- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Nathan Fillion treads lightly when discussing a Firefly reboot in the works #insideofyou #firefly - ZĂĄbava
The worst mistake in movies in the last few years was not making Nathan Fillion Natahn Drake. I know right!
There's a youtube video with him as Drake and Stephen Lang as Sully
Agreed
Or Green Lantern.
Nathan Fillion would have brought the fans out 1000%. Rotten Tomatoes would have exploded from ratings. Why do they keep passing on this man?!?
I watched that little fan film he was in and ya your right he did an amazing job
I will forever hold a grudge towards Fox for airing the episodes out of order.
unforgivable
Same!
Some guy at fox clearly didn't want this show and did his bet to make it fail.
Hmm I never heard of that. I recently just watched firefly for the first time and loved it. What order should I watch it in?
@@cburke1923 most available streaming platforms have the intended order. Fox had the Train Job as the first episode instead of the double episode Serenity, so you had no backstory; they left 3 episodes unaired, etc.
First watched Firefly in early 2005, fortunately before Serenity. Re-watch every year, sometimes twice.
Show like this'll be with you 'til the day you die.
I'm an old man. My wife knew I was a "Space Baby". Hell, I was born when the Russians launched Sputnik. ALL shows, that have anything to do with space, are my top picks. Seen 'em all.
BUT,... when I was late to "Firefly", I felt horrible. I watched it in syndication and loved it immediately. Joss is a brilliant man. The casting was a stroke of genius.
My wife bought me the DVD collectors' Edition, and found "Serenity" for me.
A yearly binge is my story.
Firefly is still one of my favorite shows. Itâs tied with Star Trek: The Next Generation for all-time favorite.
I watched it in 2005 after I returned home from my second tour in Iraq, and unfortunately the show had already been canceled by the time I saw it, but it was still an amazing first viewing for an amazing show.

Same here, I was stationed overseas in Japan in the Navy, I came home on leave and my brothers were like you have to watch this show. By then it was already cancelled but I fell in love with it instantly. I was active duty Navy '99-06.
@@Rocky-or4rz Hey there, my brother from another military-branch mother. Yeah, when I got back they were rerunning the show like crazy. Iâm pretty sure when I finally saw my first episode, it was during a marathon where they played the entire series back-to-back. I remember it playing on the Syfy Channel, but I could be wrong because that seems really fast for a network (FOX) to hand it over to another network (Syfy) so quickly.
I'm rewatching Firefly now. It really holds up. Like *really* holds up.
It would if only the transphobic, racist and sexist humor weren't so pronouced, it would not be so outdated.

Agreed the show was great and the theme song was as well. I cannot think of a single bad thing to say about this show and cast.
Oh you Klansman you!
I loved every gorram episode of the show and the movie was a shiny chef's kiss. I'd really really want to see the crew of the Serenity together again and you can say many things about Joss Whedon but one thing is unquestionable. The dude knows his craft.
no wash tho he was super important for the chemistry of the show
Yeah it's important to separate the art from the artist. Joss may be a douchebag egomaniac, but he is incredibly talented and produced 3 of the best shows of the past 20-odd years.
@@obscure.reference just pretend the movie didn't happen
It would be tough to revisit the Serenity without Shepard Book, though. RIP Ron Glass.
@@hottakes9242 people arbitrarily defend Depp because he's a heart throb still for some people, and express things like "let's kill that cum guzzler, I wouldn't even piss on her if she was on fire" etc, but everybody throws Joss under the bus for even looser allegations than Depp received without even questioning it for a second. I love Nathan Fillion. He is an excellent actor and from what I've heard, a great person (my aunt met him). I was introduced to him in Firefly. I fell in love with Firefly. It is my favourite show, to this day. I actually just started introducing a friend to it yesterday, probably why this popped up in my feed!
Anyway, I watched The Rookie and Castle because of him. They are great shows and I am a fan of them too. That's probably why he can't tell anymore, because people aren't a fan of him in just one thing.
I was hoping for more Firefly cast appearances on Castle, though. When Nathan went into that bedroom and Gina was in the bed with "someone," there HAS TO BE a blooper somewhere of Alan popping out from under the covers! Haha!
Probably fell in love with his ass in the last episode of firefly . Ruined a decent series
Firefly was great and Castle (up till kidnapping/marriage) magic. Rookie? Itâs ok.

