  • Here's a little trick to be able to get Individual touch-to-talk buttons for any mix in the SQ using Bomes Midi Translator.
Apologies if this is fast paced for some midi beginners. I'd be happy to answer any questions about this technique in the comments. I would recommend checking out A&H's webinars on midi connectivity with SQ for getting started (of which there are a few!) :)
    Enjoy folks!

Great video! thanks for the idea to even get into using midi. just had a question on how you programed the soft pads to light up?

Quite simple on the apc mini, it only has red, yellow or green and you just add a new line in bomes to say turn green when pressed and red when not, using different midi velocities to change the color. Every controller does this differently so you have to look through the manual

Hello! How can I set up a microphone for communication between the instrumentalists in the in ear monitor without coming out on FOH. Please, do a video regarding the above question. Thank you

Thanks Shaun, forgot to mention in the video that the softkeys could also be setup to send midi to bomes and trigger this talkback system, so you don't even need to have a midi controller. Hope you can implement it too. Shout if you need any help.

How did you input MSB and LSB into the translator? Currently attempting to set this up using the Elago Stream Deck.

@@shaunisdefunct In Bomes you can choose to output a raw midi message for example B0 MSB ... B0 LSB ...(copy in the messages from the A&H Midi PDF) or you can choose a 14 or 7 bit NRPN message where you can fill in those values in separate boxes. In the output type you choose midi message and below that you choose which type of message. Hope that helps.

@@yannavtips6832 Yes thank you, I appreciate the advice. Can I ask, if I wanted to recall scene 10, for example, on the SQ5, would it simply be the case of adding "B0 00 00 C0 09" in Bome as the outgoing Midi message, under Enter a Midi message as a sequence....? I have been trying this way. However, currently unsuccessful.

@@shaunisdefunct That is correct but your SQ must be on Midi channel 1 if you are sending it B0. Check that if it's not working.

Thanks Johan! Now I'm looking for a cool little slimline midi controller with just a few buttons on it to attach to the side my SQ to do this job permanently.

3 layers of 5 buttons, big, bold and backlit.

That´s a clever way. I never really got my head around MIDI, although I´m a guitar player as well an had to deal with it quite a lot. But since I have my kemper (thank god) I don´t have to worry about it. But it seams I miss out on some good solutions via MIDI...

Its so versatile, almost any live show control software can use it. My lights sound and video systems use midi for control. With the SQ midi can change scene, control levels and pans, toggle assignments and mutes and more. And if the SQ is on the network then any device anywhere on the same network can send it commands.

Hey! Is there a way to contact you? I could need some help with a certain problem.
I am trying to assign a rotary nob on my midi controller to a volume fader on my sq5 but only a specific range. So 1-127 midi results in e.g. -20db to + 10 and not the full fader range.
    Thanks for the great tutorial!

Can I set up control "chains" to trigger multiple events with one midi control? So for example one button toggles all mixes ON?

OK, I got it. simply create multiple translators with the same midi in message...
