Welcome To the channel. Join me on my journey with my Dutch Barge De Vrouwe Linda. At over 100 years old it is in need of a full boat restoration. As a rolling restoration it has to function as a Tiny Home and needs to be Off Grid. What could go wrong?
It’s a Sailing Boat designed for Canal, River and Coastal Sailing. I have a keen interest in Nature and the Environment and the boat has to reflect this. It will need to be Solar Powered and the ultimate goal is to have Electric and Wind Power Propulsion only. So expect a mix of Old Crafts, Engineering and New Technologies. I also own and live on a Narrow Boat.

A little crazy here, I just got a chance to sit and enjoy your video. Love the cruising at night Canice. It was beautiful. The expression on your face when you passed the guy popping a wheelie was priceless. What is the Meridian (sp) line? Is that the new rail system I have heard a bit about? OMG 😱 You had the mast on your back 😮. The pump is more than a bit temperamental. Glad it worked though. I am relieved that the water around your Baby Blake was not from the tank 😅. What is happening to your glasses? Every week there seems to be new pieces of scrap metal and old Church lumber added to the frames? I am expecting something special for the new nose piece 😂. Oh, now that I see them from the side it looks very functional. Love the stove top! Can’t wait to see what your first meal will be. Have a good rest of the week. 😊🤗 Canice
You ended up mooring right next to my brother's house!
you dont need water at all in bio diesel to have bugs mits lives on the suger in the fuel
You generally do seem Stir-crazy. I am not saying that is bad or unexpected :)
Great video Candice! Very productive with toilet, water, oven and gas, but really think you need two gas bottles with a changeover valve, so if one runs out, you can change over to the other one, especially if it runs out when you are cooking a meal or late evening making a last coffee 👍
A well-deserved cup of coffee! Congratulations on all your expert hard work, Canice, Joe F
Dude, get your knots right -- and less of this drilling (well, maybe a bit for drainage.)
With friends like the Pirate, you will always feel safe on the open seas...
Yes, I reckon the ratchet straps are best here. And concur with JeffCambell1555 below.
Wow, at the end, the Pirate has the best idea. And if all required, I would ignore it or throw money at it :/ Congrates to you!
Functioning toilet, gas and an oven to cook food on. You're getting closer and closer to a live aboard Linda. I'm really glad for you Canice, but reminds myself how much hard work you've been through to get where you are now. It's an achievement! Have a great week.
@3:22 Did you do much henious acts of cuting the ropes? I would think the lot could have been done with ONE length containing many Alpine or Butterfly Knots and the occasional loop going back up to the deck level stanchions.
Doing a much more thorough job than ever I do!
Beautiful. My kids rescued a seagull in San Diego; he grew up with us and frequented our boat and many others, for years. ( It was a few days later and research, when I realised the Seagull's nest was on the beach and was probably interfered with, accidentally, by my kids.
@10:05 Top bodge, Canice. I like it!
Are ou doing real ventriloquism, as oppsed to camera, erm, trickery?
Ah, good sailing rope.
Green rhymes too.
I'm sure the Sea Captain would have said something partularly derogatory about this weeks successes. I'm glad he's in hiding 😅
I’m currently wresting with new editing software and it’s taking ages to learn it. But the result will be more Sea Captain cameo’s once I get my head around the basics again!🙄😂😂😂
You made your first ‘meal’ on the vrouwe Linda . Dutch (originally from Friesland) instant coffee. It was a bit hot but you were thirsty. Really appropriate 😀
Cooking with the Captain, maybe? Deliberately Douwe Egberts!🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
@@canicebannon I guess that when you were in Friesland you couldn’t find anything else in the local supermarket . One of their main factories is on the the Amsterdam Rhine canal near Utrecht. you took it to bring Linda to London. Remember the barge ‘strawinsky’ 😀.
@@kriskarpjee9657 Douwe Egberts is big in the UK and Ireland. In fact, Mullingar in Ireland where my family is from, Douwe Egberts had a tobacco factory there…. Very familiar with the company. The Amsterdam-Rhine canal! Where I learned the biggest danger is the wash from speed boats not the barges! Memories! 😂😂😂
health and safety: 1. was that originally designed as a propane storage locker? 2. if not, is it sealed perfectly inside? 3. does it have a vent to outside at the lowest point? 4. that rubber hose going through the bulkhead into the cabin, is it sealed around the copper tube? I say these things because I have a top-hat furnace that weighs maybe 200lbs and I can make it jump into the air by allowing just a few seconds of gas to fill it before I touch it off - by accident if its cold. So, say you are sitting on your unvented gas locker smoking a pipe and you find you need a ladder to get out of the tree you are in, what will you do?
Yes, yes, yes and yes…. The gas man is also the boat safety examiner. All good! 😀
@@canicebannon TG, nice video BTW.

So emotive!!! Much got done and the camera segments tied the story all together. You are a Master of the craft.. well... crafts!! Two water crafts, one computer, one videography, one continuity, one hot coffee drinker. Loved it all Canice!!
Ouch! (yet I laughed because of your comedic prowess, not because I'm a cruel good-for-nothing... or nothing).

