I wish someone would find the highlights of the 1982 Nebraska-Okie State game. It was billed as a battle of the nations two top rushers Mike Rozier and Ernest Anderson. Mike had some of the most incredible runs I have ever seen in that game. His last touchdown run where he broke several tackles was memorable, However, the short touchdown maybe 9 yards where there All Conference safety hit Mike super hard knocking him back a couple feet, at about the 5 yard line and then Rozier bull dozed over the guy and drove him 5 yards deep in the endzone with a thud was just unreal! Mike sprung up immediately and flipped the ball to the ref, while the safety was still laying there for a few minutes. Mike ran for 251 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries. Something like that. There was an uproar that he wasn't put back in the game to break the school record which was 255 by Rick Berns in 1978 for another play or two. Mike was supposed to be all beat up coming into the game. Still battling the Hip-pointer that kept him out the first half against Missouri, plus beat up hands and a pinched nerve in his neck. But he ran wild and almost set the single game rushing record.

Mizzou showed a lot of fire, but Gill's passing and the Pipeline were too much. Go Big Red!

@@johnbarkley7043 Nebraska was coming off that ugly 14-10 game at Stillwater the week prior. This was on a grass field, and it was a 2nd game which was way too close for comfort for many Husker fans.
There would another two games on the road (K-State and Oklahoma) which were closer than they should've been, with the game in the "Little Apple's" final score quite deceiving.

2 fumbles inside the 10 by Missouri and Matichak dropping a pick 6 were too much to overcome.

Missouri was the first and last team to drop Osborne in the polls. Got that from Rob Johnson. The man is incredible in hit pursuit to expose Osborne's overrated ness.

Love Keith Jackson- classic description of the Oklahoma St./Nebraska game in Stillwater, where Nebraska squeaked out a 14-10 win; "they had a bit of a fist fight last week against Oklahoma St.".

I like Mike Gottfried as an announcer! Excellent announcer, and I wished he'd return. Love this NU football team BTW.

How powerful was this Cornhusker offense? Tom Rathman wasn't even a starter in this group!! Probably the greatest offensive juggernaut in collegiate football history. TO THIS DAY!! The multi-dimensional Turner Gill at quarterback. Mark Schellen, a fulkback good enough to keep future star Rathman on the bench. The lightning fast Irving Fryar at wideout. Then the Strawberries on the Sundae. The fabulous Mike Rozier at Tailback. The greatest back in Nebraska football history. The legendary Bob Devaney called Rozier the finest college runner he'd ever seen. "And I've Seen a Few," Devaney added. I believe Roger Craig was also on the roster as well. A future star in the NFL with the 49ers, along with Rathman. Unable to crack this All World Lineup. The only reason this team didn't win the National Title in a Cakewalk was a lack of speed defensively in the secondary. Devaney said the Nebraska offense was the best hed seen in his almost unparalleled career. He could hardly have been accused of prejudice on that remark. Take any attack since Princeton faced Rutgers in 1869. They would all fall short of this "Pinball Machine On Grass." If not the best team, certainly the best offense. Hands down.

If only the defense played like '84s, no 1 in the country

Roger Craig's senior year was 1982. He was slowed by injuries all season, but had a really good second half in his final regular season game against Hawaii, when Rozier was injured with a Hip-Pointer and ankle sprain. Only played the first half. Both he and Mike had about 130 yards in that game. Craig scored a couple second half TD's. But the '83 team did have Junior Jeff Smith who was a great all purpose guy, and Sophomore Paul Miles as Rozier's backups. Miles was incredibly fast. Ran a 4.28, second on the team, and maybe in the entire nation behind Fryar's blistering 4.23. Alas, Miles never became a starter. He did have a couple hundred yard games though. Injuries knocked him out for the season after the 3rd game against UCLA in '84 and Doug DuBose emerged coming off his Redshirt season. Miles only started one or two games in 1985 as a Senior when Doug was injured.

Aaah, these we're the days when 3rd and 15 was a run option. Some boosters ruined that for us. Wanted more "excitement ". That's where that bum Callahan came from. Won a super bowl with Gruden's team and everyone thought he was a genius.

I wonder if the quarterback gets to carry a quarter during the game? Answers!