My big lottery win dream - I would fund an entire season of Firefly (NOT REBOOT) and Stargate. And maybe if we made enough money on those fund a Farscape comeback as well. I'm talking the 200+ million lotto jackpots.
I agree with this 1 MILLION PERCENT!
Hands down. I would do them almost in that order. Firefly, Farscape and then Stargate.
Sounds good to me. We all make sure they are done right đ
I've honestly thought about being rich enough to just fund random people who have a interesting movie script and the drive to do it. Imagine being that rich you go around making that possible for people. It would be fun as hell to a billionaire.
@@love-ip7sz that would be awesome! And those people would likely do it much better than the lazy writers in Hollywood!
Nathan Fillion is such an unsung hero. Anyone who Played Halo or Destiny knows who Nathan is and having played both games and loved Firefly loves Nathan...

Firefly and Serenity are some of the best things I've seen in my life
Lol Iâll watch anything that has Nathan Fillion in it, such a great dude.
Never seen an episode of Castle but re-watched Firefly so many times, lost count. Let's bring it back.
Nathan Fillion is honestly Joss Whedon's best shot at redeeming himself and his reputation in the eyes of the public. Such is the power of The Cap'n.
I like Nathan but Joss would need way more than Nathan to vouch for him. Joss would also need way more time away from all this before he gets another chance. I wouldn't want to see a Firefly reboot without Joss (not that I care for the man). I just think its would already be an uphill battle to capture some of what was great about the show and then have a different show runner would be make it near impossible.
Nathan should steer well clear of that toxic waste dump⊠would be a bad career move to attempt to help Joss rehabilitate his image.
@@katet3648 I agree!
I've never seen Firefly so I cannot argue about the quality of that show, but Buffy and Angel were plainly crappy, specially in a production/directing point of view, I've been always amazed how both shows managed to get such high recognition.
@@epbmetal7399 IMHO Firefly/Serenity was the one truly great thing Joss did. Buffy/Angel had moments of brilliance, but I thought they were overrated and tended to take themselves too seriously. (Although I will always love the Smile Time episode of Angel. But I think that's because of Ben Edlund, not Joss.) Yes, I know he directed the first two Avengers movies, IMHO they're vastly overrated as well.
It's easy for people to think garbage is great if you can get them to relate emotionally. Look at Twilight.
If I could wish for a parallel universe with just one little difference from ours, it would definitely be one where Firefly wouldn't have been cancelled.
And boy, what a shock as Cain suddenly appeared on the screen!
Itâs years later, Zoe and Washâs kid is grown up, Simon and Kallie have a kid too, River is somewhat ânormalâ. Jayne is still Jayne.
Nah, that's too tidy. Simon and Kaylee need to have not worked out but still have feelings. Zoe and Wash can't have kids because it would distract from the show too much and add an unnecessary new character that muddles things. It should be Simon having left the ship and becoming a bit less fancy from having to work a hard job in seclusion for years to hide his sister. Inara is off the ship living somewhere in a major planet, but still keeps in touch. River is still River. Jayne left the ship to go work a surprisingly lucrative position, maybe even become the mayor of an outback town. So it's just Zoe, Wash, the Captain and Kaylee running the ship. But something happens that forces them to all get back together, maybe involving the government getting near finding River again.
Clearly someone didn't see Serenity... Wash isn't around anymore đ
@@aprildawnsunshine4326 Theyâre talking about a reboot, not a continuation. Besides, itâs still possible the Zoe got pregnant before Wash died.
@@appo9357 that's possible and I'd love to see Mal dealing with that bc you know that baby would have him totally whipped đ but sounds like you're talking about a continuation too and tbh I'm not sure fans would react well to a reboot as it'd include too many rewrites of the characters and idk about everyone but I certainly don't want a one of them to change
@@aprildawnsunshine4326 Looking back, I can see how I couldâve worded my original post differently. I definitely agree Mal would be wrapped around the kidâs finger.

