- Today I take a look at an older video from Joey G here on CZcams unboxing his order from DKOldies. He got a crap ton of NES games and a System. The console is pretty rough! He may not feel like he got ripped off or scammed but I definitely think he did.

I used to be a retro-game collector.
One day, It suddenly hit me that I was a "shelf collector".
As all my collection was just sitting there. Collecting dust.
Especially whenever I had the urge to play old games, I'd just fire up my PC or modded OG Xbox and play emulated versions.
It was after that realization that I gradually offloaded my collection on eBay.
Got a nice chunk of change.
No regrets.
It’s pretty pointless. I won’t sell anymore of what I already have(a bite sized collection) but I can’t justify buying these old games for outrageous prices.
Haven’t used anything below PS3 in ages because it emulates well and it’s more convenient

Not me I play my retro games, my nes collection is around 75 games with more coming in soon, I collect for nes, snes, sega genesis and n64, will soon to be adding a good condition ps1 that I paid 22 bucks plus shipping for that comes with 4 controllers

damn, dude spent $800 and still got 3rd party accessories for his NES from one of the worst 3rd party companies. Also the av to hdmi converters are usually used for connecting to a tv that doesn't have composite ports or connect to a capture card (which I do). It blows up the image to 720p or 1080p but it isn't true HD
I can imagine blowing that image up would look like a train wreck
whats ironic is that most tv supports composite but not component and "Old Skool" anything is low quality trash.

Yeah if I'm dropping $800 on a Nintendo it's going to come with original controllers the light gun and without any effing cracks in it
@@steviefreakincmy Hisense google tv 43" 4k tv has composite outs on the back and honestly the GameCube and PS2 look phenomenal and has no lag. I've never bought into the converters, but I know some that are highly reviewed so I might give one a try sometime.
$800 sheesh. The thing is, most people will play those games for about a few weeks, the nostalgia fades and then it sits or ends up in the closet.
Not me nes is my most played console and if i had a ps5 that would have the most dust probably.
Then when it comes time to offload them and resell them to a collector or a store which will only obviously t 50%-70% of their resale/FMV- value their jaw will hit the floor when they say "no way dude! I paid 900 for all this off DK oldies! I know what I have!", And then the knowledgeable staff informs them that they got completely fleeced and paid way over price for Commons.
PSA: He used to have 3 more rings, but he sold them and still got 3rd party controllers. Poor guy.

When he started unboxing all this, he slowly realised that nostalgia cost him some hard cash. But I think money is no big problem for him. If I'd see that chipping on the front, I'd be worried if the console is working at all. He doesn't seem to give crap about it it's working or not. So, it's not even a good as investment. It's really just display piece for him. I'm sure it'll look awesome on display with those chipped edges...
I would have been angry if i got ripped off for 800 dollars, all that hard earned money from one week worth of labor down flushing towards the drain.

How all of their consoles are not refurbished and that consoles are too overpriced for costumers budget.

I haven’t even watched the whole video yet and I immediately have found an issue. The first game he pulls out is made by Tengen which was not an official Nintendo game brand so it definitely did not originally come with an official Nintendo sleeve. So DKOldies already hosed him.
Yeah the tengen has the cardboard slip cover , i still have mine for one of my tengen games

I am a retro game collector and I got an NES mint in box with instructions, the cards, the original Mario/Duck Hunt and first run gray light gun. And while it's mint, it certainly isn't worth over a grand!! This poor guy when DK saw the bling, they knew he was coming and ripped him the eff off!! That console is garbage!! Now I do have techniques to file and repair chips and damage and make it look good ,but it will never be what he paid for!!
I'm appalled at DK, and that POS AV to HDMI? Those are trash!!! The image is often white out, their are bars and artifact in the image, and it just looks like crap!! A pro could have offered a board level mod that will give the NES true HDMI that is top quality and it looks good plugging into the cabinet. And while it's more money, at least it could have been offered. Also, for the price of a few of these so called "Original Carts" you could get an Everdrive M8 that can have every single game NES and others have made. It's an SD card based "multigame" cart that will give you any game and for under a hundred bones. I truly feel sorry for anyone that believes Joey, or anyone from DK Oldies. Respectfully? They need to die off like that crap fest PC Builder "Artisanal Builds".
I bought a 3rd party NES controller from Gamestop that was on clearance that was made by a company called Cirka and it works good. I needed another because I prefer the square controller to the dog bone one that came with my top load NES. It's funny that in all these unboxings I've been seeing lately no one ever buys the top load system.
Top loader is great but u can only hook it up one way while og u had two options. Prob why most get the og. I have an og and a top loader. But i play my nes consoles alot so if one breaks down im still playing my nes games lol

At 3:49... I have an AV to HDMI converter (not that exact one) and I use it when I take my modded Xbox to my friend's house and we all play Halo 2 on his flatscreen. It works nicely. They're probably different based on the manufacturer though....
Yeah some of them are much better. Typically the ones people buy are the cheap ones and they’re not too great.

