Real world EV review: Peugeot e2008 vs Vauxhall Corsa-e vs Citroen E-C4

- Long term EV group test between the Peugeot e2008, Vauxhall Corsa-e and Citroen E-C4. They share drivetrains and batteries, but they are different beasts. This is our real world long term review of life with a Vauxhall Corsa-e (the Mokka-e mini SUV was not available at this time for longer than a week), the Peugeot e-2008 and Citroen's E-C4 electric cars.
Since January 2021 Jonny has been driving these three offerings by motor giant Stellantis (the new umbrella title for former FCA and PSA groups Citroen, Vauxhall, Fiat, Peugeot, Dodge, DS, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Opel - and a few besides)The smaller sized family EV market is booming at the moment, and not before time.
Thanks for stopping by the Late Brake Show.
Electric cars under £35,000 will keep increasing in numbers as government legislation, global warming awareness and company car taxes favour the zero tailpipe vehicle. As an early adopter of EV road and race cars, Jonny was keen to see what these cars might be like to live with beyond the usual few days or week. Spoiler alert - the Citroen is the most comfy, Corsa the quickest and the Peugeot has the biggest boot. See below for the trim levels of each car and respective pricing.

Luton intolerant 😂
Hilarious b🤣
Too true though, not really liked driving a Luton product since the Omega.
The best comment I've ever heard about Vauxhall!
It’s a Peugeot.
Loved my Vauxhall Astra from 1983, but I think it was a German built Opel.
What a colossal quantity of work in long terming and testing 3 cars for 1 video. Most CZcamsrs seem to spend about 20 mins on testing the car, this is another league.
Bjorn Nyland is even better
they're not cars
@@V8_screw_electric_cars why?
You know it’s gonna be a good episode when Jonny’s got his notebook
haha exactly, sit up and pay attention, Johnny's got the notebook out
😂
I have this new Citroën C4 and must say that I love it! Wonderful car, with lots of tech, amazing design and “Rolls Royce” comfort!! One more vote to the Citroën C4! Recommended!
Yeah the C4 is winning currently all reviews.. really really good car
Just about the best car presenter - not just CZcams either. The 'real world' detail is excellent and enables people to make a more informed decision or opinion. I don't have a young family to consider, but even so, I found this presentation super informative and beneficial.
There's a world outside of CZcams? I haven't heard of it
The ride quality of the e-C4 appeals to me. I am so fed up with hard riding and crashing suspensions - yes Germany, I'm talking to you!
Jonny, your best new car review on this channel in my opinion, lovely long format, amusing and engaging.
So much respect for the MONTHS of experience and work that went into these reviews, by fighting the urge to churn out the content ASAP you delivered your viewers a much better video, bravo Jonny!
Excellent! On the clock Monday, seems like the ideal time to watch a 40 minute video on 3 cars we'll never get on this side of things
ISWYDT...
Speaking of square steering wheels, think we need an Allegro update soon 🔲 😄
Blue trim on the Citroen looks like you forgot to peel off the protective film
I know what you mean!
Yeah, thought so too. It is possible to choose different color packs though, amongst other a black one.
its a free option to deselect the blue bits around and inside the car
More of Brian in future episodes please.
Iron lion Brian
I've thought for a long time that Jonny is is the best in the business at proper, old school, car reviews and this video further confirms that.
I have an ëc4 june and I get around 300km of autonomy just using as much as I can the regen braking. I live in Spain so the temps are around 20-30º. The car is the most confortable car I have ever driven so I'm really happy with it
I think I would go Citroën. I liked the serious and calm presentation. Fits the video format.
Amazing piece of work in pulling this video together. Thank you to Johnny and team
We're in the process of finding a new electric car at the moment and I have been reading online and watching a lot of videos, and I have to say this channel is by far the best on CZcams. The presenter has a eye for detail and focuses on real world stuff, not just how fast it goes round a track or how fast it goes from 0 to 100 km/t.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
Unlike other youtuber car reviewers, Jonny does not obstruct his videos with links to his other reviews. This is indeed a great characteristic of a skilled and experienced car reviewer. This video is brilliant. Informative, genuine, accurate and unbiased. Keep up the excellent work and all the best! Thank you.
