Nathan Fillion breaks down what made Castle so stressful to shoot #insideofyou #castle - Zábava
It's just unfathomable to me that Fillion didn't get to play Nathan Drake in Uncharted. Not only had he been great on that short film, but he conveys the exact energy, wit, and sarcasm needed for the part.
And he even looks like Nathan Drake
With Bruce Campbell as Sully.
He's a bit old I think for that part. Nathan Drake is supposed to be late 20s early 30s.
@@crabbypatty10fefrefe Well, did he die at the end of the U4?
They could easily make Uncharted film with Nathan, and they even have a blueprint with a recent fan made film.
@@crabbypatty10fefrefe when the movie was initially proposed back in like uncharted 2 he would have easily played a late 20s Nathan. Sure now he’s old but that’s kind of the point isn’t it? That they didn’t pull the trigger when they should have and we all missed out.
This guy is great, he was the best space cowboy and NEVER should have been cancelled
Was Joss actually one reason it was cancelled??
@@Ocker3 for some reason YT won’t let me edited my comment to add…
‘twas long before the trouble of joss came out, he should’ve been able to ride the high of Buffy/Angel shows with the following he had but FOX fckd it all up from the start. It would’ve become huge had it gotten the chance Buffy did.
@@Ocker3 No, it was entirely Fox execs, they fucked up the schedule, they put the episodes out of order, they put it in the worst slots. It was really almost 100% Fox's fault.
I remember randomly stumbling across serenity on Netflix and didn’t even know who any of the actors were. And that’s exactly what I thought - - this guy is the consummate space cowboy. He might even surpass Han Solo. Which is not a might; he actually leaves han so far behind.
If only Fox knew
Castle early days were unadulterated genius...The writing, the delivery, the casting, the plots...And it was capped by Castle/ Becket chemistry that reminded people of Bogart and Bacall...no part of that production wasn't top notch.
Until the 100th episode - The Lives of Others, maybe? The homage to Rear Window. That seems to have been a clear deflection point.
Or, from not so long ago, it reminds people of Moonlighting, at least the first 3 seasons.
that show was trash. underated my ass. it was middle age woman soft core porn.
Reminded me of Moonlighting
@@carlfreeman6687 Nice to see someone agree with me. I posted that about a week ago.
I worked on Castle for 2 seasons. The entire cast was amazing and kind. But dear god that show was heavy. The scripts were massive for a television procedural. But we got it done.
what was your job on the show man ? just curious
@@akashdeepmandal3531 worked in the costume department. Also did a little time in accounting before realizing I was happier on set.
@@dahhous1575 I never saw Nathan like that, but I was only there for 2 seasons. Stana is an absolute dream. She's such a class act.
Did you work on the show?
@@dahhous1575 ha! Long winded, maybe, but it certainly sounds like you're basing it on real articles, interviews, etc and not just some knee-jerk fan reaction.
I worked on a LOT of television shows. Ended up with just over 300 episodes under my belt before I switched careers. Politics are everywhere and I saw lots of shows fall apart because people couldn't get along. It happens. I can confirm rumors that Nathan and Stana absolutely did not get along, but they were individually great people who treated everyone like family. Super rare for top of the call sheet actors on successful shows. I ended up producing a small thing with Stana around that time and she was wonderful.
Which two seasons did you work on?
One thing that people need to remember is that unlike many ensemble dramas, Nathan was in almost every scene in each episode in the early seasons. Only after pushback from him did they start doing more scenes with the supporting cast to give him somewhat of a break during the shooting schedule.
And it was fleshing out the supporting cast that made the show really work!
@@starfishbear Absolutely 100 %
That just means he isn't waiting around. All of those actors are on set during all of his scenes. Don't for a moment let them convince you they have a hard job. I grew up in Hollywood and my father was involved in the filmmaking process. Actors are very spoiled and as you can see they think working 5 days a week is tremendously stressful when they get paid insane amounts of money for their time, can stop working and enjoy their lives whenever they want to, and pick and choose projects with downtime in between. Not to mention they have people that can do or get them anything they want even when they're on set. They are very lucky
@@starfishbear Ryan and Esposito were fucking GOAT
@@starfishbear yes. Burn Notice figured it out pretty quick and embraced their small ensemble. Person of Interest added characters to have an ensemble. Castle had it almost from the start.
