Thanks for a great video! I'm a little curious. Why do you not add straw to the manure? I have a little project going on with button mushrooms that I've been making in agar plates. I got the horse manure, coco coir, vermiculite and straw. Do you think it's possible just to mix it with straw?
Hay there’s a lot easier way and you can do larger quantities with turkey roasting bag I have been doing it that way for a decade 60 pounds at a time will fit in your oven
Do you need to dehydrate the manure? If so why? The only reason I could see would be to possible kill some contams that pasturization misses or getting precise field capacity. Am I close?
Correct me if I’m wrong but are those lids supposed to be used with liquid culture? The reason I’m curious is because I made a super newbie mistake and ordered one of those same lids from Etsy, to use on a grain jar and what happened was the jar suffocated to death. Lid wasn’t allowing proper air exchange. But I’m not sure, like I said.. I could be mistaken.. just curious is all! Thanks for the video and mini series!
why cant you pasteurize the manure first, then add the manure, gypsum, vermiculite to a 5 gallon bucket, mix well, add 3 quarts boiling water mix, cover with lid and wrap in blanket for 24 hrs?
You think I can put the water in very hot, mix and leave overnight with top on? I have done it with coco coir and verm mix and it pasteurized it just fine.
coir is naturally resistant to contams so the pasteurization doesn't need to be as thorough if your using manure you deff need to pressure cook or your gonna have a bad time lol
Whoa bro, that’s far out shit! Literally. But tbh I have no idea about using bird manure or if it carries disease or if I’m just talking out my ass. Wish I could help man!
Chicken manure is the wrong PH ( cant recall high or low) so I imagine quail would be the same. Cow shit is what you find cubes in the wild- the cows eat the spores and they colonize in their stomachs, but because there are so many stomachs, cow manure is devoid of nutrients. Horse manure is best for substrate.
If you're still interested in this just realize bird poop of most types is very hot. ( nutrient rich) So it needs to compost for about 2 years. I use the poop from my chicken's roosting area on my kitchen garden thats 5 acres in size. I found out the hard way about composting it first.
Personally I don’t think it would make any difference because no bacteria would be present after pasteurisation anyway so all it really is, is half digested grass, I’d say that you’d be fine with cow poop 💩
oobbs yes you do need to pasteurize it. At the end the video says to move on to the next step - pasteurizing the substrate lol. It’s really easy though. 👍
@@osiriswills6749 you would think so, but due to a cows digestive system, most nutrients are gone. You find cubes in cow piles because cows eat spores and they colonize inside the cow. Horse is better. I use 20% vermiculite, 5% coco coir , a little peptone the rest horse manure
@@jefolson6989 my technique was different to yours though, I just went out after a rain and hand squeezed the horse manure chucked it straight in the bag and pasteurised it and that worked perfectly well, literally the easiest tek out
@@trexeater101 really. Not field cured? Straight manure, nothing added? I am willing to try different tek, as about every 3rd time I get a bad contamination despite being anal about sterilization. "Neglect tek" just gets me no where

Now this would be a interesting project....💁🏻♀️
Ooooh I forgot you have a horse!!
3 to be exact, still have mushrooms on my mind......💁🏻♀️
Been looking for a vid like this . I’ve been getting away with just using coco coir , but the manure works so much better with the exotic strains 👍🏼
I live close to horse farms giving poop away while coco coir is everyday becoming more and more expensive!
Great video with beautiful music!
The elevator music is killing me, but was definitely informative lol
Best vid bro
If I use horse manure can I use it right from the field?
No. It must be well composted.
great video dude
Mariano Centeno thank you! ✌️

Cow would work the same way ?
Can you substitute with cow manure?
Seen whare you can use black cow from home depot or nearest garden center
What is the music?
If I used this recipe for Panaeolus Cyanescens, would I need a casing layer?
Have you done it? Hows it going?
Hay there’s a lot easier way and you can do larger quantities with turkey roasting bag I have been doing it that way for a decade 60 pounds at a time will fit in your oven
A 'dry' pasteurization??
Thats smart. What do you set the oven at? For how long?
If you are not able to use dehydrated horse manure due to not being able to find it can you use dehydrated cow manure?
Yes you can.
Can it be composted manour and not dehydrated to work? Thank you
Composted works well but keep in mind that many brands treat composted manure with some species of trichoderma which will parasitize your mycelium.
Would cow manure be the same as this tek?
Any updates? How did the final product turn out? Did you leave the bags in darkness after mixing and for how long?
Do you need to dehydrate the manure? If so why? The only reason I could see would be to possible kill some contams that pasturization misses or getting precise field capacity. Am I close?
Late to the game, but the ammonia is what you want leeched out. Soaking the manure, then sun drying several times for a week will do the trick
Can I use goat poop?
How did you dehydrated the horse manure?
I must've missed where you pasteurized the substrate.....
The video titled ‘how to pasteurize mushroom substrate’.
@@WildSatoriForest Ohhhh! Gotcha. I was confused for a sec but thanks for clearing that up! I shall check it out.
What I need to do to the fresh manure collected from stable to bring at per level to your dehydrated manure stage ?
I like to spread a thin layer over a tarp and leave it in the sun for a few days. ✌🏼
I have access to dried manure. Will this work?

This Chopin?
Can you tell me what the small white/clear bugs are in the manure? Will pastureization kill them? Should one worry about something like that?
why cant you pasteurize the manure first, then add the manure, gypsum, vermiculite to a 5 gallon bucket, mix well, add 3 quarts boiling water mix, cover with lid and wrap in blanket for 24 hrs?
I never make anything i dont taste test myself first 😂
Ummm. Ok? Can you finish the process?
Depends what you mean by that? lol
Can i use cvg
Is it possible to add hot water to dry ingredients and let sit over night to use as substrate? I have jars fully colonized on rye grains.
I thought the same thing, id actually do a 50/50 manure/coir and use the bucket tek sterilization.
What can I use in place of the gypsum. I can't seem to find gypsum at any gypsum.
Can I use bone meal???
Hey, it's ok to go without gypsum.
@@WildSatoriForest thanks for replying. I meant to say gardening stores .
Home depot or lowes

Does it have to be composted?
Will it work with cow dung?
absolutely
You probably use the same spoon in your kitchen huh?
Only for cereal 🤷♂️
How many pounds would this make ?
Can you do this with black walnut hills? Is the gypsum the same thing as drywall dust ?
Yes
do you know if i can grow button mushrooms in this substrate?
Mariano Centeno yes you can!
Any substitute for the vermiculite? Not easily found in this part of the world.
Thanks
I’ve read that people use coco coir instead
I have a quail farm and im thinking if it would be a good idea to use the manure ,what do you think?
Whoa bro, that’s far out shit! Literally. But tbh I have no idea about using bird manure or if it carries disease or if I’m just talking out my ass. Wish I could help man!
you have to compost pretty much every kind of animal waste for it to be usable for something you want to eat

Yeah, if I didn’t have gypsum I’d still make it happen, cap’n