This content is such high quality. Love a good Johnny with his notebook episode. Thank you
That C4-E is very well thought out, good job Citroen.
Thanks for another entertaining and informative video Jonny and team. Love how you put so much information into the description. This is why I’m so happy to support via Patreon.
Really want to see a review of a family car with actual child seats in place.
I've driven a few Peugeot Partner vans with the toy steering wheel and actually learned to really like it. Great for ultra fast cul-de-sac escapes. Preferred it to the Berlingo and Combo which are otherwise identical.
I’ve been Living with a Vauxhall Corsa e since March, and can confirm all of what Jonny has said in this video, oh and summer real range is about 180 miles.
The badge definitely has a stigma about it, and my keys are always left in the bowl on the weekly wife swaps….I wonder if the Opel badge would fair better as a brand in the uk?
I honestly think Opel badge might add kudos Lew. Thanks for sharing your real world ownership experience. 👍🏼
Best selling car in the UK....some stigma!
@@TheLateBrakeShow Only if they improved the cars or you'd just be transferring a duff reputation t another brand, like when Daewoo became Chevrolet.
A year in to owning a Corsa-e and can confirm Jonny is bang on with his 8 week review, the positives and negatives. Although it may not be the most efficient ev (it isn't), I have no regrets. It fits my use case perfectly (70 miles a day including motorway) and the better cars were beyond my budget (the Corsa itself was a stretch as it was). The car still puts a smile on my face every day I drive it. Not bad for a first step into the ev world for Vauxhall / Opel and a sign that the future can only get better as manufacturers get to grips with the new technology. Now the only thing I wonder about is how many years will the battery remain in good nick - only time will tell.
Too many badge snobs these days. VX are a different animal than they were 20 years ago. Cars are well built, lot's of kit, reliable and good value - the new Astra looks awesome.
What a fantastic in depth, interesting and enjoyable review! If you were seriously considering buying one of these 3 then this is the video you need! Outstanding as always Jonny! 😁👍
What a brilliant 'back to back' review! More like this please.
Congrats on a nice overall review after some ‘real’ time with these cars. Entertaining, informative and interesting. Look forward to the Korean version
Really Fun Segment!!! the *EV-Life of Brian* Cracking splendid. Thanks JS.
The best kind of EV is a subtle EV. None of that ID, EQ, i, e-tron rubbish that's just confusing and unnecessary. Just keeping it simple with existing model names is the best approach IMO.
It's good that e have choice now! I for one love the look of the ID3 newer "Golf" and fresh. But these cars are also good looking. It's fun to see so many electric cars that it is difficult to choose.
@@martijnvangammeren1868 I love electric cars. Just hate the names.
Classic Jonny. Concise, informative, in-depth review on 3 practical electric cars.
Cheers Howard ✊🏽
The most reassuring car reviewer in the world right now, so thorough. Thanks JS.
Great video Jonny....I do always love Citroen quirkiness!
Interesting to see that they come up with three very different cars from the same base. Thank you for your work, well done
Well that was one of the most informative videos I've watched regarding real world information about EV's, no messing all the facts you really need. If you were seriously thinking of buying any of these three vehicles then this is the video to watch. Excellent work Jonny, and not a glo stick or reversed cap in sight!!
Probably the best car reviews I have seen on CZcams. At last a tall person with children reviews rear seat space in cars, getting a car with enough space for me to have a rear facing car seat behind me is tricky.
17mins in and really enjoying this, had to comment, great stuff!
Thanks 4 a great review.. went looking 4 this to watch it again as considering a new eV purchase.. bought a new e2008 after watching.. thanks 4 the service u are providing
Wonderful reviews, Jonny. More Brian in future vids, please. :-)
Fantastic content as always Johnny, I always appreciate the small details you bring to your reviews.
Excellent presentation. Have driven de ec4 over 8000km now and it is an absolute joy to drive it: comfortable ride, easiest handing, lavishly equipped.