I'm glad whatever happened behind the scenes wasn't apparent at all on screen. All the acting in Castle is phenomenal
I loved him with the two cops. Those guys were a hoot together.
@@ruthsaunders9507 yes!! It's not even a kind of show I like to watch, but the acting was so good I just couldn't stop watching it
I forgot what happened on the set of Castle that ended it abruptly? Something to do with Nathan and Stana Katic?
@@salamander337 I'm guessing a combination of Nathan and Stana getting burned out. It never did come out where it started or where it got out of hand (if it did).
@@salamander337 Nathan tried to get Stana fired thinking it would get him more screen time, so they just canceled the show instead lmao. He treated her like shit and she was seen crying on set a few times iirc
If they weren't getting along behind the scenes, I sure couldn't tell. Both Nathan and Stana brought their A game when cameras were rolling.
They were professionals
You could tell about season 5 or 6. I get the impression that Stana had gotten bored with her character. They tried a couple times to write her different to start a couple seasons, but then pulled back. The final season found a compromise I think, but by then, a lot of people wanted off the ride.
Edit: overall I enjoyed the show, the ensemble cast is really good. I used to rewatch the previous seasons in between seasons because everyone plays off each other so well.
Nathan was being pretty rough on her according to what I’ve seen on YT. Who knows though. I loved that show but was upset that he was not good to her.
To be honest, I thought it was Fillion acting opposite a brick wall. He brought all of the charisma and believability to the on screen relationship. It was nothing like say, Fillion and Baccarin acting together.
Wellll, I have to disagree. There was obviously some animosity toward the end. The last 3 seasons were not as captivating as the first of the show. Personally, after watching so many multiple season shows, they go on way too long. Far past the ability to write fresh content, tired and bored acting, and disinterested audience. They should end the series while things are still on the up.
PS ...the ending of Castle was pathetic. It was an insult to the audience.
He looks 10 years younger and so much healthier in the new show than he did on Castle
Actually, he now looks haggard, gaunt. He looks similar to Charlie Sheen when he was on crack.
Agreed.
Stress ages folks like nothing else.
No he doesn’t. 😂
he looks good but he definitely aged
I love that he has Alan Tudyk as a friend, and their discovery that Alan waited on him at the burrito place is awesome.
Kinda want a joke about it, like Alan came up to me and asked if I was all and if I needed anything? So I said I'll have my usual but I'll have a diet pepsi this time... Then they look at each other 😯|😯 it's you.
Well even though not what I expected to hear, and whatever happened between main casts was a pity, I really want to see Castle and Beckett together again. At the end of the day, they're still the biggest couple living in my heart.
I think the word on the street was the co-star who played Beckett wasn't getting as much or close enough money compared to the star Nathan Fillion so that caused stress coming from her.
The characters died in the series finale not sure how they would make that happen.
@@alader0786 oh I think they still have 3 kids after seven years. But it's a slight chance to reboot them though.
@@julieevans2124 umm they legit died lol
@@alader0786 hmm no, they married and had kids
I loved him in Castle, it was such a great serie til season 6. Then it dropped vertically in quality, just like The Mentalist. I'm happy to see that he had help not to get crushed under the pressure of carrying an entire serie for 8 whole seasons.
They really should have ended the show at 6, or 7 at the latest...I've rewatched the show so many times but I just can't be bothered with the last seasons since it's so bad.....
I actually liked the FBI era of The Mentalist. I can't say I liked it better than the Red John years because they were so different and I hated the love-triangle in FBI years (I really wish writers learned how to create drama without love triangles or jealousy) but they were both fun.
You all keep trying to dig for something that Stana nor Nathan wants to talk about. Despite all the rumors it's very possible that they reconciled and made apologies after the show ended and decided not to talk about it in the media. Sometimes you work with people and you don't get along. Adults forgive and move on. They both had plenty of opportunities to bury each other, the showrunners, & the studio but they've chosen to take the high road. Let them take the high road. Everything doesn't need to be exposed especially if it can be worked out behind closed doors. If they can look back fondly on their time on Castle then we as fans just need to move on and stop expecting or demanding that they do otherwise.
