That’s a terrible coincidence for the child and the family to have to go through at a baseball game, and I certainly hope anyone injured in this was okay. But this is exactly why I love baseball. Such a display of sportsmanship to delay a game while, 1. the fan was made sure to be okay and 2. while the batter was obviously shaken after knowing he was the one that hit the ball. The players show so much regard to the fans and I love it.

Coincidence? I think you've got the wrong word there.
@@MasonBryant Coincidence: 2 or more events or incidents occurring at the same time. The girl's attendance and location in the stands and the time and direction of the foul ball. It seems to be a fair word choice. If you mean an undesigned, providentially unplanned coincidence, you may have a point.
It’s pretty terrible. The kid suffered a permanent brain injury. Just a tragic and sad accident.
2016, game 7 of the world series, Almora pinch ran in the top of the 10th inning with utmost professionalism, being sure to tag up at first immediately when Kris Bryant hit a ball to deep center field. He managed to get to 2nd off that hit because of his insight and wherewithal, and was instrumental in helping the Cubs secure their championship when he scored 1 of the 2 runs they needed to hold off the Indians that night.

My guess would be so those "spectacular" foul ball catches can happen and therefore the inning be almost over, or over
It's already pretty far back, what next you want it in the outfield also
Baseball is a spectator sport. You need to be heads up all the time. Netting eliminates the possibility for certain catches/ plays. At most I could see having an age restriction for seats in hard hit foul ball territory.

Permanent brain injury according to family attorney...I want to throw up. Such an awful situation.
@@swallowme535a law suit what else
Well since a lawyer is involved of course it’s a “permanent” problem. Weather or not that is accurate and not just a way to bump up the payout is a different story. I’m not saying people are awful for suing of course medical bills are expensive but now a days everything is a cash grab and people will inflate injury’s to get more money. It may be surprising but brains do heal especially if she was as young as they said. My brother had a stroke as a infant and they said he would never walk and would be dead by 3 years. He is 46 years old and only after he was forced to get the Covid shots (disabled people were not given a choice) he is only now wheelchair bound. I personally had some bad head injuries due to abusive relationships and sports and they said I would have permanent problems but as of 7 years after my last head injury my symptoms have cleared up completely and my brain actually healed and I’m older than dirt. So you never know what is actually permanent or not.
@@RyanSmith6644most sporting event tickets have waivers against injuries. You choose seats at your own peril. The catcher turning away added to the whole situation. Damn!
Yup. Most people here missed his reaction. Straight turning his head at the moment of impact.
To those talking about paying attention, the ball is traveling around 150 feet a second so it got into the stands in about a 1.5 seconds. A ball hit straight at you at that level is going to be hard to pick up with the eye, especially for a non-athlete. While there are people who could react to that there are many more who wouldn't be able to even if they were paying full attention. It took the death of a child to get full netting behind the goal in the NHL, and it took too many injuries in the stands to finally get MLB to fully extend their netting.
Apparently the little girl suffered a skull fracture and has had seizures ever since. Damn. Sorry Al. Wasn’t your fault brother. Hope she continues to improve.

I remember a line drive during batting practice hitting about 20 seats from me then bouncing at least 100 feet up off the empty (Thank God) chair and landing over a 100 feet away! Also, Vida Blue, one of my all time favorites give me his autograph during warm ups🙂! Sadly he got cut for using coke about Two weeks later. Say anything you want, he was the only one I saw all day who signed anything for anybody.
Side note, if you are afraid of heights, like me, NEVER get an upper deck ticket! In 85 for my graduation our class went to St. Louis to see a game. Our sets were TEN rows from the top of the stadium, right behind home plate. Birds were flying below me! The only good part was you got a great view of everything, including the city skyline, and everything hit looked like it was going to leave the earth. One time, somebody hit one that a swear I thought would end up a mile away. It was a pop out to the shortstop.

How hard is it for the MLB to make it mandatory that netting is required on all foul line seating. Not just to a certain point.
Do you know how many kids go to the ballpark with their gloves hoping to catch a foul ball? This is absolutely a tragedy. But I dont think that is the answer. I mean how many times has a person left a ball game with a permanent brain injury?
Netting should be 100% required in foul ball seating. There's enough pop fly balls to try and catch. Nobody should ever have to worry about a 100+ mph line drive ball screaming directly toward them with almost zero chance to avoid or protect themselves. A player only has so much control over where the ball goes. It's up to the stadium to properly protect the spectators.
Man. Almoras and catchers reaction says it all. God help the child.
Commentators: “How unfortunate 😢 Let’s get an instant-replay 😁”
That poor kid and man. His ❤️ broke. Damn
even the catcher was in deep sorrow.
Yeah the catcher had the same reaction, he hurt when he saw where the ball went.
It’s a shows he’s a good person but he shouldn’t have to worry about that kind of thing parents sitting that close have to be aware of this kind of thing
Damn, i can literally feel his pain. Respect.
Its basically a miniature cannonball at that point.
My God. My heart hurts for him and her. I know she's still suffering from it to this day.
God bless Mr. Almora. He’s got a heart of gold.
The little girl's hospital bill was still cheaper than her ballpark hot dog and soda.
Wasn't his fault. Batter has little control over where the ball goes. I'm glad MLB has started putting netting in those parts of the field.
Or maybe don’t bring clueless children into places where it could be dangerous.
@@huddahhuddah3315 I can get behind that too.
@@shaunmcdaniel780 It's on the parents, really.
Their kid is young, reckless, "little explorers" as Jean Piaget would say.
They should know not to bring their kids into even a slightly dangerous environment.
And it spoils the fun for the responsible adults because we can catch the foul ball even if it's a zinger like that one. Now there are nets stopping us from having fun and catching souvenirs. And it's not even our fault.
@@huddahhuddah3315 Yup. Parent probably wasn’t paying attention. Probably on the phone or something and by the time they heard “ball” it was too late.
What a scary situation. I’m glad I’m not seeing too many negative comments about him having a very human reaction to this situation. The girl is ok, thankfully.
Zbleubleu OKeyDokey not she’s not she’s permanently Brain damaged remains subject to seizures and is on medication and will be, perhaps, for the rest of her life
Just read an article stating that the girl is suffering permanent brain damage similar to a stroke and must take anti-seizure medicine for possibly her entire life. Prayers to her and her family ❤️
That really sucks but the parents could have prevented this, making batters feel like shit 😢
Ugh that’s heartbreaking to watch. Anybody with a heart would have reacted the same way.
