@@matthewmyatt2625 well, the original team Lotus got pissed off because Malaysian mogul who bought caterham brands (which was lotus' subsidiary )in the 90s, made an entirely new f1 entry with the name "Lotus" in 2010, stating it wasnt part of the deal when caterham was sold.
Things getting worse when it became apparent the team was far off the pace and became a perennial backmarker for two years straight. Tainting the rich legacy of Lotus name in F1. So the original Lotus guys bought Renault f1 team (which Renault happily accept because they were sort of in financial crisis). And entering the 2012 as "Lotus Renault" while forcing the malaysian "Team Lotus" outfit to change name to Caterham mid season.
Kimi happened to be in then ex-renault lotus'.