It’s also very possible that they didn’t and want nothing to do with each other and are simply staying professional.
@@therealmistahjay Which is the more likely scenario considering both are very cagey when it comes to talking Castle. There's been plenty of other shows with feuds on set that get exposed by the people involved because they buried the hatchet already
There are a lot of stories of the leads of shows having falling outs just from being around each other so often and things getting complicated. The stuff you hear about Castle actually remind me a lot of what you heard from the X-Files. Apparently by the end they couldn't stand even being around each other but have since made up and said that it was nothing either one of them actually did. So I'm not going to judge or make assumptions unless they come out and say something specifically happened.
I want the juicy details damnit. I deserve it.
I'm not sure the explanation needs to be any more juicy than what they've already told us. They were coworkers for nearly a decade on a show that ran an intensive schedule. Nobody is going to be their best under those circumstances and the person most likely to get your worst will be the one right there, being overworked, with you.
Everything Nathan stars in is magical. He's great in The Rookie as well.
Castle (seasons 1 to 7 because the disaster that was season 8 didn’t exist to me), was one of the best shows on television history. Absolutely amazing. They did miss the mark because they could’ve easily had a Ryan and Esposito spin-off. That would’ve been awesome.
Castle ends at season 7 for me. I have only watched season 8 once.
I agree with you. The last episode left me soooo confused. Did they die , or did they live ? I was sooo disappointed. And yes the spin off would have been a great ideal!
@@zimt2863 no they didn’t die. They show them 7 years in the future.
There was no Season 8. Much like there is no war in Ba Sing Se and no season 2 of the Promised Neverland.
Im so done with these trash that keep saying season 8 was a disaster. It has a lot of great episodes, only a few which not that good. Bunch of haters can only parroting others because some people call it bad. And no, it's not bad season. It even has more good than bad. Bunch of trash viewers, really.
Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk being such great friends always brings a smile to my face
Im not surprised that Castle was hard and stressful. The dialogue was so fast and there was like a hundred scenes in one episode
I never really thought about how many times they changed locations in one episode either. Totally different than Bones that could pull it off with less locations and some never leaving the full set.
It makes me smile to know that he and Alan are still friends. I've met both of them, at different conventions, got to talk to Alan for a while in the middle of the day since nobody was around. They're similar in a lot of ways, both were very nice and down to earth, no hint of the "celebrity ego" you get with some Hollywood types.
I wish Firefly could have been his big break out hit, it as such a good show. I enjoyed Castle too, was happy for him that it became so popular and lasted a while. Whatever drama there was off screen never showed up on screen.
Tudyk was awesome as Elroy on The Rookie. It was like a reunion in a different dimension and the chemistry was there.
Alan Tudyk is a national treasure. Hands down one of the nicest celebs to meet at a convention, especially compared to some I've met in the past who I wish I hadn't at that rate.
I've never had the pleasure of meeting Nathan Fillion, but Alan Tudyk is a sweetheart.
one of my favorite shows ever. Stana / Beckett - castle / Nathan is probably my favorite movie or tv show relationship ever. It truly makes me happy watching them together, whether they get along in real life or not, they’re magic on the screen. Truly wish the best for both actors in real life, I have watched castle at least 7 times all the way through & I love it. Thanks for contributing to giving me that pleasure. Sad they didn’t get along in real life but they were consummate professionals on screen. Wish I could tell them how much I loved their characters
I always wondered if they purposely got catty with each other to force the end of the show. From what I understand no one wanted to be there by the end.
@@witecatj6007 still made an epic show that def did good things for their careers. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you typa thing but not liking your coworkers is still a pain in the ass. I respect them a lot for not making it obvious, I finished the show without knowing they didn’t get along. Then watched it again knowing this & it kinda changed the way I saw it. On a whole different thing Stana is so gorgeous my god
I also love these characters, their humor and complicity I miss a lot, I have difficulty left the series, I am very nostalgic...
