In April 2003 my husband got me a brand new cherry red Pontiac Grand Am w/ram air (whatever that is), dual exhaust, leather seats, sunroof etc etc....in the four years I had that car , it was hit FIVE times. The only one that wasn’t my;our fault was when my husband was driving and a deer collided with the right front of my car. It was rear ended THREE times!!! The worst was when in 5 o’clock traffic, people in the right hand turn lane left an opening for a girl driving a brand new Chevy Colorado to pull out and turn left. I was coming straight, I had the green light.....she pulled out in front of me....I t-boned her. Both of my air bags deployed....talk about smell!!! Airbag broke a bracelet off of my wrist, couldn’t find my cell phone, the guts of my car were scattered on the roadway. She has an unrestrained passenger in the middle of the front seat, who hit the rear view mirror with such force it broke the mirror from the windshield and left a gash in her forehead. I was lucky....some burns from the air bags, bad bruises that developed over several days where my seatbelt & shoulder strap were. And aches and pains that developed for days. The original estimate on my car was just over $8,000; but when I finally got my car back over 10:weeks later the estimate had risen to just under $11,000. Her insurance company refused to total it. So when we go to court before I even have my car back.....the judge gives her a $78 fine for failure to yield!?!?!?!?!? What the....!?!?!!?! He didn’t even ask me any questions or let me speak!!!! So long story....longer....I WILL NOT let anyone cross in front of me to cross and turn to the left. After that experience, I gain get all of the dirty looks, name calling....you name it! Been there done that don’t have the T-shirt. I’ve seen accidents happen the same way many many times since . Not gonna do it, don’t care if you’re my vest friend or my worst enemy, I ain’t gonna do it!

I the many years since my accident, there have been many nice/kind/thoughtful drivers who want to allow me to turn left in front of them to make my turn. I will acknowledge them and give a polite shake of my head, a bit of a wave and a kind of / sort of a wave of the hand that sat “thanks, I appreciate it, but no thanks “, if they continue...I continue what I was doing but with more “enthusiasm”--until they shake their head in disbelief, look at me like I have three heads and they move on. I KNOW what I experienced in the past they do not, so they can wave, shake their head, think I’m an idiot......but that’s ok, I need to maintain my level o sanity while driving lm😊🤪💜👍🏼

@ oh boy, right my dad is a paramedic, and one of the last things you wanna do is just “reach” towards someone’s broken bone, most of the time they will pull away. if she really wanted to help, you sit the person down, cool them down, not try to be a hero
@@ther3act645 for real first thing you do and are trained to do when responding is check for hazards and ask victims consent if they would like help (as a first aid trained responder as a paramedic I have different rules and paths i can go down but none the less we still checl. Treat for shock! And in a case like this with no really bad looking bleeding , rest ice compression and elevation if her hand still has circulation (test using a capillery refill check) better to just try and keep them calm and wait for properly trained personel.
I love when stuff like this happens, everyone comes out of the wood work to help. Like this retired nurse person who's helping her hand rest. Love this.

God the sound in her voice. That kind of “calm panic”. Exactly how I was when I broke my arm. I broke both bones in my left arm completely through falling off my horse. Awful awful feeling when you know you have a bad injury like that.

What a fun time it was with my blood dripping everywhere out of my hand and pulling the broken pieces out of my jeep (and it was -20f outside and nowhere to take shelter besides my car that wasn't warm) while the other people made up a story and got the cop to believe it was my fault and so my insurance paid for them

Reminds me of the trip I was on with my older sisters' family and my younger sisters' family. We were on the interstate in Alabama going down to Gulf Shores. When a SUV four cars in front of us started going sideways before rolling four times. Everyone stopped and my niece who was12 at the time yelling at me," you're a fireman go help them." No matter where I'm going, I always bring my trauma medical fire rescue bag with me. So, I jumped out as my younger sister was on the phone with 911. Looked at my older sister telling her, "You're a nurse so come on." I along with my older sister and about ten others helped them that day. It felt good in helping someone even if I was on vacation.