Excellent reviews Jonny, have always really enjoyed your EV reviews. The info in the header is really super helpful too. Cheers, as always.
👍🏼
This is a real test comparison, nice work Jonny!
Such a good video. Was comparing all the different models until a 26 minutes. Brian completely stole the show! 😆🤣
Eloquent, meaningful, and original analysis! Clearer on-screen font typeface would work better for me though
Thank you for an excellent comparative review. I would go for the Citroën with its comfort and practicality. More comparison like this, please.
I have taken an e2008 for a two hour test drive back in early spring on a particularly damp and cold day. It performed pretty well for the conditions and I will be looking to lease one later in the year.
The ëC4 does have certain hints of Citroën GSA to it, which is no bad thing.
The Corsa while being the most attractive generation of Corsa, still doesn't quite have that feeling of the 208.
Thank you for not geeking out on kilowatts and range 🤘 this was a proper car walkthrough
Finally a REAL review!! Excellent job! Thank you SO very much!
You know I thought yesterday "funny that Jonny never reviewed that electric Corsa" - what a pleasant surprise :)
Jonny, I loved this review and watched every minute. I even let the ads run as promised a while back. But it's still hard to argue that any of these make better financial sense than a good BMW F31 320 diesel and its 700+ mile range, £30 road tax and low purchase price (my 2013 cost £8k). I drive loads of miles in mainly long runs to Devon and Kent from Liverpool and use a smart 451 cabrio for local driving too.
i have never owned a car and cant even afford one, but i just love watching your reviews of these EV cars lol!!! They are just so good!
Thank you v much
Cheers Jonny, loving all the different videos as of late.
Stellantis are definitely making some good quality cars. I'm curious to see how they will market Lancia in the next 5-10 years.
Jonny is my favorite reviewer by far. He’s natural, sensible and passionate at the same time. He’s like a trusty, knowledgeable fríend
I own a 2008 GT e like with the sun roof just like the one you tested and I absolutely lov it!!
It’s my first ev after 40 years of running performance diesels and I would never go back now… real shame range isn’t better but I took delivery of mine last November and look forward to many more mission trips in this car..
Ps your still the best motor journalist…. keep up the great work…
Thanks for another great video the range of EVs is becoming incredible, and I just took a look a moment ago at how many used EVs there are here in Adelaide South Australia. On one of the major car sites there are over 300. Not long ago there were hardly any. They are still all out of my price range but the fact they are becoming more available means the price will slowly become more affordable. Any how keep up the good work, I’ll keep watch and keep dreaming but eventually will end up with an EV.
My dad just bought a corsa EV and he absolutely loves it, i do too. PS i don't really have an issue with the back seats, i think they're quite cosy and i have enough room to be comfortable even though i'm 6ft.
@James Smith I'm not upset though? Im just mentioning that I don't have an issue with room in the back seat even though i'm not a small guy.
Jonnie, you are a brilliant real world reviewer you knowledge of cars is unsurpassed.
Nice to hear the whole family opinion, including Brian's. Luton intolerant lol.
Always enjoy you perspective on what ever you are working on, 0 to 80 in 30 min wow :0)
Great video, it shows how the same plateform can be adapt to fit the brands of a group like PSA, and for their real first electric cars it's a good start.
And Peugeot is back with a good design
Nothing to do with Peugeot whatsoever, youre confusing Peugeot for PSA, and PSA doesn't even exist anymore, its Stellantis.
@@Galahadfairlight and the corsa is from PSA era when they bought GM Europe and made it base on the 208 plate-forme
@@Galahadfairlight and PSA mean Peugeot Societe Anonyme
@@albanb its the parent company, Peugeot itself is a brand within that parent company, Peugeot itself owns nothing
@@Galahadfairlight that doesn't change the fact that these cars where made by PSA group pre stelantis, and this group had a lot to do with Peugeot for the name since the P was for Peugeot, like VAG with Wolkwagen
My comment was in 2 parts the peugot part was a separate one just to point out the design.
