I've been collecting points since the Wii. They've had this rewards system for a really long time. I remember getting a 3 poster set from the Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword release back in 2011, still sealed lol
czcams.com/video/dnxzjdYNqaI/video.html đ± coffee
I have a Zelda 3DS multi cart case from Club Nintendo. I still use it
The issue is don't the points expire? I read that they expire after a year
Damn lucky
Now u tell us! đ€Ł
I didn't know that the points were not common knowledge. I've done all of the little missions to get the silver points. I think the thing that annoys me the most though is that the silver and gold points have expiration dates and they are always short so you need to use them before they expire so they aren't as nice/useful as they could be
I think 6 months to a year is pretty reasonable. Now that I have a switch my gold coins never have a chance to expire but my platinum points were always in danger. Now with the icons at least they won't expire.
I didn't know they expire and lost over half of my platinum points
It is common knowledge. Woody is below common knowledge.
@@tinahoefs1455 as someone who doesn't buy things very often and likes to save up, it kind of bums me out that I can't save up my gold points for future use. I have to use em or lose em asap.
What?! They expire?!
For those who don't know there's also daily and maybe weekly missions you can complete on the switch that the Nintendo switch online app (I think) has to earn platinum points. They have different missions for each game you own if I remember correctly so the more games you have the more opportunity you have to gain points.
Lol just bought stardew valley today!!!
that means waiting more months just for a 7 day free trial of nintendo switch online, WHY DOES NSO EXIST
@@Simurated honestly for an online service it's really not that expensive compared to PlayStation and Xbox that are literally the same price for 1-2 months that Nintendo charged for a year of online service. Plus it's possible to get it free essentially after buying enough games thanks to the gold coins that are automatically obtained from online purchases and can be claimed manually from physical purchases... There's also the rewards that can be earned from the silver coins I already mentioned in the original comment, but I'm not even sure Nintendo online subscription is even required to earn them.
Where do you find them?
@@lcxiicx_5319 the gold coins? When you're at the payment method page while checking out there should be a link that says "use points for a discount" on top of the payment method... Pretty sure Wood showed how to claim the gold coins for the physical games purchased, but just to give a second explanation insert the cart into the console, open up the game menu on the home page (press the plus button while the game is highlighted), scroll down to the "my Nintendo rewards" section, and then press the button that says it's for redeeming gold points for the game.
I've been doing it since I got my first Switch at least a few years back. Although I don't have nearly as many physical games as you have... you probably earned more with one year's worth of games than I have my entire time. Still, you have my sympathy.
I actually knew about this because when I got my switch as a birthday present in 2020 I also got a used copy of Mario Kart with it, and I saw the "Options" icon on the home menu and took a look because I wanted to absorb as much of this new gaming experience as I could. Saw it there in that menu
Pretty much same here. I just don't see how someone would NOT manage to at least ACCIDENTALLY stumble upon it quite early.
@@CaptainSnowflake only happened to me once but I agree. đ
Right! Do you people not dig into your tech at all? Maybe it was because I've always been poor but when I get my hands on something new I'm looking through every inch of the device I can for unique features (which is how I found out about the program).
@@Solaceon that! I cannot fathom how ppl can own smth but don't explore it. Some people don't even know that they can change button mappings independently from games within the system settings.
An achievement system is definitely something Nintendo is missing would make playing games so much more grindy
true
yeah, it does feel like they went with this system instead to make it less obvious and hoping it would make them more money ? who knows if it helped ? on one hand, many people have not used their gold points, on the other hand, without an obvious reward system, people now have the idea that nintendo is greedy and games are expensive which have lead to people getting less games on the nintendo.
i personally believe nintendo have missed out on a lot of customers and just sales in general by not having an easy to understand and rewarding system.

