    42:25 "The more you ask the more you are likely to get" This is so true... I tried to move forward with a ask questions mentality, to the point where the Director coined me as the person that made great questions, it was such as a booster to my personal brand early on. And to this day I am still seeing as a person that brings thought provoking questions, and they are not forced at all, all you need is curiosity and if you bring that up work becomes entertaining.

      unless you have very insecure management, promoted on the peter principle and can't stand inquiries. See anyone with logic or the think outside the box as a threat.

    As an introvert, that works remote gigs, going thru online staffing agencies doing mostly do contract/temp work as there just aren't opportunities here after covid wiped my small town out. Is there a better route? Entirely TRUE recruiters/HR want the drama applicants on interviews- I contend they con their way in. Good story tellers, good people, just not so keen on doing much at the job. If you are more reserved but deliver a quieter presentation, mostly extroverts will be the pick. My degree is Human Behavior. I test out as that 1% that aren't LIKE y'all in how we conduct our lives. I can be a top performer, reliable, compliant, friendly. I notice if our group gets hired, we are the first to get axed or not asked to continue. Baffling, cuz we as a group are the ones that SHOULD be valued for our contributions, hitting quotas or deadlines, being ultra professional, just not flashy. I have gotten performance bonuses, incentives, great reviews from clients, but let go in favor of nonproducers. Baffling and utterly frustrating.

    Hi Andy, I had an unfortunate outcome with an initial phone screen with a recruiter who asked me what my salary expectations were and I tried my best not to give an answer but the recruiter said, what would I need to make a move and I felt pressured so I gave a figure that was higher than the pay range. The range was something like 80-110k and I said, I would need $120k. Just for context, I live in a pay transparency state. The lesson I learned from that was just give the higher end of the pay range that is posted so you can stay in the interview process or else there's no recovery from that. Then, I saw another role with the same company and when I tried to apply for the 2nd role, I was denied because the recruiter remembered what my salary requirement was for the previous role I applied to and I guess just figured that there was no point in giving me a chance for consideration. There's so much psychology involved with these job searches that it's truly unreal. Thx

    Andy, I saw a report recently that showed that only 10% of job offers made are done so at 4th round of interview or later -that seems incredible to me, and has totally changed my attitude to how many hoops I am willing to jump through during an interview process - if you are prepared to allocate MORE of your time and energy chasing 10% of the job market then that reeks of desperation and lack of respect for yourself. Accordingly, I have no problem being upfront during screening calls and plainly tell them I'm not willing to engage in any process that has more than 3 rounds as the statistical odds will firmly be against me. Maybe you could unpack some of that in a future episode..

    • @andylacivita
      @andylacivita  Před 5 měsíci

      Interesting piece of information. I’m not sure where you saw that, but in my experience, there is no set number of rounds. The problem with publishing information like this data is that if I aggregated information from only very small companies, the average would’ve been two rounds. So, this is my way of saying don’t pay any attention to information like this. It does you absolutely no good. I would tell you simply to focus your energy and organizations that you feel are worthy of your time. The rest will take care of itself.

    Do you have any videos aimed specifically at tech resumes? I know you say resist the urge to list all your activities, but if you don't do that you're not going to be able to demonstrate you have that big laundry list of technical skills from the JD. It can be really challenging to cram all that in, highlight the actual impact, and still keep it under 2 pages to respect Andy's time.

    • @andylacivita
      @andylacivita  Před 6 měsíci

      All my resume videos are for tech or any other kind of resume. You can have a skills section in your resume if you'd like. I review tech resumes daily. They do not need to be longer that 2 pages.
