This in my opinion is one of THEE most important lessons ever to grace the YT video arena. Major props, AMG. I would also suggest putting a long dowel stick (sharpen to a dull point in order to stick it into the ground) at least 4 ft. long and film yourself practicing this rhythmic move as you would in a VERY slow, Thai Chi-esque fashion. This can be done just about anywhere. You can even use a mic stand or tripod or something similar inside your home, using an unscrewed broomstick if you're pressed for height space. When the move does not feel one bit alien anymore (which may take a couple of weeks or so), THEN go to a range and hit lob or sand wedges, gradually getting comfortable with each longer club. Keep up the good work, guys!

Your videos have no question improved the consistency of my game. Confidence with all my clubs and in my ability to make the shot I see in my mind has not been this good in years. I’m taking $5 to $15 off everybody I’ve been playing. I feel like a player/golfer again instead of someone who plays golf. This is no Joke! I’ve only been out 4 times this year and shot an 82 before seeing this video. Watched this and went to range once and next time out I shot a 74!!! I even had an 8 (+4) on the score card. I’ve never hit so many Greens in one round and it was all because of this video. My first move off the ball was always a little sway, and I tried to stop doing it. This video gave me permission to come off the ball but taught me what to do after the slight lateral move. I was hitting bomb drives with a draw and solid iron shots. Still need to hone it in a little more, but this single video has changed my golf life. Everyone needs to see this. Thanks so much. Once again, I’m not kidding! Went from 82 to a 74. 74 on a course I’ve never played before either!

I've been watching your videos for a while - I found y'all through Monte Scheinblum. I've been trying to come up with a mental "feel" for this re-centering, and it's been tough. I know this is correct, but it's tough to put into play when you've been shifting everything to the right for so long. I think I've come up with something, finally. I have a forward press, where I kick my right knee in a bit to the left, a little weight goes to my left heel, then I "rebound" back to the right. In the past, I would continue moving right, and end up stuck there - I wouldn't get to my left fully until well after impact, and of course I would run out of room for my arms. Very flat-footed, to paint a picture. Well, this weekend I came up with the mental "cue" to simply start moving back to my left foot as soon as I feel the pressure in my right heel; by the time I actually start moving left, I'm probably somewhere between left arm parallel and 3/4ths of the way to the top. I really feel a 'snap', a downcocking of my wrists, and I end up moving through the ball at a good clip. It worked, at least today....shallow divots, penetrating ball flight, etc. I really played pretty well, and the only thing missing was a balky putter. Anyway, thanks again.

What I love about your instruction, is your quiet approach, and verbal repetition. We are getting into golf season here in Seattle, and my money has to stretch for rounds, but your instruction is on my list for fall-winter, where 90% of my change and learning takes place because golf sucks here then. You came up on my feed when I started watching Mike Austin vids, and the swing mechanics and your teaching prove those concepts. I had never heard of the concept of recentering until I subscribed to your channel.

Wanted to comment on this one. I live on a golf course that was just closed. I had respect for the course when it was open and never played on the course-- always paid. Since it was bought by developers and closed, I go out there and practice everyday after work. Mainly I practice short game and short irons. I went out and practiced after watching your video and slowed down my swing. I hit some chunks but I hit a lot of good balls. One thing I noticed is I was drawing the ball. I have never drew the ball. I've always hit with a fade or straight shot. Most of the shots today were drawing though. Can't say I was dissapointed. I'll definately keep this video in my swing thoughts as I practice, practice, practice...

Last summer I sent you a video and your feedback was that I didn't turn my hips. I struggled all summer trying to turn my hips correctly and I just couldn't do it. I watched this video a couple weeks ago, and found that small lateral move back facilitated not only a hip turn, but also a good shoulder tilt, and a downswing levered by bringing my arm down independent of my shoulder. Not sure if I am doing it right, but my fat shots have virtually disappeared and I am compressing my irons. I am 68 years old and yesterday I carried a 6 iron 180 yards. Amazing for me. Yes, I think this might be my queen bee move. Thanks!