I don’t even know if these rumors are true because literally not a soul on set has ever talked bad about Nathan, at least in the public eye. As keep in mind, the articles claiming Nathan and Stana didn’t get along, claimed he bullied her on set for multiple seasons and was an ass to work with.
I absolutely LOOOOOVE NATHAN FILLION!! Every single part he’s ever played he’s sooo much fun to watch. He really lets me just fkng chill and laugh. He always provides the escape every tv and movie lover looks for. 😎
My grandma got me into Castle, great show. Nathan is awesome in everything he’s in.
You know they were friends, sometimes friends fight, hurt one another. We can all find each other in such situations. The question is is can you find it in your heart to apologize and forgive. Any friendship worthwhile is something to fight for no matter the situation.
I absolutely loved the show castle. Nathan is brilliant
Hello dear 👋
I love everything he's been in... Firefly is the best, of course. Currently binge watching The Rookie and I am absolutely in love with the show... and love the guest appearances of Firefly co-stars like Alan Tudyk and Sean Maher.
Nathan is, by far, one of my favorite people. Not just as an actor but as a person. Always seems pleasant and down to earth.
I first saw him in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer tv series. He was incredible as the villain. Caleb was it.
Then I discovered him in Firefly, Castle and now The Rookie. Top actor.
He had a reoccurring guest spot on Modern Family's later seasons as well.
If you play games, he's also Buck in the Halo series, as well as Cayde-6 in the Destiny series
He was also on one life to live
Same, I remember him popping Xander's eyeball and then getting sliced in half from the balls up over with mega axe!
@@jackmeyer9722 Loved him as Cayde-6 in Destiny.
I just love hearing his voice, just iconic.
I love how he mentioned Allan. I met him in person once and he is just such a happy fun guy.
We are currently watching the entire show (all seasons). Really nice way to end the day. We will be sad when we get to the end.
Castle is my favourite show ever, watch every month.
I was so bummed when castle ended, loved it & love the books, Nathan you rock love ys in the Rookie too

I saw him in a bar downtown Vancouver back in the 90’s & he was so nice & wave by to me when he left the club. Canadian 🇨🇦 proud
Nathan Fillion is the best, so natural and kind. Love your work buddy. :)
I really enjoyed Castle as a show. The final season was annoying and Stana Katic's character just deteriorated to my frustration. Always lying. But the actress was great.
Nathan still looks roughly the same as he always has. It took two or three looks before I recognized either Michael or Tom, especially Tom. I did not realize how long it's been since Smallville was on the air!
Hello dear 👋
Great to listen to him as a host, knowing the job of the actor he's interviewing
💕 Both Alan & Nathan!
I remember meeting Nathan at a bar in Glendale, tavern on brand, he was their with a group of people. And all I wanted to say was... you're amazing and love him in Castle. And he goes and starts a conversation with me. It was amazing and then he goes let's take a picture and give me your email lol...never got it
Yeah, I heard that too, but it was 10+ years ago. I don’t hear it anymore. I used to be an internet Nathan hunter, read everything. But I’ve totally backed away from Hollywood and their “I know better than you, pee-on” attitude.
Hello dear 👋
You are a great actor Nathan and the rest of the cast great series 👌♥️
Hello dear 👋
I loved Castle so much, I actually just bought season 6 and 7 to add to my collection and will hopefully soon add the last one. I hope they are in good condition when they arrive
loved that Nathan had 3 great shows.
Loved castle was amazing and great to watch
Firefly was one of the best sci fi series ever
This was always one of my top shows on TV still is. If its on I'm for sure watching it. Priority tv!
Great seeing Michael and Nathan
Alan Tudyk is an absolute gem. He is absolutely brilliant.
Been a fan of his since he was on one life to live. It was clear when he was on that crappy soap opera that he was going to be a breakout star! Everything he did with Whedon was pure gold!
I just geek seeing Nathan and hearing him talk
Talkville... with Rosenbaum, and Welling ... YAY! I am down for that! :)
I watched both Firefly and Castle, not because they were Shakespeare... Nathan Fillion has a natural charm that never seems disingenuous. He's always a fun character to visit for an hour.
