I'm so grateful for you and some other youtubers who put out incredible knowledge from all kinds of stuff, for free. Thank you, really!

When you are sprinting at top speed your focus should be vertical force so I think it's better to wear a light weighted vest for top speed work. And sleds are better for acceleration.
I think a limitation of sleds is the force depends a lot on friction, if you're on slippery grass, or a track it's going to require different amounts of forces to move the sled. And from your initial start the static friction and dynamic friction will be different. So it's not actually as simple as just putting x% of your body weight on.

I'm still going back through the catalogue of past videos and enjoying them. I'm glad there are new ones to enjoy too! I can't hardly wait to see what's next!

Love the videos, very unique presentation and well thought out and logical information. I’ve been focusing almost exclusively on lunges for lower body strength based on your info and have noticed significant progress in explosive speed and power

I personally never go beyond 30% bodyweight, and never go beyond 25m with sled pulls. If the sled is too heavy, you're just teaching your body to move slow. This is not to mention the amount of time it takes to produce enough force to move a heavy weight sled. (A long time)
As far as distance, sleds are best used for acceleration. Top speed is primarily about vertical force production. If you really needed top speed resistance, I prefer a hill or maybe a 50m sprint while wearing a 5kg weighted vest.
But honestly for top speed, in-out sprints (change of effort), flying sprints, and overspeed sprinting are all better ways of improving your top end speed than a sled.

Exergenie (or similar apparatus) is better than free weights, only because that "jerk" response doesn't seem to transfer when using. In my experience.

I have noticed that when i use sleds during my warmup , I can have a great sprint start, I feel like it works best for me as pre potensiation. My muscles feel like they are firing at a high level and can switch it on. Plus wearing a 4kg vest helps me get the bounce of the track. Adding to that, I would only do 2-3 20m sled pulls and a 2x20m flying sprint with a 4kg vest . It just feels like it works for me well in my warmup before a blistering fast speed workout or even when competing .

Hey Essop, once again brilliant work, so glad your posting more frequently again. I/we really appreciate all the effort you put in to make your videos fun and informative . I Would love it if you could do a review of Knees over toes guy. What do you think of his recommendations, in particular nordic hamstring curls for sprinting? Also could you consider doing a series on lateral movement, I'm sure those of us that play sports would love to hear ya preach/testify on other movement patterns.

So basically you don’t really believe in 🛷 sled resistance training for speed?

Research indicates that sled training is highly beneficial for beginners and not so much for developed athletes. However, Bolt and Blake both pulled very heavy sleds as part of their program, so... 🤷🏻‍♂️

There is a big "top name" athlete on the female side who had probably some of the worst acceleration but the best top end speed in her game. So she was usually dusted to 50/60m, but then she turned on the jets. Between season she was doing sled work like a football player, now her starts and acceleration are more near the front of the pack than the back. Plus her stride is more effortless and thoughtless than it was before.

Whats then the best for start and acceleration?

What do you think of using sleds for post potentiation activation. What I’ve done in my personal training was 20 lbs for 36m for 3 reps. Then 10 lbs for 2 reps. Then an unweighted sprint. For reference I’m 130 lbs. I feel it has helped me to run faster. But maybe that was just improving my sprint mechanics and not speed.

So what your saying is that Louis simmons and Westside Barbell are wrong about using the sled to make athletes faster? To make more power in the posterior chain to get a bigger hamstrings in some cases a 60/40 split hamstring to quad power? Plus when they added sumo pulls and box squats to the proper weight time and distance pulled . None of their hundreds of elite athletes NFL hockey, rugby Olympic runners distance runners basketball, baseball mma wrestling None of them got faster? Plus it's decades old knowledge that you don't run with a sled . Do you teach runners how to push out of starting blocks? Or start pushing off the ground when they take off for good old fashioned foot race? Just asking all these question thanks