Good stuff guys. Every time I get on the range and find that “magic move” I feel like I’m never going to lose it…then I’ll lose it for a week or so before finding it again. So frustrating! But that’s golf. On a separate note, I’d love to see you guys analyze some of the pros who have seemingly unorthodox swings, like a Matsuyama, or Inbee Park, who seem to have really have two distinct moves, getting all their weight to the back foot, very slowly, then unloading on the ball with their follow through.

Also my back usually hurts after a session like that but with this new move, my back feels great. Your video has transformed my ball striking. Thanks so much.

Ilistened with great interest and I always beleived that between P1 and P3 the Center of Pressure followed the club and after that before the end of the backswing there is a recentering. It's really obvious when you look at Hogan's swing, it's his "magic move" and the reason why je had such a consistent ball striking.

I combined the golf swing, with throwing a baseball (got the idea from another of your videos).
Took my golf stance (no club) - then in slow motion, went through the motion of throwing a ball (down the fairway), without lifting my feet. It became SO obvious how/when to re-center my upper body - even before my right hand was all the way up to shoulder height.
Gradually, turning the throwing motion into a golf swing motion..... it seems obvious that this is what is supposed to happen.
And all my life - I reached all the way to the top of the swing - with my shift to the right at the same time. THANK YOU!

I like what you said in the last third. Drills don’t always work well for me because I will stay in that over exaggerated mode when I get back into the full movement. But going slowly, slowing down until I get it right and gradually speeding it up until I mess it up, then slowing it back down until it’s right and gradually speeding it back up, until it’s full speed. Repeat ad nauseam until it’s my new motion. That’s always been the most effective process for me. It’s usually longer and more difficult than a drill, but sticks with me exponentially better.

  • @CallMeJackWagon
    @CallMeJackWagon Před 3 lety

The fluidity of this move back then forward is key. Doing it slow and exaggerating it in the beginning should help get the feel. The real wont ever sway so much but getting the feel with slower movement should help a lot. Zen Mechanics channel on CZcams teaches this very well and it seems his main focus is teaching freedom of movement like we see here. Great channel to add to your watchlist with this one.

I've managed to cobble together a golf swing over the last few years that works very well for me at age 75. It is a lower body activated swing with the arms and hands playing a supporting role. Although I don't have any supporting videos to prove it, I think that my positions are very close to those in this video. (I do some mirror and laser work and have found ways to use dynamic drills). I have a 2 stage "magic" backswing move that ensures a maximum, on plane and centred hip turn that takes the upper body around for the ride. Stage 1 is a back and up pull of the trail side oblique, followed by stage 2, a move of my pelvis toward the inside of my trail knee. I use the bottom of my zipper as a focal point for the pelvis. The pelvis then moves a couple of inches laterally to trigger the downswing. This lateral move blends into a turn of the left seam of the target side leg to the left to ensure a maximized hip turn. I'd be very interested in any comments that you might have.

The Chunking" you're talking about has actually given me some hope, I've been getting lightbulb moments due to watching some of your videos about how to stop casting, but when I go out on the driving range and put a ball down, I just can't do it! Again and again I do my usual huge cast at the start of the downswing, yet when I slow it down I can do it fine and put it on plane. It's so tempting to want to go at it full speed and gets so frustrating when it doesn't work. Youour advice on letting it all sink in and understand that it could take weeks or even months is now making much more sense, just got to keep patient and keep doing those drills! Is there anyway you can look at creating a video at some point where you emphasize some of the practice drills that you show and maybe have some kind of stages drill that golfers can go through and not move onto the next stage until they have mastered it?

I’ve just watched this and very slowly practiced it. This movement appeared to give me more time and almost automatically dropped the club down on a better possibly slightly inside path. Is this what you would expect to ‘feel’? I won’t know until I start hitting balls
Update...been to range today and used a bay with a face on mirror was able to se and feel the move very slowly as suggested. When I started hitting balls the contact was noticeably different is a very good way. Yes the shots stayed a right sometimes or a slight pull hook, but began to get the feel and the result. High towering 5 irons in particular have always eluded me.

