- This was an interview with Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of the Oklahoma City band The Flaming Lips. It was shot in a practice room at the School of Music at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK five days before the release of The Soft Bulletin.

drozd is such a huge talent
Such a great musician
In the 2006 book “Staring at Sound” someone in the crew, or management, or a friend … whoever it was they were involved enough to answer the question:
Q: What is Wayne’s best asset?
A: Steven.
This interview is an example of exactly why I Love this band...amazing..
Wayne is brilliant and Steven Drozd is genius.
I listen to FL and collect their albums since the middle 90's. Great band !!!
Evolution isn't necessarily a progression...Amen to that brother!
The Flaming Lips a case in point.
I love this. Not even knowing they're about to drop one of the greatest albums ever. I'm my humble opinion, at least. It's definitely deeper Wayne. It's not about animals and jelly. Drozd knows.
I miss these guys :(
The first person to get a straight answer out of Wayne should get a gold star.
Or a one word answer 🤣
20:00 Little did they know that Yoshimi awaited them!
Ichin' in a sexy way his beard.
Clouds Taste Metallic and The Soft Bulletin are both genius.
Maybe it's because they look alike, but I think it would be awesome to get Wayne and Anthony Bourdain together have them chat over a beer or two.
:(
I've always thought they had some of the same speaking qualities too ... maybe because both can tell a good story.
Hey I posted a link to your interview on my Song of the Week Blog on wordpress, where I talked about the song Do You Realise?? Thanks for sharing...
this dudes always been feetoearth real dudes thatwhat ilike bout them, they know that allthe show they putup is the way to show the record and performit , atbthe thats what msuic buissis
He looks like he would be working at Long John Silver.
On My B-Day :)
17:18 yes
"...jump us up to Melrose Place..."
I think they still make interesting music and I hope the continue to evolve. Does anyone have any suggestions for bands to listen to that are psychedelic rock with experimental guitar sounds?
Cyborg Rabbit King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
I liked Wayne a lot more prior to beard phase.
Listen to Foxygen. Take the Kids Off Broadway and Kill Art are really weird, creative EPs. Lots of influence from the Stones, Pink Floyd, Unicorn, other classic rock acts, but much more adventurous than most of them.
I liked this cynical, based version of Wayne.
I saw them in 2001 and then this year, they're music has gotten better, but boy has wayne gotten fucken weird.
If by "better" you mean "way worse"
How? He seems the same to me.
@@hurkamur1 nah.
Wayne is crazy n yet it all makes sense ,:-0
Did anyone else think that Wayne kept talking over Steven and even when Steven played Waiting For Superman Wayne was aggravating the whole scene. So strange, never noticed it before, but it seems like Wayne's personality was really overbearing Steven's personality, in a harsh way.