Hello dear 👋
I was a huge Castle fan. Especially Beckett, she was gorgeous as hell😬
I'm watching the whole thing on Disney Plus in Australia and really enjoying it. I love the interaction with the whole cast. like they are one big family. I don't know what went on behind the scenes but on camera, it all just works. I look forward to seeing all the seasons.
Castle, Smallville and Impastor were my favorite shows
I have started watching this series it is so good and Nathan is so funny in it great actor and great chemistry with the Actress who plays his wife recommend it to watch 👌👏♥️

I love his acting. In Buffy, serenity, firefly and castle.I watched all of them,he was terrific.
Keep forgetting how much that guy gave us. The wife hated me drooling over buffy , but liked Serenity and Castle LUCKY for me!!!!🤣
Nathan will always be my leading man from blast from the past to FIREFLY to castle to that Uncharted short film done years ago (I completely forgot the year)
Hello dear 👋
I wonder whether Nathan would return to Castle for perhaps some special Movie length features, that would pretty epic.....
Before or after Castle and Becket had the kids shown in the closing scene?
Seems like such a great guy and many people talk about how great he is to work with which makes Stana being miserable and unhappy working with him in the later seasons of Castle such a mystery.
I think they said it was because she wasn't making the same or close enough money compared to Fillion is what I heard, which caused her to be resentful/stressful.
@@RossMalagarie
I heard it was more of a personal issue...some sources say it was unplanned romance that ended badly, others say it was intense personal dislike that manifested itself off-screen only, as their on-screen chemistry was almost always spot-on.
@@gershman23 if that was the case then it’s actually wild how they managed to have so much chemistry on screen

Well, it's not unheard of in TV and movies.
I'm referring to the 2nd of my two rumors...if it was the 1st, that's borderline miraculous.
@@RossMalagarie Yes I believe that as well. It is quite obscene some of the money these actors make but it always the actress who makes less. I am unable to think who could have replaced Stana as she was sooo good! She is married to an Aussie bloke.
Love Nathan!! The cast in Castle was spot on. Was already missing Castle when ended.
Hello dear 👋
Yay! Talkville!
He should play as Nate from uncharted I saw em do it in a short film and he was perfect
That ship has sailed. Unfortunately.
You're years behind the discussion.
I wanted him to do it as well, but Sony was stubborn and kept dragging its feet on the project. When people said Nathan Fillion was too old and then suggested Mark Wahlberg, I laughed and said he was the same age... and look what happened: Mark Wahlberg aged out and end up playing Sully instead (and unfortunately for us, he played Sully like all of his other "tough guy" roles).
Nathan Fillion would have at least been able to pull off and provide that sarcastic funny charm to the role of Nathan Drake.
It’s too late for him to play em even though he was the fan’s choice. And he was done for it, that’s why they’d did the fan short film. Same thing with him playing Hal Jordan
I think they should’ve gotten him to play his brother in uncharted 4 instead of Troy baker
@@suttercane6 I don't know maybe we can still do something like that ya never know
Castle deserves a better series finale.
Michael's rocking a Hartford Whalers shirt! Excellent!
Now I need to rewatch Firefly, Serenity, and Castle.
nathan should come back to sci fi shows! he was great!
Nathan played the voice of an alien octopus on Alan's show "Resident Alien."
I can see where Alan Tudyk would be someone to talk to. Ii seems that the actors who are wild n crazy characters on screen, are the ones that are down to earth off screen.
Have you ever done an episode talking about or had anyone on from Poolhall Junkies, I loved that film. Great episode by the way big fan of Nathan.
I’m am fairly indifferent to Nathan Fillion and the only thing I’ve seen him in was Firefly, which I watched solely for Alan Tudyk. However, I am so envious that he has Alan as a buddy. He just seems like the best guy.
I loved Castle 😃
Nathan knows the secret. Happy is a choice 💖
I LOVE CASTLE AND STILL WATCH RE RUNS
Nathan Fillion is a treasure!