As one of my last 3 balls, I decided to try my driver at about 60 % speed, well, I musta done something right, cuz the ball flew about 230 yards, which is what my old normal swing got me. Hey Guys, 53 years young and getting back into the game after a 3 year break. The core of what I'm seeing here is that the back swing is also part of the downswing in the sense that the lower half is getting into position prior to completing the backswing for the upper half to drive in to. I was taught that the downswing begins by squashing the bug under the ball of the left foot, and this seems only partially correct. You're saying that it is happening while the club is still going back, meaning they are happening at the same time, or closer to the same time, and not separate to each other. I'm a carpenter, farmer, and sportsman, so it seems I do it naturally with a hammer or an axe, but I am artificially holding off that movement until I complete the backswing and it truly feels off. My goal is to get back to the natural, ever so slight forward movement, and that will help set the foundation for a natural uncoiling. Have I understood this correctly? Handicap is in the range of 0-2 most of my adult life. Thanks guys

I think a couple of things you have touched on. The Pros do have what one might strictly observe as a Reverse K shape at the top of the swing - Except that there is a squat and a hip depth that accompanies that position which is different than a Tilt Reverse K. For the last so many years Amateurs have been admonished to NOT Reverse K and that the swing is a completely rotary motion. I think what you guys are showing is what we were taught many, many years ago. There is a Turn backwards into the inside of the right foot followed by a lateral bump to the left and then a turn into the left side and thru the ball. Remember the shaft along the left hip drill? Away from the shaft initially in a rotary manner then a bump to the left and rotation inside that shaft w/o going way past the shaft. Remember Jack used to say the game was played from the inside of the feet. Perhaps an easier way for many to learn this is to feel like they have a short pause at the top during which a left lateral move is felt along with the sensation of a tiny squat and the arms starting to drop before the forward rotation of the upperbody begins. Come to think of it...... the dropping the beach ball with the legs is another good drill for the separation of the upper and lower body that you are describing.

11:20 "Going forward in the downswing...saggy legs" That's kind of the end effect of the "full stop at the top, then go" drill that Tiger did a lot as a kid. The key is to start the downswing with some bending of the knees while actively rolling the ankles toward the target. This promotes a clean strike on tricky lies with forward divot. Works great for short iron trajectory control and accuracy.

This is definitely one of the two or three magic moves. My problem is that the move is so easy and works so well that after a while I think it's ingrained, and I don't have to think about it. And then I gradually stop doing it, and then I forget about the move, and it takes me a while to remember it.
This move has to stay at the top of my list of swing thoughts whether I think I have the move ingrained or not.

Great video guys. I love how you try to help people so much. At first I thought just more guys trying to get subscribers and as many viewers as possible. After watching you guys that's definitely definitely not the case. You put so much effort and time to help us its ridiculous. Thank you for that. I just wanted to add a little bit to this so maybe I can help someone also. You have to have your grip right and posture correct to ever feel what they are saying. Go back and watch there videos on grip and position. I was taking some advise from a golf pro about set up and grip and he had me so screwed up my body wouldn't even attempt to do what is was supposed to. I watched him play a month or 2 ago and the pro doesn't even do what he was telling me to do at set up. I promise if you get your grip and posture correct it will make this alot more understandable. Its hard to explain and I'm not going to try but grip, hand height and club position and set up, posture, and no tension play the biggest role in this. When you get that right you will finally feel everything these guys are talking about. If your making crappy contact, no distance and chunking the ball you more than likely need to go back and start over from the start working with grip, posture, low hands, and no tension. The pro here had me trying to put the club in those positions and you can't just put the club where you want it. Once you get those particular things sorted out it basically does it for you with hardly any tension and you don't even have to think about it. You just have to think about aim and then fire. It will take alot of trouble shooting grip and etc. Alot of hard work and don't give up but don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone either. It took me doing things I didn't think were correct to figure it out. No joke once I got my grip, posture, and stayed in posture figured out in 2 days I went from shooting high 90s to actually in the high 70s. Now I'm trying to figure out my putts and quit being so jerky and hopefully by summer I can be at par or even below par on some courses here at home. Good luck to everyone and sorry this was so long but you guys make me want to help people also. And I'm normally not the helping kind.

Your content is a pretty good combination of techn. details and demonstration of the task. Well done. You maybe should mentioned that the move forward is even essential to come to the ball from the inside. Most of the guys are afraid to move forward because of thinking „gosh I come to late“ and counter reacting. Best regards from Germany

Mike Malaska is saying the same thing. The Pressure shift occurs in the backswing as the club STARTS moving towards the target. I didnt totally understand what he was trying to say, but when you explain it, the light went on.

