      They were awesome but I don't think they'll ever have a defensive coach like Charlie McBride. Genius also. Big Red used to play against all these high level qb's that were going to destroy them. Ha. I told my brother don't sweat it. When you're laying on your back the only place you can throw it is straight up. LOL

      And 55% of the 2656 Heisman voters that voted George over Frazier. Remember the voters are evaluating the body of work of the players. OSU's strength of schedule after the end of the season was 8th, Neb 24th. Meaning at the time of the vote, OSU had an even bigger margin because Neb got a boost by playing a better team than OSU did.

    Thank you SteelBuck 6 for this upload! I remember watching this game live. I have always wondered whether Lawrence Phillips would have won the Heisman trophy that year had he kept his temper under control. I agree with Jill Conner's comment below that the '95 Husker team was the greatest college football team that I have ever seen. They had great, calm and very experienced coaching coupled with rare talent, physical and mental toughness, aggressiveness and depth. I love the running game, and Nebraska's power-oriented running attack that mixed in option and play-action passing was the complete package--a running game enthusiast's dream.

    Brian Higginbotham is right. The 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers are the greatest college team ever. That includes 2001 Miami. Or any other team from any other year! The incredible depth of that team is what set them apart. Power speed and insurmountable numbers. Nebraska would have beat the Canes, because of their superiority in the trenches. The ability to grind 💪 it out and wear them out. No team could dictate what they were going to do and do it like the Huskers. Greatest college team ever. Case closed.

      @Steve Kovaleski Yeah, too bad MSU didn't realize the caliber of coach he really was and did everything they could've to have held onto him. No matter how good his teams were doing he rarely looked happy. That's a sign of a great coach. It's hard to think of MSU as a NC contender, but I think he would have gotten them there if he'd have stayed a few more years.

    • @jocamadad
      @jocamadad Před 3 lety

      @Steve Kovaleski I remember that being the reason he gave for not accepting MSU's match of LSU's offer, but he seemed to be doing alright. MSU beat Michigan his last year there and was a pretty good team in my opinion. I think it was really more of the notoriety of being an SEC coach because being at LSU and recruiting against other SEC teams isn't any easier than being at MSU and recruiting against Michigan. If MSU would have upped the offer and let him know he was their guy, he probably would have stayed and might have ended up hoisting a NC trophy for the Spartans.

      If rumor is to be believed, Phillips also beat up a certain transfer quarterback who would go on to become a coach.
      I wasn't there. I don't know it for certain. But, I've heard a consistent version of the same story from multiple, unrelated sources. According to legend, the assault on the QB whose name shall not be spoken, was kept quiet. Apparently, tossing a woman down a flight of steps was an acceptable transgression for public consumption. But a star running back kicking the crap out of a future star quarterback (allegedly, for schtupping the aforementioned running back's girlfriend - then bragging about it) was deemed unsavory.
      I have no earthly idea whether the story is true. But it does have a ring of plausibility.

      Preparation won them the National Title in 1995. The gap between the Gators and Huskers in the National Title game was not due to talent is was due to preparation. The trap, and option are devastating to 4-4 defenses and teams that over-pursue. A high risk-high reward offense that failed only exacerbated the existing problems Florida had. Now one matchup I would have loved to see was 92 Bama and 95 Nebraska. Stallings the defensive wizard vs Osborne the offensive genius. I don't think either team would have been unprepared. It would have come down to who made the mistakes.

       @Charles Shankle what about the "gap" between ASU and Neb 2 games after the Neb/FL game. Holding Neb to 0 points when Neb scored 55 the week before and 65 the week after. Was it a "gap" or the fact that Neb didn't show up like FL didnt?

    • @charlesshankle3178
      @charlesshankle3178 Před 2 lety

      @@mas5867 I saw a combination of the two with Florida. There was complacency, bad game planning, failures to adjust, etc. But, the gap in talent wasn't as staggering as one would be led to believe. Also remember, Nebraska had played in three NCG before the Fiesta Bowl. So, it does make a difference. They knew what to do. Remember, several teams did move the ball on Nebraska that year. But, Nebraska always had answers. In regards to the ASU game, Nebraska made serious mistakes and they got complacent. I cannot name a team that it hasn't happened to at one point or another either recently, in history or sometime in the future.

      Again, Frost managed a 55 pt win the game before and 65 pts the game after and you are gonna bring the experience factor. Spt ASU their missed opportunities and where does leave you?

This was the last time Nebraska was any good. It's 2021, no 4 and 5 star kids want to go play in the middle of Nebraska for a has been. Nebraska holds the 14th and last place recruiting class for 2022. THEY WERE OUT RECRUITED BY THE LIKES OF RUTGERS, ILLINOIS and NORTHWESTERN !! Northwestern has some of the hardest academic standards in the Div. 1. Why would Scott Frost decide to get out recruited by them ?
    For the record, I am not a Michigan State fan.. not even close. Just taken aback as to why Nebraska still thinks they're relevant.
