Nathan Fillion talks about the stress and bad coping he went through while shooting Castle.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Nathan Fillion (Castle, The Rookie) returns to the show this week to reflect back on tenured success across multiple serieses like Castle and The Rookie, along with cult adoration in Firefly and Serenity, leading us to discuss what’s next and what the escape plan is once his run in Hollywood is done. Nathan shares his secret for positivity in life and his freedom of being in a position to say no rather than taking roles out of need. We also talk about how adversity brings out one’s true colors, rumors of Firefly reboots, and his experience swimming with sharks.

Castle early days were unadulterated genius...The writing, the delivery, the casting, the plots...And it was capped by Castle/ Becket chemistry that reminded people of Bogart and Bacall...no part of that production wasn't top notch.

One thing that people need to remember is that unlike many ensemble dramas, Nathan was in almost every scene in each episode in the early seasons. I grew up in Hollywood and my father was involved in the filmmaking process. Actors are very spoiled and as you can see they think working 5 days a week is tremendously stressful when they get paid insane amounts of money for their time, can stop working and enjoy their lives whenever they want to, and pick and choose projects with downtime in between. Not to mention they have people that can do or get them anything they want even when they're on set. They are very lucky

They both had plenty of opportunities to bury each other, the showrunners, & the studio but they've chosen to take the high road. Let them take the high road. In season 5 you can see the writers trying to keep them apart by paring Caste with Ryan and Espo more and more. By 6 it's really bad but scripts are still good enough to paper over a lot of the issues. Season 7 on it all goes to hell and they can't even stand being in the same room together.

The producers of Castle didn't give Stana what she wanted and simply screwed her over (alongside Tamala Jones). Still, Nathan in my view could have done more to salvaged things but again I don't have all the facts to back it up. So like everyone else, I feel both sides played a role that doom the show.

I forgot the catch phrase for describing it but, when you have shows with the two leads that are of opposite sexes, the energy can easily starts out and stay fresh and spontaneous but when they start 'dating', it becomes repetitive and stagnant and border line recyclable, case in point from other shows like Moonlighting, Who's the Boss, Bones, and Weeds. And to know that they tried to have one last season without Becket is like trying to get milk from a cow that you know has been dead for a couple of days ago, yes it's drinkable but it will leave a very bad after taste in your mouth for decades to come.

The main Problem I heard was that they could only show the lead actors for a few scenes together starting with Season 5 or 6 because of the problems they had. It would explain a lot of what happened later in the show.

@@al28854 I totally disagree with this. I know people think if your leads get together the show is «doomed», but Castle was really good after they got together too. When the showrunners changed and they added unnecessary drama I found that the show began declining.

As someone who has worked 6 days a week unloading trucks for very little money, it’s always hilarious to hear actors talk about how hard and tiring their “work” is.

Personally I really liked The Rookie for two seasons. Then there were cast changes, and a decision to play up the "comedic" aspects of the characters. At that point the show just got silly and lost any sense of reality.
