What construction did Europe make when it colonized Africa? There is almost no construction foundation and only local natural resources will be exposed.
China is building the foundation of Africa and creating win-win opportunities.

From my point of view, if the various African countries want to make deals that help their nations, GOOD. If China offers a better deal then they should take it. I get annoyed when other nations try to dictate what other leaders should do. For western diplomatic leaders, especially the U.S. to be alarmed at what China is doing is laughably hypocritical. And this is from a. Free market capitalist viewpoint. We need to get rid of this obsession over China. The US I believe doesn't understand why China is acting the way it does. It’s not this big boogeyman, it’s a nation that STILL remembers the humiliating century, and is continuously at risk of collapse.
As for Africa, the U.S. and western powers has had numerous chances to make a beneficial partnership. How many failures did foreign interventions play out? How many negative “neo-imperialism” deals did western powers make? Or the failure of humanitarian efforts play out? The numerous dictatorships supported?

It’s important to note regarding the mineral wealth in Africa - not to knock Africa but “rare earth minerals” aren’t actually rare, that’s just what they’re called. And also, it’s likely that other important mineral deposits will be found now that we need them. For example, the largest known lithium deposit was just found in the US .. this year! Now people are motivated to look. Remember how in the early 2000s everyone said we were running out of oil? Well the. We found the Permian Basin and fracking
I like Africa a lot but the mineral and energy cards are not going to be the strongest hands to play against the West (the US has all the rare earths, lithium, oil, etc it needs). I think the best hand it can play is it’s robust populations and consumer markets. Africa has very high birth rates and huge populations - access to sell things to those people is the hand to play. There’s no serious dependence on any African resource but access to a booming consumer market is certainly something the economic powers of the US, the EU and China would all love to have

But if they did so, and other counties don't, then the cars will just be produced somewhere else.
That's why I don't critizise a specific company or country, but the capitalistic systen itself.

one could ask why the US or Europe didn't have an issue with people stealing from these in the 19th century and maybe there were issues there as well but today a simple anklegrinder is enough to cut trough sections of rail, a rubber handled pair of steel cutting shears is all that is needed to snip cables, which can then just be burned and sold for steel and copper,

I understand but on the colonial conduct I have to defend Belgium despite being Flemish first and foremost
What you are speaking about is "freestate congo" essentially this was leopold II's personal possesion, he was both "king of the Belgians" and "king of Congo"
the atrocities happened under him and these were a case of laisez faire atrocities, "bullets for hands" the force publique was 95% African natives (from outside of congo mostly) they cut people's hands of so they could hunt but that doesn't excuse the colonial authorities or the corporations there because this colony was granted to him on the condition that it would be open to exploitation by any corporation that wished to invest in doing so.
eventually he was forced to give it up, global pressure played some part but mainly pressure in Belgium itsself, Flemish nationalists played on the shared repression, french speakers played on the need to take the colony out of royal hands, in the end (the brittish and french hoped they could get it by the way) it passed into the hands of the Belgian government in 1908, from then on until the 1960s it was one of the better colonies, treasuries were split immediatly and the exploitation and paternalism continued, but the major abuses were ended right then and there.
today the DRC has a lower standard of living than it did in the 1920s, Belgium wanted to mend the immage freestate congo left behind but never really managed to do so. the Belgian secret service was also involved in the murder of the first congolese prime minister together with the CIA as he was moving into the soviet sphere of influence, after that they themselves were kicked out by mobutu taking over and swiftly nationalising l'union miniere haute katanga and from there on out the state has been in a perpetual downward spiral

so Belgium's militairy wil never be united, it will never be great

I think it's a mistake to characterize the loans from the Chinese Development Bank as being "cheap". Compared to the World Bank, CDB interest rates are often more than 100 basis points higher and the terms can be decades shorter. After decades of making loans to projects that defaulted, the World Bank has become more picky about where it lends simply because it's bad policy to bankrupt your debtors. The look for good projects that will benefit the borrowing nation, not send it into default. So countries typically turn to China when they are declined by the WB or the EBRD, not because the CDB offers more attractive terms.

I believe the main purpose is the economic development, stability, and quality of life in Africa for Africans. Neither the US nor EU benefit in a world where they have to do all the heavy lifting, and more notably, fend off the migration of millions seeking a better life in North America and Europe. If US and French governments felt that the nations of the Sahel could handle security in that region, they would have left long before the recent coups.

The western political elite is visionless and too focused on keeping their dominance instead of adopting to the new political situation. This is one of main reasons why French influence is literally evaporating into thin air within only few years as macron literally acts like a neo-colonist! Also not entire western alliance is loosing ground in Africa, Turkiye has been spreading influence in many African countries and Turkish army can operate in many countries where US or France are not welcome like Somalia. The biggest problem of Turkiye they don't have financial means to spread their influence further otherwise you can literally replace a lot of those russky/Chinese flags with Turkish flags in a single day. However US and France are more worried about containing Turkish influence despite great benefits it can provide. Even taliban asked Turkish forces to stay and control critical infastructure including Kabul international airport as they didn't have qualified personel to do so but Turkish side refused. So Afghanistan was also opened to chinese influence without slightest resistance from the west. More correct title should be ''How moronic actions of the west gifting Africa to China and Russia on a golden plate''! Fun Fact: It was Russia who saved The Union during the American Civil War as they sent their Navy to San Francisco and New York when England and France were just about to enter the war on the side of the Confederates since London created the Confederates. France was already in Mexico making a spear head movement to resupply the Confederates and to open up a Pacific Theatre and to create a port in California. England already amassed 11,000 troops and growing stationed at their Northern Confederacies border now called Canada ready to open a Northern Theatre to divert Union troops away from their Southern Confederacy then to attack The Unions naval blockade. The Union would have been completely destroyed and annexed by those two great powers leaving the Confederates to exist as either a puppet state of London or to be fully brought back into the fold of the British Empire.
London was already courting (threatening/bribing) other countries to get involved like Spain while Russia was in talks with Prussia to ally with incase London was to intervene.
Seeing all of this Tsar Alexander II wrote a letter to Queen Victoria saying “If you enter in this war it will be a casus belli for all out war with the Russian Empire”. The stage was set for the 1st World War and Russia stopped it.
There is also a memorial in San Francisco for the
hundreds of Russian sailors who came off their Asiatic fleet ships that died while helping the city put out a fire that threatened to lay waste to it during the War.