Excellent Jonny and team!
Cheers Johnny! Love you're reviews.
Good stuff. Will be testing an e-2008 this week. Had a Corsa (petrol) for a few days recently and driving was ok but the interior was darker and more miserable than anything i've sat in for years.
excellent content, as usual, thank you for the effort put into testing and reviewing these cars!
small nitpick: please consider changing the font and layout on the technical data info, the font now is quite fancy with unusual shapes (e.g. capital W) and hard to read in places, the center-aligned text with inconsistent line-breaks does not help - it brings down the overall feel of otherwise a very well produced video!
We have had an e208 for about a month now. Quite "thirsty" it is but it doesn´t matter. We love it. And by the way, we love your channel too!
5m30 you said Stalantis and I could hear you and porter snickering giddily, making up dance track titles
This is a great I love the real world review, it’s exactly what I want to see, I think I’d have the Citroen which surprises me
I quite liked this series Jonny , well done .. I feel like it gave me more of an insight to EV ownership . I will get full advantage of a Renault Zoe for 5 weeks in August .. Very much looking forward to that .. Great reviews sir 👍👍
Great video, thanks CP!
Proper car journalism, Johnny’s the best.
Great video, love your matter of fact/informative comments!Citroen though a bit too fussy in outside looks, different though!
Waiting for Jonny to buy a written off PSA/Stellantis EV and converting the Jimny to electric propulsion.
Hi Jonny. Great review. I have a lexus is300h in Fuji red which I think is great but everyone else disagrees .
Great reviews. For me the C4 was the pick.
Brutally honest review, the best! Thank you :-)
This is a very good video and well detailed.
I am a family guy myself and have been looking to move to an electrical car and I must say this video is very useful. Great job. The Peugeot tick my box as well. Really good video.
Phenomenal video, but bugger me is CZcams milking it with the advert volume throughout it!
Brilliant video Johnny
One of the best car reviews I've seen, real world/real life observations, love the notebook checks. I'm off to check out ec4 + e2008's (sorry Corsa-too small). What family car do you own?. Keep up the good work.
We hate SUV type vehicles, but we leased a brand new Peugeot 3008 in early 2020 for a 6 week trip through Europe and we absolutely fell in love with its style and dynamics. Totally agree re you choice of the 2008 which is the mirror baby brother.Who would have thought they would get this so right.
So informative...one of the BEST channels......thank you :-)
Real world testing and very honest, just enjoy the detail and paced at a good level.
I don't think we even get these in Australia, but I very much enjoyed the video. Well presented as always :)
I bought my e208 because of your review. Awesome car. Cheers
Ditto!
Jonny, I know it won't go to your head but you really are the most intelligent, comprehensive and pragmatic car reviewer on the whole of CZcams. Thank you for your huge efforts in making such informative (and entertaining) reviews - and may you hit 1m subscibers very, very soon. You deserve it, sir.
Excellent helpful video, I need to think what to replace the 28 klw Ioniq with . So far the EC4 followed by the 208. More of Brian please
Really good summary from a respected auto commentator. I test drove a n e2008 and it was great. Loved it. The only concern (no criticism of the 2008) is the range in winter, one thing not touched on, but perhaps the most important. Stated range of 215miles in real world is 160miles and in winter (the Peugot dealer advised) that one day at -8deg with four people in it that dropped to 100miles. If you switch to economy mode the heating goes off🥶. So, while I would love an electric one, I ordered a petrol auto (sorry planet). If the stated range was accurate there would be no contest.
The 2008 is simply brilliant. It's a Tardis and looks great. There are loads of extras and excellent standard safety kit (radar collision protection etc). With the safety pack (an extra - why Peugot?) It's NCAP five star (without it's NCAP four).
The boot is large 434lts and just over 1470lts with back seats down.
The 3d dash and steering wheel are stunning, but will always split the critics and users alike. The steering wheel is adjustable foe rake and reach, so you can get a view of the beautiful dash (I'm only 5'8").
One tiny point of correction, the auto petrol does come with a park break, not a traditional break. The gear shifter is identical to the electric.