I've picked up a similar lot just a year ago on Facebook for 50 bucks. And this is why Dkoldies stays in business, uniformed people buying their stuff. Sad thing is not a single heavy hitter in that lot.

I can't believe DK didn't include refurbished original controllers. Anything 'Old Skool' brand is the known as the cheapest most terrible product and should be avoided. Sort of par for the course for DKOldies, I suppose.
I've gotten these often from DK so they are pretty commonly included. They must have bought a whole bunch of them. Tested them against my Nintendo branded controller and found zero latency. No drift or lag. They're even better than the Cadet.

Do all Konami/Ultra games have the white 24 printed instead of a stamped number on the back label? His turtles and track and field did not. Does anyone know the answer? I see various copies of konami/ultra games with/without the 24.

The gauntlet game came with a tengen sleeve which is cardboard. The sleeves that say Nintendo on them Only came with games made by Nintendo. All other lic Nintendo games came with a black sleeve with no logo.Old nes controllers aren't that hard to find and can be rebuilt pretty easily. For the sake of collecting maybe i could see having a 3rd party controller to use for playing games(to save wear on the original controller) but that console should come with oem controllers especially how much he paid. Also an original power adapter. The av connectors aren't that big a deal for that console.

Those HDMI converters aren't all that bad, you can get them for about 15$ and they work just fine.
There is a difference between collecting physical having games stack up on shelves and not acctually playing video games
And acctually playing video games beating the game then trading away your entire physical collection to buy new games

Some people don't care if they're ripped off. I've always shopped around for prices, before I buy. And one of the main reasons why even twenty years ago why would never buy from dkoldies is because their prices are ridiculous.
Most of the games that I've got in my collection I've got from eBay, or mom-and-pop stores. When I was in college I would buy from this place online called off-the-charts video games. But I don't think their business anymore.
Big thanks for pointing out hating on the “other” console is just stupid. Im 51 Atari VCS was my first console & im a PlayStation guy all the way. I do own a launch edition Xbox One. Kind of cash, spent the extra $150-$200 to get an Open Source Scan Converter. Super low latency and you can upscale to 5x the original screen resolution. Looks great on an hdtv!

Yes those av to hdmi boxes are beyond garbage. Dont improve the quality at all just lets you plug in an HDMI for a TV that doesn't have component/composite ports but tbh it will look so unplayably bad it's not even worth bothering anyway

I bought an nes with original ac adapter, rf switch, 2 original controllers and 7 games that was found in an attic and looks just like it did when it was new only paid $50 for it
I spent $80 at the pawn shop a year ago. Received a NES no cracks or bumps, light gun oem, two oem controllers, oem cables. Only a handful of cheap games though. But still, Imagine paying $1050 with a company and getting shit 3rd party everything and a console that is litrerally falling apart. If you find "scam" in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of Joey from DKoldies smiling like a douche. I know this is an older video now, but it actually makes me mad they rip people off this bad.

That being said, there are a lot of people that spend money like this on this website because they just don’t know any better and aren’t even tech savvy enough to find prides and reviews online. I’m sure there are lots of older people who see a site like dkoldies and think it would be nice to buy their older adult kids something from their past. Or they might buy stuff from the site to show their grandkids or own kids the type of stuff they used to play.

@@steviefreakinc he was swinging his legs until he accidentally hit one of the controller's cables pulling down the gamecube and breaking it. The fall was by no means big at least 2 feet but my gamecube never turned on again. We were kids at the time...I feel so stupid for not realizing as a kid that i could have simply gotten it repaired...i hate myself eternally.

Those AV2HDMI boxes suck. They use the same USB type that the Dualshock 3 used for power and some don't come with a power cable. But they just blow the screen up and makes it super fuzzy. Very much like if someone smeared Vaseline on your TV.
I bought one a while ago for my Dreamcast but it looked like shit so bad I returned it and got VGA cables instead. Then I bought the Kaiko VGA2HDMI and it looks so much better.

I have the Quest 2 and I'm not saying you shouldn't get a VR Headset, but usually after 2-3 hours of playing with it, I'm good for like a month haha

I got a SNES with two original controllers, super Mario world, original AV and power cables, no cracks, and no yellowing for 100 bucks. The thing looks brand new. I can’t imagine paying 800 bucks for that cracked, yellow and broken nes.
