A lot of the bad reputation surrounding the taste of MREs are from those who don't eat them properly. Ie they don't heat up the food, don't use the accessories, or they just get a bad menu. Many of the MRE menus are very good. Although I will say, in terms of quality of their MREs, the U.S is considerably poorer compared to other nations who have less soldiers and thus have a higher food budget for them.