Man, this is insane!!! I was doing this for years unknowingly. The instructor I had for a year off and on worked on me to stop it. He had me stay "swayed" even at the very top, then he had me fire my hips and turn and flip my wrists. Ever since my game has been shit.

great point on Queen Bee flaw..., in pitching, there are a few technique flaws that will create a chain reaction in the wrong direction. For example, poor ankle bone alignment on the rubber will affect lateral accuracy at home plate. Flaws in other parts will also force bad movements in other parts of the body to compensate for the initially flawed movement and lead to injury.

The use of the avatar and the alignment lines as you discuss the proper motion is very helpful. I was doing exactly what you guys said is wrong and have struggled with consistency......always wasting great drives with a poor second, etc.

I play off 7. Recently barely playing to 15 after 2x golf lessons. What they taught me I'm sure was right, but this short lesson saw 2x4irons 190m+ to 12 ft today after numerous solid and much staighter strikes. I know I'm not supposed to, but I hit 6 9irons to within 15ft on the last par 3 also. Crisp, much straighter.
I really thought after watching this it wouldn't work, or would be too difficult to mimic. Just two easy swings and then onto full swings and everything got much more compressed, further and straighter.
    Thank you.

Great video. Did the early weight shift in slow motion and it seems to promote a proper shoulder turn, my flaw is spinning my shoulder out when starting the downswing, because all my weight is still on the right side. I think this early weight is going to help me.

Mirror mirror on the wall...probably the most underrated yet most effective training aid. Full length mirror with a piece of tape right through the middle top to bottom. Hang it in the garage and make practice swings with or without a club and check your positions. I've made more changes and created a better golf swing by doing that then I think I ever did by beating balls.

Great idea about chunking. Everybody should also remember this. The entire body is in motion throughout the swing, from the trigger through the follow through. If you don't feel the entire body moving when chunking these move you won't fix a thing.

Woah. A light bulb💡just went off. I have occasionally been doing this. I think as a bi-product of my subconscious punching through my suppression of it because I thought it was wrong.... It's so odd because I felt like I was falling backwards but at my indoor range session today I just let it happen and hit MONSTER draws that went 20-30 yards longer than average per club... My 7 iron went 207 yards. All I could think was "this can't look right, I must be making that dreaded reverse K and my head moved a little too"... But I noticed when I unwound and struck the ball my turn had so much more force behind it that came despite using less exertion. I'm still not doing it totally correct. It's happening when I pause for a second at the top of my backswing and let gravity pull me down but I'm pumped I can match it to something correct in the swing. I just need to learn how to initiate it sooner. Thank you guys SO much.

AMG has done a number of videos on the re-center move, and I feel like a learn something new each time I watch. I have heard many times about adding speed to your swing with the crack the whip move, which I feel can only be done if you brace yourself properly in the down swing. I would love to see more content on these two subjects (bracing, cracking the whip).

They are definitely all over this a lot more than I have ever seen anywhere else. In that sense, it really is a magic move! But, when you see guys like Fleetwood, there's no doubt they are doing it. I guess this is another one of those things that I don't understand why it hasn't been highlighted more? One guess is that instructors are scared it comes too close to controversial stack & tilt?

    • @richardjohnson-tb5pz
      @richardjohnson-tb5pz Před 4 lety

@@dand1363 I totally agree. I expect that golf must be a very difficult thing to teach, as no two days are alike. The human body, as well as weather conditions are never the same from one day to the next. The target is forever shifting, and the only way to survive is to adopt some type of system. I remember that when I was learning golf years ago, it was taught to keep your spine angle constant during the swing. This advice nearly destroyed both my back and my golf game. It is for this reason that I really appreciate Stack and Tilt, and the golfing machine, which made me aware of the steady head, and keeping my inclination to the ground instead of spine angle constant.
I am not privy to what system AMG prescribes to, but if I had to make an educated guess, it appears they have studied the best swings on tour using the latest technology, and to their credit they were shrewd enough to throw out the outliers and teach the common moves amongst the greats to teach the masses. It looks like they give a lot of lessons, and are sincerely trying to help golfers in the best way they know without driving themselves into distraction.

With AMG swag, I would at least look smart.