I'm not a car dealer or commentator, just a family man who found your review really helpful, especially for people who are thinking about buying one of these cars.
Just bought a used e2008 GT with sunroof, your review sold it 😎👍
Great to hear. Hope you enjoy it.
A terrific, in-depth appraisal of these 3 cars, Jonny - brilliant, real-world, living-with-it stuff.
And, though you implied it in your 3 reviews, it's interesting that Stellantis have given each of these 3 cars their own, reasonably unique driving character - despite them sharing, like you said, the VAST majority of EV drivetrain componentry under the skin.
There's always been quite significant Internet 'chatter' bemoaning how, once we're all 'forced' to drive EVs, they'll be "all the same, bland driving experience"... that's clearly not the case.
An aspect of your 3 reviews that I found a little surprising, though, was to do with range...
You said that the Corsa-e was 135 miles in 'Winter / start of Spring' conditions.
The e-C4 was giving you 150-160 miles in 'colder weather' conditions.
Finally, the e2008 was giving you 160 miles in 'summer' conditions.
First observation is that, versus their WLTP range estimates, NONE of these cars is efficient in ANY real-world driving...!
The Corsa-e is a 36% reduction - yes, I know batteries suffer in colder weather, but that's a HUGE drop...! My 30kWh Leaf drops only about 15% in Winter.
And my second observation is that the eC4 appears to be the most efficient of the 3...? Though, potentially that might be because of the 'chilled-out' character of the car meaning you were driving it also in a more 'chilled-out', more efficient fashion?
But, in your real-world experience, it seemed to be giving you a significantly higher range than the Corsa-e in what you seemed to describe as similar 'colder' temperatures, yet the e2008 did no better than the eC4 in, presumably, warmer summer weather.
In any case, given that I'm no longer carting kids and their associated paraphernalia about and that I absolutely rate ride comfort over sportiness, my vote would be for the eC4 all-day-long...
Having said that, I actually intend to buy a Tesla Model 2 as and when it hits these shores...! lol... :-)
We'll need Brian to be a regular contributor where he can continue to give his opinion on design language.
Jonny followed Brian's preference 😻 Brian has a fantastic sixth sense. I am considering to try out the e2008 later this year when I visit England.
Sorry Jonny, only just watched this video. Great piece of work that succinctly displays the merits and negatives of each car on what is essentially the same platform. I really enjoyed the content and your expert critique 👍😎
Many thanks for watching George
Great video. Thanks for doing it.
Brilliant presentation thank you
As soon as I saw the Peugeot’s ‘non round’ steering wheel I knew Jonny would mention the Allegro 😄
It’s your eye for detail in these reviews that I really appreciate and I think I’ve learnt a lot along the way about car design and styling. Always get the sense you’ve done your homework as you glance back at your notebook for some piece of detail. Makes me wonder if you’ve got a stash of these from over the years that you can revisit…!
Richard, appreciate that. Tbh my notebook thing stemmed from having an awful memory, and always struggling when filming with TV. I decided to sod hiding it and just bringing it along for the ride!
Jonny what are you doing to me. These amazingly in-depth videos may be converting me to EV. God help me
Had our e2008 for a little over 6 months. Our first EV. Winter range is 160 miles, summer 192 miles on average. Ours is GT spec, as the spec we were going to order (just as Jonny mentioned) was more expensive in total than the GT spec! Boot is big enough to hold a wheelchair, a couple of large rucksacks, a blanket, coats and the charging lead bag. Ride comfort is good. First EV weekend break to Cornwall in it 2 weeks ago. Only issue we found was the lack of charger infrastructure, other little downside is there is no air vent for the rear passengers of the vehicle. Brilliant car. Would recommend this car. VW lost our custom after many years of owning VW group cars, due to the cheap plastic build quality of late. Good all round family car, Just as Jonny Mentioned.
Callum, fantastic real world feedback. Thank you for watching.
really great review, loved it
Really helpful review. Cheers
Brilliant video! I'd go for the e2008 too!
