  • So I wanted to explore ways to get bow down quicker, while also gaining some torque. I went to my friends at Nettle Props and asked for a 4 blade upgrade. I can definitely tell a difference. I went from a 19 to a 17 pitch. Also note this one is Stainless Steel. www.nettleprops...

    Manual says put the Remote into forward to lock system, and reverse when tightening. 2x4 no matter the placement isn't the best method. but to each his own.

      Sweet! Thanks. I'll try that out here in a few months and I'll update everyone on how that works out for me.

    i had trouble finding the correct thrust washer ,and i found other people with the same problem , what it was that SEI when they rebuild the lower unit ,went with a larger shaft , so i used 126870 thurst washer

    Micheal, this is Bryan. I've never seen the 2 x 4 braced against the skeg. I don't think the skeg is that strong. We've always placed the board between the prop and the cavitation plate. Just saying.

      Been thinking about this comment. The OMC Cobra for sure can handle the 80 ft. lbs on the skeg. The Volvo Penta seemed a little iffy, but it handled it. The Volvo in this video had the skeg ripped off already and new material, tig welded and it still seemed to hold up well. If someone reading this has a skeggard, meaning part of their skeg is missing, definitely don't use the skeg to tighten the prop.

    Thanks for videos , really usefull. Got a question on props. I have OMC cobra with SX drive and original prop 14,25x21 aluminium 3 blade on a Fourwinns horizon 190 1994. Getting out of water pretty quick but even with trim down the nose still high. Does the 4 blades will help ? Also i must run above 3500 rpm to stay out of water. I think its alot and also engine still got alot of power between 4k and 5k rpm. So is it a good idea to get a 23 or 25 pitch instead of 21 ? Thanks i dont want to speed 800$ on a prop and be disapointed 😉 forgot to say that im often towing 2 tubes with 3-4 kids on it. With the 21 i have alot of power but wondering how the 5.0l 190hp will handle it with a 23 or 25 pitch prop.

      Before you consider switching props, I think you need to buy the product and follow the procedure I outline in this video. czcams.com/video/MyZiIegB_DU/video.html

    Is your Penta 5.0 or 5.7?

    • @michaelromer2016
      @michaelromer2016  Před 4 lety

      It will get on a plane really fast. It launches it out of the water really way better than a 3 blade aluminum!

      How about cruise and top speed performance? I have a 23' walkaround with a 5.0 and Volvo Cobra SX leg I'm wondering if I can improve my cruise and top speed with an SS prop over the original 4 blade alloy prop I have on it now....... any input appreciated!

    My thrust washer is also stuck, what are some strategies to remove it without a puller? Also, are you still happy with the 4 blade prop?

  • @raychapman6810
    @raychapman6810 Před 4 lety +1

    There is a recommendation in my VP Shop Manual that the carrier bearing anode needs removal and clearance checked when installing a SS prop. Did you need to do that?

      I'll get to it in a month. The difference between 3 vs. 4 blades are night and day different. On the water, I noticed the boat getting on a plane, almost instantly. Responsiveness, is also a strong point with this one. Keep in mind, they are a little pricey, but if you ever decide to sell your boat, keep the box, and both props. This will hold it's value.
