  • So, we know about Mixolydian and Dorian, but when we look at the differences and the similarities, magic happens. I hope this helps with some of your improvising!

    I thought I’d prefer plain old Mixolydian however your final solo convinced me that Mixo-Dorian is where it’s at. Great demo of combining two scales to create a very musical hybrid.

    Other modes work as well to achieve different effects. For example, the main riff in the Grateful Dead's The Other One is an Emaj-Dmaj Mixolydian progression. For the first introductory solo Jerry uses E Dorian, then as the song progresses and gets more psychedelic, he switches to E Phrygian (with occasional major 3rd) for the classic Spanish sound. Lots of fun jamming with these.

    This has got to b my favourite video on CZcams...the back n forth between two scales was really good, but those sick bends with Dorian just give it a whole new "bite"...thanks man...your videos are simple n straight forward and have really helped me better my playing...thanks again...take care

    I saw Petti Backing Tracks on here, I use your infinite wisdom on their awesome tracks. Since, I got one of your shirts my 9yr old son calls me a "fan boy". I think he's throwing CZcams shade at me but I don't care yours vids have opened doors for me, Thank You!

    HA! Just watched "Truly Understanding MODES...PART 1" and dead chuffed with myself, I understood it ~ even had a little strut across the room to celebrate. Then I watched this and my head exploded again [makes a right mess].
