- Did I find the Achilles heal of the DJI Pocket 3? It's good for everything but this. Photography Q&A. Why I never talk about Nikon ZF or Z6 III. Testing this Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4 lens on all my cameras BMPCC 4k, OG, Nikon Z30, Canon R8 and Sony A7S III with the Zeiss 55mm f1.8.

the A7siii is not a budget option Kasey, that thing costs a ton of cash, add a lens or two and it’s two tons of cash… and so the search for the perfect camera continues..
Plus, it's a lot of money for a camera where you have to grade every shot.
When did I say it was budget? ZVE1 is basically the same thing for less money.

all my life i have had this one thing that when I listen to it, it brings me calm and takes me away from the troubles of the world. when i was a kid it used to be Tintin audio books, then for the past 8 years it was the Peter Schiff podcast but eventually I got tired of that broken clock, and now it is Camera Conspiracies. whether my mind is worried about war, or the health of a loved one, or my videos not having enough 3D pop, I can always just put on any random episode of Camera Conspiracies and it all goes away (except the 3D pop worry, which gets worse)
Half the time I don't know what you are talking about, but I still can't stop watching. What I do recognize is wanting to test out new gear, I have the same. Even you have the perfect camera you still can't help looking around for something better. I don't do video but I have the same test bug. And 3-d pop, yeah I get that too. Skin tones, yep that too, IMO Canon and Oly are the best, the further away from these 2 the stranger it gets. When I see grass on Sony it looks like plastic.
I like your personal sharing about your inspiration and lifestyle. I think that's why I love listening to you, despite not being able to afford any new YT camera after my Canon M50 broke. We are creatives going solo! Rock on.
I love how you've mastered the art of the clickbait title, then we get roped into a mini therapy session. 😂Jk man, what you do is always great, and it's remarkably more genuine and human than just about 100% of the other channels in this space that are out there. Could you have had 3x the subscribers if you were more of a sell out? Probably. But would it be worth it? I say no. Never change 🙏🏻
For my studio setup I use Pocket 3 as my primary front camera and Fuji X-H2 for close-ups/b-roll. Pocket 3 is more than enough. But it took me awhile to nail the exposure and color grading. Color checker card was soooooo helpful for that.

Nikon Z30 with 2 -DJI Pocket 3, one set up for studio, one for walk and talk vlog, Nikon with a zoom lens for video nature! Perfection!
It really does seem to be pretty much ideal.
Z30 has no viewfinder though.. Still, I'm actually thinking about getting it for nature videos!

@@koma2000music I have the d3200, trying to sell it now. For my z30 I have the 16-50mm kit lens and the 24mm 1.7 lens. I use the 24mm for studio videos because I like blurry background. I can achieve it on the kit lens if I’m far away enough from my background.

You're doing god's work Sir , the only camera gear channel I watch with any regularity anymore. Did watch a few Pocket 3 reviews but waited for yours before I would even consider it. All manufacturers need to send all their gear to your snowed in apt. If you start a petition, we'll all sign it in a heart beat along with a few possibly fake electors, then march on to Henry's. (probably getting my news and memes mixed up here)
I'm very fond of the 6400 sigma 16 set up, super sharp and pleasing to the eye, no matter the pp and grade.

Beauty mode is a Philip K Dick level cyber nightmare. But for context, I had a Dutch photographer friend when I live in Thailand. He would shoot a lot of weddings. He told me the most common request from the brides was to whiten their skin, smooth it out, whiten their teeth, brighten the eyes, saturate the lips, add some glow.
He would try to follow their request. Send his updates. They would reply, "not enough". He would add a little bit more. "Not enough". Little more. "Not enough".
The final resultant image looked quite similar to the beauty mode. He showed me some before/afters where the bride finally found the image acceptable. It was disturbing to say the least. He hated having his name attached to these cartoonish faces.
The a6400 footage looks so good because of the Sigma lens.

As much I am not a fan of third party lenses, I cannot deny the sharpness of my Sigma 16mm. It's has very snappy auto focus, quiet, and sharp as a tack. I love that lens. Zeiss 55 1.8 beats it, of course, but that lens beat everything IMHO. Great video. Great content!
You haven't been paying attention. "Third party" lens manufacturers have been leading the industry in the last ten years. OEM manufacturers have been catching up.

The A7S III slayed all the others today. OTOH your lighting changed quite a bit. I presume it's the window. The darker background looks way better.

Om-5 with Oly 17mm F1.8 is nice for the studio .. although it's almost F4 equivalent in terms of toneh-ture so not everyone will be happy about it :D

"...they suck..." LOL! You are correct, the XF56mm f1.2 is better. The problem with those who know more about lenses is that most of them have long, boring videos with brick walls. They are hard to watch. I do read Ken Rockwell's reviews sometimes. I especially used him when researching vintage lenses. But, I prefer someone like you, Roman Fox, Omar Gonzalez for reviews that are more real world in nature. The A7SIII was a revolution, especially in terms of AF-C. But, what you're really searching for is something as small as the X3000 that has been improved. Something small, light, good colors and great slo mo! BTW, I think that ZFC footage looked to overly sharp. Have a rockin' day!

It's fine for studio use, very good I'd say. Plenty of examples out there of people using it for this purpose on CZcams.

I replaced my Fuji 16mm 1.4 with the 18mm 1.4 based on many glowing reviews … autofocus quieter and much faster, but the character of the old 16mm is gone and I don’t think it’s as sharp either. The 33 1.4 is fire 🔥 though
I still use my Sony A6400 with the Sigma 16. How have things gotten worse and more expensive in the last 5 years?! I’ll just keep what I have!

I'd love to try grading your BMPCC 4K material. I think you could do much more with it to make it look more appealing.
maybe a pocket3 in some LOG mode and some color grading would beat a pocket3 for studio use, as you don't need crazy dynamic range in this scenario?

I swear it...imma do a low light/indoors test with the Dji Pocket3. My videos look sexy when I avoid using the lowlight mode. DP3 seems to think our world is brighter than it actually appears. (I'm an idiot comedian who uses the DP3 for recording sets in dim to shit lit bars... mostly automatic but limiting to iso 800 with a -1.0 EV)
Can’t get more resolution than a mirror, I just carry a small hand mirror around and vlog into that.
I was thinking for a long time to switch to BMPCC but manual focus kept me from pulling the trigger.. And to be honest it's a deal breaker at this point.. You are out of focus and it's just too much hastle to pay attention to set the focus right.. That's a big disadvantage even tho there is so many benefits..
Could the Blackmagic micro studio camera 4k g2 be the best choice for talking head or even vlogging given its compact size despite having no screen. Also how would it compete with Nikon ZF. Great videos keep up the good work👍

Standard picture profile on a Sony a6400 with sigma lens, without any of your luts, color correction, no messing with sharpness and you get a perfect picture! So basically everything that you do on your camera degrades the quality of your video. Do a factory reset, and stop touching any setting!
What in the "Toddlers and Tiaras" is going on with that beauty filter. I was working on my left screen and looked over to the right and nearly fell of my chair... that is horrifying. How did that pass any sort of QA...

Photographers are like Dyson vacuums.. They cost a fortune, they run for about 60 mins, And always need their battery charged. Doesn't mean if 5 of them asked for help I'd say no.

In my country A7III is lately sold for less than 1k USD, and if you buy it as company expense you pay ~750USD at the end ... of course talking about new with 2 years of warranty.
