  • Starting from Workum, we cross the IJsselmeer south to Amsterdam and onto the Amsterdam Rijnkanaal. Big Skies and Big Water! Working boats in Holland are a little bit bigger than I’m used to!

What an adventure. Still enjoying catching up, although I'm watching in quite a random order... I need to get my watching act together. Lucky you had that actor fella standing in for Enda Bannon with you... 😄 that would be a too scary a trip single-handed.

At some point in the future I’ll sit down and rewatch these videos and amaze myself! It a great adventure!

Wow those other barges were very long! I am going to follow you from Melbourne Victoria Australia! Good luck and thank you for the adventures!

Oh wow! Hello Australia! The boats are enormous, but get this they’re building a new canal connecting the Seine with the Rhine in Northern France called Seine Nord Europe Canal and the biggest boats will be 4400 tonnes. You must have some massive boats in Melbourne harbour?

Cor - I loved that thank you! What an adventure. I've long dreamed of cruising through Central France via the waterways. Having only sailed on classic (ex) working boats, I well understand how modern plastic jobbies can so often turn up where they shouldn't! Teresa

Or Plastic Fantastic! I have two ambitions, Canal du Midi to the Mediterranean and eventually sail in the massive lakes on the River Shannon in Ireland. There were bits of Belgium that got close to what I expect to see in France! But that will be a few years off!

I would defiantly go back. The Dutch waterway are very well managed, but I felt very small bobbing around in the big boys wake!🤪

Ha! Amazing. I remember the town well. We went into the old bit and saw the little narrow canals. Gorgeous!

The avionics uses up the battery because it is locating you via phone towers. if you switch to Aeroplane mode it will still work fine and use a lot less battery. Also simply turn the iPad off when not actually looking at it.These days in outback Australia an ip[ad is all we use. and in most cases we do not have internet coverage. Simply using the GPS chip in the iPad. (Note it must be an iPad with cellular)

That thing that beat me is that the charging system can’t keep up with the demand. Same thing happens when I’m editing on the iPad. I forgive it’s limitations, I bought it in 2017! 😂😂😂
I will say one thing. When we were out there in the middle of the sea I did experiment with turning it off to conserve power, but when I turned it back on I was way off course!😂😂😂😂

Good luck Canice! I’m loving the diary of your adventure. I have an ambition to do a similar thing in a few years, but having grown up with narrowboats in the UK I’m keen to head in to Europe (if we still can..).

Thank you Tom! I have ambitions to go to the Canal Du Midi in France, but now after exploring the Dutch waters and I’m curious to explore more! Well worth it!

Well done. Bet it was hard work! I spent all day going up from Gloucester to Tewkesbury up stream on the river severn. Two cylinder lister on my narrowboat

As you know yourself, you have a great night sleep afterwards! I would love to go from London to Bristol and up the Severn! What an adventure! Weirdly the thing I missed about the UK waterways was doing the locks yourself!

@@canicebannon my nearest narrow canal is the Birmingham and Worcester canal. And locks, so miss them. We have manned swing bridges on my home canal the Gloucester and sharpness