Hi Canice, I don’t often post comments on CZcams but as I have been enjoying your videos for quite a while, I feel it is only fair to tell you how much I appreciate your content and especially your sense of humour which aligns very well with mine! My canal boat experience is limited to punting on the Cam once many years ago but I do own a 40 ft Clipper trawler here in Australia and have experienced many of your challenges over the years which makes yours even funnier! Keep up the great work! Cheers Julian 😀
That was an interesting video plenty of content well done on getting gas 😊
Thank you Kevin. A mile stone has been achieved!
Excellent Canice, thank you. Was that three wins in one video? possibly a record?
I know, right!😂
I am happy that you are back again. Beautiful video by the way!
Thank you! Life has been getting in the way! 🙄😂
I love your kettle.
I bought that for Jorja ten years ago, but I swapped it out for a whistling kettle! I wish I could make it whistle. I believe it may have in the past. 😀
And know I know why its cold a water tapp!
You’ll have to explain it to me because I don’t know….🤔😂
@@canicebannon You tapped the pump to get tap water! My qurqy humor, and spelling error maybe!
@@larsskogberg7432 hahahahaha! That’s it! Yay!🤣
Water and gas--major steps in the evolution of the living space. The Captain won't understand all that witchcraft!
I was up at 2am editing this and then accidentally messed up the release time. I was so tired. I was thinking of you when I realised the video was not public hours later! The gas oven is just another potentially lethal weapon at his disposal!😂😂😂
Hi Canice, was "scrap" diagnosed purely by visual inspection? If so I'm impressed because that's a skill I haven't developed with (I assume) coaxial starter motors in 50+ years!
I became aware that there might be the possibility that the shop in question wanted me to buy the new one and leave the old one behind, as it’s “scrap”. I took it with me to deny the shop from refurnish it a selling it on. Call me suspicious. 🤨
@@canicebannon A strip down and a clean up 'might' be all that is required. Certainly worth hanging onto until time presents an opportunity to get the rubber mallet out.

Good morning Canice.
Good morning Weerwolfproductions.

Hi David. Thank you for watching the back catalogue!😂
Talk about patience
Tell me about it!
Of course, rather than ratchet-straps, you should be buying and or collecting great lengths of rope -- ideally never cut/shortened, and preferably from sailboats, and learning wonderful knots, etc. I.e. truckers-hitches to strap down the tarpaulin on the hatches.
And, as I am oft to say; "I have never met a stupid Irishman -- always a good laugh."
Yes, this is quite true…. But where to store all this rope! 😂
@@canicebannon Are my replys going missing, or you have to vet them first?

That was so funny!!! I have an idea. Maybe you could turn the Window? To open it to the outside? I don’t know but I think, that this wouldn’t be so bad to handle. Our little Window in the shit hole ist mostly open. Excuse my English. I am from Ostfriesland 😉
By the way, you can comment in Dutch! If it’s easier…. Google provides a translation. My big concern is having enough ventilation in the shower room because none of the windows open or can be opened all day…. The vent will be the next task…😀
Ps Englischer Name mit englischem Vorbesitzer known as Richard from London. We went on in English . Ich freue mich schon auf deine nächste Folge. ⛴️
Hoss, you got yourself a mighty fine-looking porthole there - 😜 I love it! Your Dutch barge alchemy remains as creative as that of a Shakespearean actor in a horror film, and I understand that cantrip is also contained in the Wizard of the Lindon Waterways’ spellbook! Cheerio!
Thank you Michael! I’m thinking Peter Cushing!😂😂😂🤣
Canice, will you not start a feckin Patreon so we could all give you a helpin hand? I can't be the only feckin viewer who would be happy to see things moving a bit feckin faster for you and all of us. Lovely feckin work on the port hole by the way. ❤
That’s easy to answer. Patreon is simply more work… at the moment time is my biggest problem…. Barely able to find time to edit…. However, I really appreciate the feckin’ offer. 😂😂🤣
Hi Canice. The absolutely last thing that you need is some smart arse suggesting that you tackle the problem of porthole surrounds in a different manner but guess what? I am going to respectfully do that. Not knocking all your hard work but a suggestion on how to surround your portholes (in a manner that would stop water from the shower being able to lodge somewhere and cause you future problems would be to create a dished concave surround out of timber that could be completely sealed and not have all those hard won notches that could leak. You are now a dam hand either the router and could create this surround to suit. I will try attaching an image of what I did to stop this issue. If it doesn’t work and you would like to see a possible solution, please message me and I could email an image to you. I’m stressing that I’m not being a smart arse - only trying to help. Keep up the good work. Mark K. Barge M V Sarah.
Send me an email of what you’re talking about when you have a chance. dutchbargelinda@gmail.com This will be useful for the others… The reason I chose this route was because of the condensation build up on the porthole cover and I wanted as much insulation, for the same reason, in the shower room…
Maak het vierkant om de patrijspoort dat zie je wel meer!

Oh that porthole frame got me laugthing good, but looks very nice and clean in the end. Looking back at it you could have made two rings with different heights. Do you have a plan with what you will cover the wood? Tiles? special paint?
The whole thing will sealed and “tanked” and then copper sheet all over….
Should have called this one “Trial and Error”!😂
