Recently my parents moved to a retirement facility and my dad had a cool Marantz receiver. I asked him about it....I nearly died when he told me he gave it to Goodwill. As a kid I used to sit if front of my uncles entire glass encased system and listen to Aerosmith Rocks on Koss headphones in the the '70's. I loved looking at the VU meters.

What memories..back in the day I had a Pioneer tuner (with the heavy weighted dial knob), Crown amp , Akai reel to reel , Marantz equalizer , Imsai cassette deck , KLH tower speakers and to top it off..a Pioneer single motor/direct drive turn table with the best diamond Ortofon stylus..what fun times I had listening to all my vynils...and cassettes.

They are still capable of producing good quality sound. Which is good for cutting electronics scraps.

I'm facing a gorgeous 1972-vintage Pioneer SX-828 receiver on eBay for $330 USD ("works great"), all lights work, panel, tuning needle light, etc. Immaculate. One owner, kept in a cabinet for 30+ years. Only 1 slight chip on back top corner of wooden side panel, that's it. Only problem is: it's 1972-vintage. That means electrolytic caps are done (despite it "working great" - doubtless all caps are way out of spec/tolerance)... & who knows how many transistors, diodes and power resistors are soon to follow. The SX-828 also has a tragic design flaw somewhere in the power supply (never corrected...no "updated" or revision models): a resistor in the regulator circuit is prone to frying and burning the PCB. Always lusted after this unit since I was a 13 year old kid...now here it is, I can easily buy it, and I'm like, "no way...don't need the heartache." I don't want it just as a museum piece, collecting dust.

Trev0r98 as long as you have a service center near you to bench test it & able to do repairs in the future, I say go for it if it makes you happy. That's how I do my shopping 👌🎼✨

If you get a chance to Minneapolis... go to Audio Perfection. I have lived from East to West Coast... Audio Perfection has some serious equipment.