Short version..... be late season 2 he and Stanna were IRL dating and scripts were tight, by season 4 it was over and things were starting to get really bitter between them. In season 5 you can see the writers trying to keep them apart by paring Caste with Ryan and Espo more and more. By 6 it's really bad but scripts are still good enough to paper over a lot of the issues. Season 7 on it all goes to hell and they can't even stand being in the same room together.
While Nathan and Stanna are both super nice people the tension was too much especially after the OG writer bailed.
I was hoping to hear him address the rumors of the the not happy work place, between him and Katic. I've read so many conflicting things.
I heard all that too, so I did an extensive Google search. No matter how hard I tried I found one anonymous comment which wasn't even verified by stana.I don't I don't think his entire public persona needs to be defined by that comment.
Great interview
Love him ❤️
Miss you Cayde!
I’m not the only one
Everyone needs an Alan Tudyk in their life.
Cancelling firefly ranks amoung the top bone head plays of all time. I did love the episode of castle when he dressed as capn mal and everyone was like “who you supposed to be?” And hes like “im a space cowboy, obviously.”
Nathan in one of the few actors i love
Considering you asked Sophia Bush about Chad Michael Murray, you really should've asked Nathan about the rumours with him and Stana not getting on. Its still a dark cloud on the series to this day and kinda needs clearing up
There's a real interesting story there, one with many different perspectives and takes. I'd like to hear them all, one day. But chances of hearing even one cast member's perspective is near zero.
@@Binkley-rj6gf it was pretty simple.. she was jealous she was not making as much money as him.. and of course, nowadays you know how it goes... just whine and cry about patriarchy and misogyny and there you go.. but she seemed to forget the show was called Castle and not Beckett...

That's what I was wondering. Most of us (i guess) work 5 days a week, 8-10 hrs. But you might be right, that it is even more intense and crazy schedule + learning lines etc. between shooting.
@@jakubzachnik1070
Very tiring
Theres also the feeling of not feeling productive if you have to keep redoing scenes. That and having to keep doing the same movements over abd over again can be very stressful. I would hate 12 hrs of that a day
I was an extra on a movie and those were 12 hour days for us. For the actors is is probably closer to 14 depending on the film and amount of makeup and other items that need to be handled before and after the shoot.
At least they're paid right... and over
He was also Hal Jordan in several Green Lantern animated movies.
Brandon Frazer punching him in Blast from the Past is Golden
Please ask the question we all want to know. When will we see the two guys , a girl and a pizza place reunion?
As someone who has worked 6 days a week unloading trucks for very little money, it’s always hilarious to hear actors talk about how hard and tiring their “work” is.
I loved Nathan Fillion in White Noise 2. I bought that movie and liked it better than part 1.
Love you Nathan 🥰
Hello dear 👋
I feel like the last 3 seasons of Castle behind the scenes were slowly becoming almost similar to the stressful/low pay environment on the 1993 Power Rangers show. They had a lot of problems that many people didn't know about
The producers of Castle didn't give Stana what she wanted and simply screwed her over (alongside Tamala Jones). Still, Nathan in my view could have done more to salvaged things but again I don't have all the facts to back it up. So like everyone else, I feel both sides played a role that doom the show.
I can only imagine how stressful working 5-6days a week was for the writers and actors to sell the lines. Keeping the fires of the creative part of the brain stoked can be mentally draining. I’m sure the rest of the staff had their own challenges too. I’m not saying any of their jobs were as physically or mentally draining I’m sure some of the staff and writers were pulling 60-80hr work weeks. If my net worth was 10-20M$ for acting I would wake up going woo hoo! As well😂
Yeah, no. It's very hard to play the woe is me but when you know that millions have way harder jobs and every single parent is more stressed working 2-3 jobs it doesn't really resonate.
I've worked on enough TV series and movies that it's hard to feel much more then an 'awww, that sucks.'
I remembered him on One life to live soap.
Reilly liked Firefly & Serenity & Castle, like your Hartford Whalers t shirt
How do you get through it? You realize people are out there working the same schedule of back breaking work, you again, realize how lucky you are, and you keep it pushing

Of course but you don't have to pretend to be a different person 5/6 days a week for years... I think you are smart enough to understand it's just stressful and they need therapy to do it without losing their real personality 🤷♀️
