- In this video, I use parts laying around the house to build a crude spectrum analyzer! It works well to measure optical density, but needs refinement to measure specific wavelengths.

I'm pretty sure you had the whole spectrum in screen at all times. What comes through the grating is sort of a hologram; you can zoom in and it's still the whole thing represented.. also, I was a little concerned about your image quality, the software can only analyze as good an image as it's fed. I'm having the same problem though...

Nice video man , but the measurements and the hole work with the software was wrong you should calibrate the software with some sources of light that you know their wavelengths ,and then adjust it in the software screen

@@DIYBiotech That question is racing through my mind. From dead cameras, we can get them, controling electronic wastes. CD or DVD, prism and diffraction grating film are well known things for diffraction grating. The next things? I don't know more than these.

won't work, there are many diff kinds of plastic with each a handful of frequencies.

Nice work, How ironic is it that we need to poluute the environment to dig out and synthisize the materials to make the instruments to see how polluted the place now is. I think its very ...very... how would you describe that? We make the vehicle to go to work to make vehicles if we didnt have the vehicle would we need to go to work sort of thing. Not that they are wrong but they arent what nor is anyone what life and existence and its full potential could be because having to deal with all the imballances. like a business or profession having to stop to deal with paperwork, tax, reporting to authorities, permits, redtape... Hey we used to be farmers sowing, reaping, monitoring harvests, seasons weather spending time with family, raising and educating and passing down education to children now we spend 80% of the time filling out paperwork. yelling at the family, in debt... Because Democracy and Freedom.....AND MEDIA convinces us that its the right way, WE RULE, WE ARE BETTER THAN THE OTHER NATION AT FAILING.
I was looking for a video about how spectroscopy or so could tell what chemical elements the light was composed of. Cant find it.