    • @JPJ432
      @JPJ432 Před 6 měsíci

The Russian fleet also threatened to Shell Australian ports along with other British Pacific Colonies if Britain aided the Confederates. A confederate war ship spent a lot of time in Australian waters and was supported by the Australian public, some even signing on as crew members. This Confederate war ship laid waist to the US Pacific whaling fleet and is reported to have fired the last shot in the war
Russia also helped Thailand (Kingdom of Siam) maintain its sovereignty from being completely Partitioned/Annexed from the British and French around the same time. The very word Thai (ไทย) means 'free man' in the Thai language which is partially to thank to the Russians as they might have ended up being a colony or part of another country/colony if not for their intervention.

full disclosure, it has brought great return on investment, in the form of cheap mineral resources, copper was also refined to electricity grade copper trough electrolysis utilising massive dams, dams which utterly wrecked the natural processes in and around rivers, the waste also poluted large swathes of land.
I know that things are not much better in many area's there, but in truth our "good intentions" were just giving the child a name, corporations, elites,... they wanted those ressources,
what is bs is blaming "whites" or "europeans" the blame lays squarely with those who did it and those who benefitted by it, and off those most are now African elites as well as corporations like Unilever which was active in the exploitation of African resources, same for the Belgian royal house, British royal house and others which have made their initial fortunes trough abussive means
in truth colonialism really didn't end, but under new management and as such Africans should look towards their own political elite which overwhelmingly descends from the local elites put in power by european colonial powers over 60 years ago

The people that were involved, the forms of governance, and literally every aspect of that society is long dead. The world is a far different place than it was hundreds of years ago so I think it’s about time for some to forgive and move on for there is plenty of current crimes for everyone to be mad about.

Plenty. The issue, though, is that instead taking agency and fixing the problems, too many of the local corrupt governments (who conveniently forget that billions of dollars flow into the continent) piss away the money on poor planning, terrible governance, and cronyism. South Africa was a country on the rise... until they decided they didn't want to be anymore. Rolling black outs isn't the fault of British colonialists, actually.

Africa’s problems are NOT due to colonialism, corruption, bad leadership, poor skills, or a lack of education. It is because after African countries became free, they despised the West so much they rejected Liberalism (In the European sense of the word, meaning capitalism, democracy, and secular rule of law) and established authoritarian socialist governments. Socialism, and other illiberal economic systems and tyrannical forms of government, have ensured Africa has stayed poor. Corruption is everywhere in Africa for that reason, and wide-spread corruption is difficult to recover from. The countries that are doing the best are the ones that are beginning to liberalize.

The complexities of the region's geopolitical landscape, marked by historical legacies, economic interests, and political considerations, make the path to democracy a challenging one. While the region seeks new foreign partners, it's critical to remember that democracy can be elusive when intertwined with such intricate factors.
France and the EU have deep-rooted connections, yet doubts persist about the extent of these relationships' benefits to the local populace.
China's investments, though substantial, bring questions about the terms of their deals and the long-term consequences for the development of the countries involved.
Russian security agreements offer an alternative, but understanding their motivations and effects on the region is essential.
Adding to these complexities, local politicians may prioritize their own agendas, potentially diverging from the people's needs. This divergence between political interests and the genuine welfare of Sahel's citizens further complicates the region's democratic aspirations.
In sum, the Sahel region's pursuit of new partnerships reflects a yearning for change. However, the road to democracy is marked by intricacies that demand careful navigation. Let us hope that amid these challenges, democracy can find its place, fostering sustainable development and improved living conditions for the people of the Sahel.

@@howtoappearincompletely9739 I’m crafting this response as a linguistic homage to a bygone era, I, an old man firmly rooted in his ways, extend my gratitude for the mistaken belief that such words could spring from artificial intelligence. This delightful misapprehension stands as a light-hearted reflection on the dramatic evolution in our collective approach to the written word. In the scholarly sanctuaries of the late 1980s, our pursuit of knowledge transcended mere data acquisition, embarking instead on a voyage through the realms of critical analysis and hermeneutic exploration. This epoch, though it may now be viewed through a conservative lens, was rich in a tradition of rigorous intellectual discipline, compelling us to engage with texts in a manner that seems almost esoteric in today's digital age.
As an individual who has witnessed the transformation of decades, my adherence to the art of intellectual discourse harks back to a time when crafting arguments involved a depth and nuance now rare in our era of tweets and instant gratification. Our academic pursuits were not just about basic literacy; they were an intricate ballet of thought and expression. This commitment to complexity in thought and eloquence in articulation, characteristic of an older generation, stands in stark contrast to the concise, often superficial nature of modern digital dialogues. While the youth of today navigate the swift currents of social media, I remain anchored in the rich waters of extended prose - a subtle, yet poignant reminder of the timeless grace and power of a well-constructed argument.
