstery channel) got that to work. Even if it worked, it would’ve been a miracle for it to work.
Sarah, I'm a bit shocked you didn't think of a simple fix for that tripod stand: Undersized drill + screws, or zip-tie. Or one of those paper clips through the hole!
Wonderful video, I hope it inspires other people to sew up some of their own stuff!
As someone who just started teaching myself to sew, I can tell you that I went through the same fuckery with my electric machine. Great job doing a complex task!
Learning new skills in just about every video, so cool!
Sarah, you have the patience of a saint. I mean, quite obviously you're not a saint but patience-wise the resemblance is definitely there.
Cheers 👍
I feel guilty about saying this but I enjoyed this more than car videos. I have no chance of doing any real work on my car but I do have a sewing machine and have wondered about one that was strong enough for leather. I really applaud your courage at attacking something so new and uncomfortable and not giving up till you got it.
I have a friend who re stitched the front seat on his 72 Monte Carlo by hand using the original holes and using a roach clip attached to a fishing scale to make sure that each Stitch have the proper amount of tension so if you ever start to think that you're a little crazy about this there are people who are worse. beautiful work as usual
Wow, I have one of those machines. They can be a pain. Very impressive how fast you got it n-tuned.
Sarah, If it hasn't been mentioned already, just clamp that sewing machine base into a vice and throw out those cheap tube legs . It will greatly improve its operation and save your back in the process. You do great work...
The way this video started I thought this machine was better suited for a paper weight...but no surprise. You persevered and wow, those panels look fabulous. You rock kid. Can't wait to see this little beast on the road...T.S. Tasmanian Devil....or Taz...toyota
I'm always impressed by the methods of problem solving. Like using paperclips. Simple but effective. And inspiring to think out of the box.
Another tool in the arsenal! Now you could even play around with different materials like Alcantara or adding accent-colored stitching to future builds.
Seeing how beat and faded it was, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the original factory interior colors; with o.e. Matched new floor and door cards, I love it! Nicely done Sarah!
Nice job! Your nails distracted from your lack of sewing history. Very nice.
I love how watch how you learn your skills, and you keep all of it in the video.
I admire your grit & fortitude honey. I'll send you some patches to fix those jeans now that you've got the sewing machine mastered.🚗