Having watched FIREFLY for the first time recently, I would love to see Nathan and Joss Whedon work together again. Can't say what did or didn't happen, but whether people like it or not, Whedon is a good writer. If anything, I'm amazed JUSTICE LEAGUE (2017) turned out half as good as it did.
Should never have been dropped. Ridiculous decision. I know nothing of the controversy he touched on but I loved that show. A brilliant combination of science fiction, action, comedy, heart and spirit. They canât take the sky from me!!!
Nathan looks great !! Let's Do It !!!
"You can't take The Sky from me ..."
Great interview. Nathan Filion is a class actor, turned to gold whatever he touched.
Not in my world. He is a mediocre actor at best who thinks only of himself.
I can't believe Nathan Fillion said something here that I've been saying for years. That Firefly ended before it had a chance to become bad.
I remember hearing someone say "Firefly didn't last long enough to have its Angel season 4." I always thought that was funny.
I thought it was already bad from the start.
I mean, It was also aired out of order entirely. It's not that it ended before it had a chance to become bad, it was literally railroaded by the station right from the gate.
The first episode that aired wasn't even the actual pilot episode, but one of the later ones towards the end, if I recall correctly. the higher ups DID NOT WANT it to succeed.

Love this series †reboot it please xxxx
WTF Talkville!? That's a great idea. Did not expect it, but I love it.
Firefly was butchered by the studio (the pilot episode did not make much sense until you've seen the whole show), so I was not surprised when it was canceled. I was also pissed off and sad because it had a sort of swashbuckling vibe of the original Battlestar Galactica, which completely blew my mind when I was 7 to be able to see on TV a space opera that resembled Star Wars. That was the time before VCR to put things in perspective for the kids who grew up with streaming.
Anyway Michael, I love and respect how you can pose a hard question but leave an opening for the guest to answer in any way he feels comfortable. That's a classy move.
Timed really well as I was thinking about doing a complete SV rewatch myself in a few weeks! xD
If there were to be a film I would love it if it were "FireFly: Final Flight" Haveing it be the end result of an animated series or something to build the story for newer viewers.
loved the show! movie was AMAZING
Nathan Fillion is one of the most under rated/ and under utilized actors in Hollywood. I always wished he could have taken over Star Gate. As a continuation after the original cast. He would of been an amazing team leader to take that franchise further on. Maybe we will see him in the new Warhammer 40K with Henry Cavil. That would blow my mind honestly.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to get a DVD signed at New York City comicon years ago. Itâs a copy of saving private Ryan, signed as the wrong Private Ryan - Nathan Fillion
It sits in a display case
Love that he doesn't pander and is honest that he'd work with Joss again... he knows more about him than we ever will and what really goes on.
I've watched a bunch of scifi, and I can honestly say Firefly was the oddest "sci-fi" show I have ever seen. It's like a western in space with Asian elements, which is how I try and explain it to people who haven't watched. It also has such an endearing charm to it that makes it easily re-watchable. The humor is great! It will forever be known as the number one show that was cancelled WELL before it's time. Such a shame! I really loved it.
It's somewhat cowboy bebop live action.

I've literally watch this series at least 20 times....at least 5 times with my wife. Now we both miss it :(
Nathan is one of my favorite actors. Castle was a good series.
Castle was a great series because of Stana Katic, not Nathan Fillion
No I'm pretty sure it was Nathan that made it great they could have used any pretty girl to play the female cop
Firefly Forever. Yes it broke my heart.
Good for Nathan Fillion speaking honesty about how he felt, including another human being a work in progress. We ALL are, and although some actions don't deserve immediate forgiveness (let's not generalize too much), if a human can truly embrace change and be a better person than he/she/they were previously, we should offer forgiveness and support. If we don't, WHEN IT'S FAIRLY WARRANTED, we only hurt humanity's growth, as a whole. XO
Are you kidding me? Obviously you don't have a clue that Nathan Fillion because of his inflated ego, jealousy of Stana Katic, and selfish power grab practically single-handedly ruined the best procedural on network television - Castle. Or as I call it, Caskett.
Zookate I agree with you â€ïž
Firefly is one of those shows I've watched more then twice... thrice... qua... you get the point. It still holds up.