Important things: Only from a year from retail release, BUT lots of smaller print games will often have region coding from other regions. I know it's region free but that's still coded. I have a ton of games that either said I couldn't redeem in my region OR I couldn't redeem "yet" which ends up never at all.
Retail release only? Does that mean if I got a game released quite some years ago, I won't be able to get it?
@@jierenzheng7670Yup. 1 year in most of the world, 2 years in the EU.
I.e. if you brought a new physical copy of PokĂ©mon Shield you wouldnât be able to redeem the points because the game was released four years ago.
If you brought a physical copy for pokĂ©mon Scarlet you would be able to redeem gold points until 18th Nov 2023, or 18th Nov 2024 if youâre in the EU
Note: only applicable for new copies, if you buy second hand youâll only be able to redeem gold points if the previous person who owned it didnât redeem them as itâs tied to the cartridge, not the console.
note 2: Only works for cartridges. If you had a digital download that came in a case you canât redeem that.
â@@jierenzheng7670Exactly. It's a ripoff!
I remember i found this out when i work at gamestop back when the switch came out. I highly recommend people do it for any new games they buy and check the pre-owned ones you buy as well. It's always fun seeing people discover this fun little program Nintendo has. Thanks for sharing the info with others who weren't aware on what they were missing out on
Then why didn't you tell any of us!? Huh!? Hahah đ
I actually knew about this because when I first got my switch "about a year ago" my friend who had a switch since launch day told me about it, the catch is if you buy an old copy of the game, even if it's brand new the gold coins have already expired which has happened to me a couple of times when I bought them from Amazon. I honestly don't understand why they expire after a year, seems like a cheap way to make sure people can't get the points fairly even if the points were never redeemed.
Also another thing I hate is how the silver points expire, I'm not sure about the gold but I lost 800 points in a single day because there was just nothing I could use them on, and then when there is, I have to pay for shipping which is actually way more expensive then it should be.
Yea I think the year expiration thing is lame. It should only not count if someone's already turned in the coins.

I think that achievement for rewards thing was supposed to be implemented into Xbox originally (for avatars & wallpaper and more), but it turns out achievements by themselves made people play them anyway, so there wasn't a need to reward people.
Actually, you the achievements have some art in the achievement tab. And you can get to have them as a wallpaper for your home screen. It's pretty cool
lol have you ever seen that one weird dude online who likes breakdancing and was obsessed with "cheevos" (achievements) and having the highest xbox gamer score? like.. so obsessed that it was his pickup line. I thought everyone knew about these, I did most of them like a year ago, and the rewards points I've known since I got my switch. You can get points from the thing they added where you can make custom profile icons on your switch
I've been doing this for ages, it's cool to get the posters and keyrings and other stuff.
When those posters where announced I did exactly what you did to get them and it was completely worth it. Only had to pay 8 bucks shipping

Wow! Thanks for the great info! One question. Can you redeem the Nintendo products with Platinum points and have it ship internationally?
This is what happens when you explore menus lmao. I've had my switch for 3 days, and I own 0 physical copies of games and I still know about this because I clicked through all the menus. First thing I do when I get a new piece of tech is explore every corner of every menu and everyone should do the same lmao
omg this brings back memories. Before My Nintendo they had Club Nintendo where they used to include a piece of paper in a number of their games with a code to redeem for points and I think eventually you could also get points with digital purchases. My favorite thing I got from Club Nintendo were the Zelda posters for Twilight Princess, Phantom Hourglass, and a poster of the different links from 1987 to 2007
Wood, another thing that you seemed to have missed as well that saves you money since you buy alot of digital titles is to change your zipcode to one in a state that doesnt charge sales tax like a city in oregon for example then you wont be charged for sales tax on your digital titles. You could have saved maybe hundreds of dollars
Probably can't encourage that because I'm pretty sure that's literal tax fraud

While redeeming those gold coins for digital games is nice it's only 60 coins (or $0.60) per $60 game. It pales in comparison to the points you used to get from 3DS redeeming codes in the box.
Yep, wow, i've been doing the gold points redeem on purchase since release in 2017 :)
Ya don't really start thinking bout what your gonna buy, you just keep stacking the gold points up, once a week on fridays when i check the sales, if theres the usual $90 game at 90% off ($9) then ill check if i can buy with gold points :)

Also, I wasn't too sure about the Metroid poster but when you opened it at the end, I wholeheartedly agree that it is awesome! I want it too!
Help me please! Is it possible to play games such as Doom 1 or 2 Star Wars dark Forces or one of the hexen games on the NN3dsXL in 3D?
I have played many of the arcade shooters and racers in 3d on the 3ds and they prove really cool! Especially with shroomsđ
