In this video, Spring is in the air and I move Linda to Limehouse. I make the framing for the gunwale and pad it out with insulation. Give it a nice covering of calico.
I am just catching up. Lots going on here. Love the wooden ceiling from the previous video. It looks fantastic, and just the right amount of panels. Great job Canice. So glad your bow didn’t get caught and have you flipped over 😱. Inside is looking great. You are certainly doing a lot of intricate work and Lynda and treating her with the respect she deserves. Hope all is well and your spring has arrived and stayed there. We had it for two weeks and today….snow ❄️ ⛄️ 😢. 😊🤗 Kathy
good on you Canice, your approach and philosophy is something the modern western world really really needs to, collectively, rediscover and reconnect with... self-reliance, ingenuity, frugal to a fault, re-use, reduce waste, recycle, constant learning, creating your own build environment. You are showing through action, and in so many ways, the counter narrative to the "single-use, throw-away, hyper-consumerism, money-culture" challenges within todays society. " The Canice Counter to Consumer Culture" needs to be developed into a handbook... just sayin'
This is spot on! There is also a creativity to finding old stuff and reusing it in an appropriate manner. The boat is 114years old, and if I can find stuff the same age to use on the inside I will. It’s out there to be found!😀
Morning Canice. My Sunday morning is complete - a Canice vlog and a cuppa. This week I came across an old video (eight years ago I think) of a tour that you gave of the Globe theatre. Entertaining as ever. Keep up the good work on all fronts. Mark K Barge M V Sarah.
I was told by a friend that I shouldn’t bother with the curves, that it would be easier to have a straight 45 degree angle. No I said. I’ll spend hours making the curve!😂😂😂😂
Yes! Love the knees. All that needs to finish it is tongue and groove small enough to naturally curve with the shape described by the knees. You could get a nice hammer-beam effect by making decorative corbels where the upper cabin walls meet the roof. Looking down the cabin, the shape that would suggest would be like a Tudor arch--curved inside corners pointing to an angular peak. Nice.
I’m also hoping to make a bit of panelling and combine that with the “tongue and groove. I’m at early stages of thinking about how I would accomplish this…. I may still change my mind and go for tongue a groove for the whole lot….
Canice, loved latest video update. Great to see your expertise in fitting out your barge. Lovely views of Spring in Limehouse. Keep up the good work, Joe F
Good morning Canice. The expression, ‘foreshadowing’ with the lock, fills us with dread but a text book recovery!! We have Calico on order, she has better knees than us😂, transforming fast now. As Sunday, an omnibus edition would be great as always over too quickly!! All the best sailor, Joe & Georgie ⚓️🌹
Calico is cheap and I’m using it just to keep the insulation in. Anything I’m doing should be taken with a pinch of salt. Some are saying I should use vapour barrier…. Etc. They may be right….😂😂😂
I do think you'll finish renovating Linda and making her your home, long before 2075. One year ago, you could tell us and explain how you were planning to do the renovation and why you had chosen to it in that way. Now we see the progress with our own eyes, and in that perspective you have made quantum leaps. She will become a stunning home! Have a great week!
Thank you so much! The thing I may not have mentioned is that I want it to look like it’s 114 years old on the inside too! Which means finding the appropriate stuff at the right price! That will also take time…..😀
@@canicebannonBut as long as there is wood and plywood, you can make old school, framed panelling with a router, templates and a work bench. You can even use soft wood like pine, and stain it to look like oak or mahogany. Whatever you choose, -the renovation voyage with Linda will be a joy to follow.
@@canicebannonIt's still craftmanship whether you choose oak or pine.. The pine is much lighter than hardwood though, and requires less diesel running the boat. If you were to keep her as she was 114 years ago, you would live in a cargoroom, no head, no gally, no bed, no salon. 🤣
Please consider some colour inside. I spent some months in a wooden cabin. The constant wood drained me. I also had the pleasure of knowing a diver in the North Sea. I asked him (expecting a manly crude answer) what was the worse thing spending a month at a time under high pressure. His unequivocal reply. Colour!
I may have to ‘fake’ some of the walls with plywood and they will be painted. I’m aware of the sauna effect and I’ve seen lovely paint jobs on the interiors of boats that enhance the wood. There will be some colour…. Farrow and Ball comes to mind…..😂
Hello. Glad to have finally cought up to date with the channel. It popped up as a recommendation and in the video you were seeing if you could fit under the low bridges. Loved it, came to your channel and have consumed many a bottle of red wine by the fire after work absolutely loved watching the progress. The Sound of the engine is bliss. Keep up the good work 🍷🍷
Hi Nina! Your plants are still growing on my roof! Especially the begonia! I would love to get out west again but I need to stay a bit local so I can get things done quicker. But I will be back!
Good Spring Morning! Nice neighbourhood you moved to. A lot of work done! Excellent. The only thing I am a little worried about is the underside of the side decks. I noticed that almost all the condensation formed on the horizontal parts of the steel. So it is wise to adhere some insulation material like armaflex to the undersides. But now you have greased it already...that makes it difficult. But check regular if there are big droplets of condensation forming under the side decks.
I did look into armaflex and it’s quite expensive. I understand the issue. But there is a reason why I’m going out of my way to ensure disassembling the interior will be super easy. (you only need to undo the nuts and battens fall off)…. The decks need to be replaced. I’ve welded loads of patches all over them and it has ensured it’s watertight for the moment. But they will need to be replaced.and when that happens the interior has to come out. I’ll be a millionaire by then and won’t be a problem!😂😂😂😂
I only know the Taco version of Puttin' on the Ritz before today. Earworm: engaged. Nice progress. Also: Either you've grown really tall in a couple of months, or the forward end of the cabin is consideably ower than the original cabin. It looked like you're trying really hard not to hit your head.
It is above head height for me, but I have sheets of Plywood stored on the floor and that’s losing my headroom. It’s progressively lower at the front that at the back of that run. However, the main cabin is 8 tall!😀
Great progress. Very impressive. Love a cruise too. BTW do you know why your 'wimpel' at the top of the mast is blue, rather than red? Traditionally working boats tend to have blue ones and leisure craft/flatbottomed yachts, red. You may already know that...
The limehous lock keeper seemed to think he knew how to moorup yycht yacht in his lock better thamn me😅 i hve been in more dutch luisvthn he has had hot dinners danku well😂

Watched again a video from a year ago, mostly about moving things. It's great to see how far you have progressed since then.
Nice one Canice your wood pile is gradually disappearing giving you more space to work Linda's looking great 😊😊
I’m really making inroads into the pile now. I’ll soon start to run out of wood!😂😂
A nice padded cell! Great work, looks nice! great video editing as well!
Putting on the Ritz and Limehouse adventure. Nothing finer. Thank you for this Canice.
CZcams just published ‘putting on the ritz’ in the music library. I was very pleased. 😂😂
Great work Canice. It's going to be a lovely home. 👍
Thank you Will! I hope so!😀

Oh dear! There are probably many videos of me in the Globe Theatre hidden all over the internet!!😂😂😂
I love the roof pannelling , it resembles the original cargo planks. Well done
Deck hef is the name u should use👍
It’s a complete accident that I had enough to finish the run. It looks like it’s deliberately made for Linda!😂😂😂
Love the curves. Very much so.. Also the flower's of spring.. We are in fourth winter here. Thanks Canice.

I would love that! In the very aft cabin there are two carved heads doing the very same job!

The carpenter who made the mast made the ‘wimpel’. I guess he wanted to acknowledge its working boat past…