I love Nathan saying that's not my experience and I'm not gonna lie.
Yeah, the Joss we keep hearing about isnât the same experience the Firefly crew had with him. Alan Tudyk also said something similar
@@talynstarburst2l2l2l I could say a lot but if I'm just being honest. I don't believe the actors and actresses insinuating he was a Weinstein. Joss is accused of essentially being mean and that is not a crime certainly not for a director, who's trying to prove himself, deliver a product and working with a very young cast. While trying to deliver a standard. Plus all this seemed very convenient timing, for actresses that no one's seen on screen for a while. Good timing if you wanna get noticed and maybe a job. That's just in Joss's defence. Not too mention as fan of Buffy and all his stuff for years, seeing the behind the scenes all the gushing they do about Joss and now all of a sudden he's horrible doesn't make sense. He also always tried to get his actors and actresses work. Then it didn't work out they now are turning on him. Thankfully Anthony Head, James Masters, Alan Tudik and Nathan Fillion are just saying that's not our experience but more importantly Anthony Head basically said it was bullshit. He actually said on UK tv over here "Where was I when all this was happening I never seen any of that. We all had fun, it was great. This is very sad. I mean Joss was always very kind but he was the director and boss he was under pressure and of course he had to shout, and you know tell us off sometimes. When we weren't listening or playing around. But he's a genius and I'd work with him in a heartbeat again".
@@fullcomicalchemist2195 oh man, that warms my heart about Anthony Head. Thanks for sharing that bit! Yeah.. I think actors get too much attention these days when they play the victim. I think Jossâ biggest mistake was trying to takeover for Zack on JLA.. it wasnât his hand picked cast and his first script, and I think the actors gave him a hard time from the beginning. I think Joss is a genius too.. and maybe he doesnât know how to manage those who are difficult to work with, so Iâm sure there are moments that didnât come off right. But for the most part, he did his best and made some beautiful content. Itâs sad to see so many throw him under the bus, but my respect to those who actually stands up such as the names you listed off.
â@@talynstarburst2l2l2l I'm glad I could inform you. Your right there's too much crying wolf these days and people believing it, instead of waiting to hear what actually happened. Plus he was honest about the JLA cast apart from Affleck none of them can act. Scarlet even said if it wasn't for Joss Black Widow just would've been a background character in Avengers Assemble. Also when you look at things old directors got away with, the way Stanley Kubrick verbally and emotionally abused Shelly she would appear scared and terrified on camera, the way William Freidkin shot guns off on the set of the exorcist to keep th cast frightened. But never mind that Joss said some mean words. Honestly.
@@fullcomicalchemist2195 exactly! Itâs such a dog eat dog world out there, and especially in Hollywood. My feel is that Joss was always a nice guy who had his moments like any other human being.. and he became an easy target to throw under the bus. I noticed that it has been the more mature experienced actors who never had anything to say against him. I think that is why Firefly worked out so well for him.. by the time he created this show, he was more selective on who he cast on the roles. Itâs unfortunate that it was so short lived.
Some more Firefly would be amazing!

Although Joss Whedon created the show, a reboot could be very capably run by original series showrunner, Tim Minear.
@Stephen Schneider Sometimes itâs good not to say mean things. Firefly was simultaneously behind and ahead of its own time, so it sort of fell through the cracks where it remained relatively unnoticed until streaming platforms started popping up. And that was truly an unfortunate shame.
Dude, Serenity came out in 2005, before most streaming services were even started. CZcams only started earlier that same year. You think streaming services are the reason it was greenlit, and why Firefly became so popular?
@@sfreemanoh From all the rubbish back-room executive stuff that came out about the production of Firefly, it *almost* seemed like it was greenlit, mucked around with by randomly scheduling and re-arranging the episodes, then cancelled by a network boss, just to teach Joss Whedon a lesson in humility to network executives.
@@sfreemanoh The Firefly television series aired in Fox's "graveyard slot" in a time when DVRs were not yet widely available, streaming services and video-on-demand programming options were simply non-existent. The series run was directly limited to those who either knew the show was airing so they watched it at the time of broadcast, recorded it via VHS cassette to view later, or they missed the episode(s) altogether; ergo, falling through the cracks. Streaming only serves to bolster penetration of an untapped audience thus potentially growing the fan base even further since the series' broadcast run. My comment has nothing to do with Universal Pictures' attempted cash grab film, Serenity, which was an ironic title choice for the film given that it was the television series' pilot title three years prior.
one of my favorite actors is nathan fillion, i would have loved him as nathan drake.
the ultimate compromise, my guess would be, is to have Tim Minear run the Firefly reboot if it were to exist. He is one of the best Mutant Enemy writers and he would do it justice, and he's been with Firefly since the beginning. Joss could get a consulting producer position, so his hand would be in it, but he wouldn't be the boss of the show. Joss should never be in charge of anything ever again; it has been shown that it is not safe for him to be an employer.
Most of the good stuff Joss gets credit for was actually Tim Minear.
@@FleshGolem420 him, or Jane Espenson.
We don't want a reboot.. We want continuation after episode 14

Great shirt, reppin the Whalers đ I will forever love everything Whedon has made, no ones perfect, accept people for flaws, dont ignore or forget them, but let people try to change or improve.
