    This Doctor REACTS video is starting to look at the first season of Sex Education. I've split this video into two parts and it includes a lot of really useful information on sex education, sex therapy, sex and mental illness and LGBTQ+ health and queer representation. Also Gillian Anderson is EVERYTHING!

    That was a great quote "your fear does not help me" - I get that parents of Lgbt people might be scared for them, but so often they put that fear onto their children as if it is the childrens' fault instead of doing everything in their parental power to make their children feel loved and protected at least in their own home. The message should be> Even if the whole world is against you, I will still be there for you. And I think that is all that most lgbt people actually want or need from their parents and parental figures.

    Yes! More please!. I grew up in the most conservative part of Texas in the 80s. To say sex education was lacking is an understatement. But thanks to supportive parenting, I grew up to be a supportive one as well with my own kiddos. I have been blessed that my trans teen felt comfortable to come out to me. I just love your channel. We need more psychiatrist like you!

    Mikael Persbrandt (Jacob Nyman in the show) has been a sex symbol in Sweden for a very long time. He's most famous for playing Gunwald Larsson, the emotional, steely eyed partner to the detective Martin Beck in 30 very well known Nordic Noir films about the pair. Beck is based on a popular book series from the 60s by Maj Söwall and Per Wahlöö.

    Not really related to the psychiatry of the video, but I love Mikael Persbrandt. I like that since he's Swedish, when he speaks (or swears/yells in) Swedish it is actual Swedish that makes sense. Often skandinavian people are played by Americans (or Brits) and what they say makes no sense, it was fun to have an actual Swedish actor cast

    Role models are so important. I really relate to needing to see that something is possible and how difficult it was to not see true representation when growing up. I’m not religious, but “who are you not to love yourself” is one of my favorite quotes from this show.

    I can’t get over the utter shock of seeing Persbrandt play a character that is not angry nor super angry.

    Is it bad if I laughed when she said "scrotal anxiety?" One of my first thoughts was, "Maybe we should rule out that he doesn't have an itchy rash first."

    7:00 I'm not a fan of "if you can't love yourself, how can you love someone else." Or other similar messages. I think that you can love and be loved, while you learn to love yourself. Hopefully this isn't long term, but with therapy and a loving partner, you can learn to love yourself.

    • @randomname24680
      @randomname24680 Před 9 měsíci +5

      Same. I don't want anyone to believe they are not worthy of someone else's love or of a healthy relationship because of their own self depreciating habits.

    • @MidnightEkaki
      @MidnightEkaki Před 9 měsíci +2

      i think theres a good message in it, because its a reminder that relationships are about you as much as they are the other person. but yeah its totally possible to love someone else without loving yourself and learning to love yourself is a process not necessarily a destination

    Adam and his father had the most growth as characters. The other characters are always fighting and kept fighting. Always off and on. But Adam and his father, who in the begining were very antagonistic and could be called bullies, became less so. They became some of the least toxic characters in the series.
    I was so tired that in almost every time, the characters in Sex Education kept on fighting and yelling at each other in every season. Every time there was growth, they go back. Adam and his father were a breath of fresh air in the series

    I promise that we’re all pretty dependent. The problem is when you find yourself saying thing like what I did yesterday “I would never recommend going to [my university] because the physics department is underfunded and overstretched, and a lot of the professors just don’t care about students’ wellbeing or needs. Many of them use the excuse that they don’t have gender-neutral pronouns in their language, which is bullshit because I speak their language and they do.”
    “Well, I thought your head of department was different-“
    “Dr. [first name] is a good man, but he is too personally, emotionally, and monetarily stretched thin to take on any more students. I honestly spend all my time when I’m there trying to make his life run smoother. If I was up to me, I would have reworked the entire curriculum of the department so he wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore.”
    I’m a graduate student. This man is in his fifties. He can protect himself. The hyperempathy is so much…

    I had never seen the show before, and before that character got assaulted, I literally was looking at her and said “what a beautiful woman”.. I can’t understand why some people have so much hate in their heart., and I really hope we can find a way to combat against all of these horrible laws that are being put into place and I hope that one day, as the laws eventually allowed people to live life with their own sexuality, hopefully, one day the laws will let people just live in their own gender identity as well

      If you’re talking about the attack in this video, Ncuti’s character is cis/gay, he actually was just dressed up as a character from a movie :)) “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”!
      But the immediate rejection of his implied gender/sexuality from his dress in fear of the attack is still heartbreaking, this show explores gender and sexuality in both its cis/trans and lgbt/hetero characters with equally as much care, highly recommend if you get the chance!!

      @@sp0ngeb00b7 oh wow! Poor guy, I thought he was just saying that in an attempt to be left alone :(. But you’re right, it absolutely does show that they would’ve done the exact same thing to an actual trans woman and someone who is questioning their own gender identity and has friends who are trans, knowing that people like this actually exist, and seeing all of the horrible laws that are trying to be passed against trans people right now makes me physically sick and actually hurts me.. I appreciate your reply and I would definitely love to check out the show when I get the chance❤
