The cut to the slide into barriers in Germany 2019 was vicious - and got me right in the feels. When the defining moments of your career are those, where you lost the podium, it's tough. On the upside, he's also a role model for remaining stoic in the face of adversity. He's still there, still having fun, taking the wins he can. I believe he's always had challenges, as his sponsors are good, but not on the level of the more prolific pay drivers, while his skill is demonstrably solid, but he never got those career-making standout performances. Regarding his age: I feel like he has matured and keeps maturing significantly, while not losing his speed. The main drawback he has to face, is his lack of marketability and sponsorship - German drivers in general are struggling in that department lately, as F1 is growing more profitable in other regions. His past lack of standout-moments also doesn't help.
Was never a close supporter of Hulkenburg but can’t help but root for him. His story is somehow made infinitely worse being booted for Pastor Maldonado :’)
Wow I had no idea how good he really is. I. A new F1 fan, due to Drive to Survive, and always thought he had something in him. It was so tough with those years at Renault. Thanks for the video. Did you or can you create more of these? I think and hope he ends up at Aston Martin.
In my opinion the whole generation of drivers that came between 2010-2014 were very unlucky like Riccardo, Hulk, Kmag, Perez, Bottas all of them had really good talent and some of them most likely would have won a championship but unfortunately they came when the sport was being dominated by vetrans and now that it over new talent is coming like a force and they are too old to stay on their level
Perez and Bottas had their chance driving dominant cars and failed and Ricciardo ran away and got into trouble by himself. Alonso and Hamilton prove that age has nothing to do with it. Hamilton was Bottas' team mate and is older. They were unlucky to encounter better drivers. That's all.
There’s a reason the fair weight rule was introduced. Hulk was losing up to 4 tenths a lap to Perez whilst they were teammates due to the heavy hybrids and lack of minimum weight increase. Perez, one of the smallest with Hulk the tallest, Sergio could use an extra 16kg of movable floor ballast to help with setup and tyre life. Despite this, Nico easily out qualified him and even finished ahead in the races more often when both cars finished. Incredible.
How many podiums did Nico score compared to Perez. How many points did he get on Sunday compared to Nico? That’s what counts not how how much Nico weighs vs Perez. What youre basically saying don’t sign Bico cause he is too tall and weighs too much.
@@Yahniboy”don’t sign Nico because he weights too much” that’s exactly why Ferrari didn’t sign him for 2014. Nico adapted to the new regs of 2014 very well and out performed and out scored Perez that season. There’s a lot of articles explaining how the taller drivers were at a great disadvantage because of the introduction of the heavy hybrids at the start of 2014 due to the fact the minimum weight wasn’t increased enough. For 2015, teams had reduced the weight of their cars further but that only made the situation worse for the heavier drivers as the lighter drivers had more movable ballast to use on the floor to get them to reach minimum weight. The taller drivers didn’t have this benefit. We see Nico struggled more in 2015 and 2016 compared to Perez and the weight difference between the two drivers was the most extreme on the grid. 2017 the regs changed again and minimum weight was increased which really helped and then in 2019 the fair weight rule was finally introduced.

That's true. The height was kinda a drawback but not so much. I think it was more of a timing issue for Hulk. I think he was Mercedes first choice in 2017 when Rosberg retired, but the call was so late that by that time he had already signed a multi year contract with Renault. Even Merc tried to negotiate with Renault to release him but that didn't work. It was just bad timing.
It's difficult though, the top 5 teams are miles ahead in terms of pace compared to the bottom 5 teams. Unless someone from top teams get knocked out in race, there's not much chance for the midfielders to finish in the top 10.

Sergio Fan here, I followed him along 2018 and 2019, realized of how talented he was/is as the best of the rest, nevertheless we know from the sport and all elite athletes that something that goes along with each successful driver is luck. He had superb drives, but ultimately more catastrophic results of his own or team mistakes. I think his career is overlooked though can’t say that Ricciardo earning a Podium before him in Renault was probably the cherry on top to understand maybe, the Hulk could be a great driver but he doesn’t have what a future champion has. Guts, insight. Like look at Alonso’s career (even though he had winning cars), Vettels (fellow German, extremely talented to achieve a WIN with a Toro Rosso even before Red Bull). I think other young talents deserve an opportunity even when he left, I was ok with his decision. his return just makes want to wish him the best but his prime, if there ever was in F1, is long gone. Another sweet/sour story from the sport.
Even more info ... Hulkenberg crew up close to the German Dutch border. Drove allot in Eefde the Netherlands. Has a dutch girl an speaks dutch. Zo along he has allot of dutch fans.
he's the modern day Fisichella. Fisichella did eventually get a top drive with Renault but was beyond his peak by then. The Hulk's never even had that!
I’d love to see him in winning car. Just never really had his chance. I remember when he came into F1 he was like the next big thing. I’d love to see him in the Mercedes or Aston.
I've long been a fan of Hulkenberg. I never understood why he didn't get a seat at a McClaren or Red Bull. He's very good & consistent. He's one of those guys that can take a marginal car and get more out of it than expected. Also, he won Le Mans; that's enough for me there.
That year Hulk was nervous because he realized that the team didn't want him anymore. Such a pity. And Ricciardo took advantage of it with those stupid jokes.
similar driver and career to Heidfeld. he's miles ahead in ability compared to the pay drivers, but missing the last few percent of the really top tier drivers who manage to break out of his type of situation. there's other drivers like him who have managed to break out into a decent seat for a couple of years, but for that you need a lot of luck and to be in the right place at the right time which he just didn't have
It would be so interesting to have an event every season where all the drivers do a hot lap on a very balanced track in the same, very balanced car, just to see what happens when you neutralize things and leave it all down to the driver. Still wouldn’t be a perfect experiment as different drivers have different vehicle characteristic preferences… But it would be interesting still. Considering how many teams Niko has been on, and how many times he’s hopped into a seat last minute, it’s always felt like he does an above average job of extracting whatever he can out of the car he’s in. Meanwhile you have Riccardo and Hamilton miles away from their teammates the second they’re in less than perfect cars. I’d bet Nico in either today’s RB or Mercedes would out perform those guys respectively.
I think he’s one of those drivers that just suffered from timing. Every top team had the drivers they wanted. Only possible shifts might have been either partnered with vettel, either at red bull or Ferrari, or at Mercedes after rosberg left. Both those teams though went with a true secondary second class citizen driver. Bottas and Raikonnen never really challenged their teammates, and the teams def appreciated that.
Caught up on nico , kinda supported my suspicions of him as a driver.. he has been lucky to get that seat but the verdict is still so out if he'll retain it ... I think he has faded the same DR has and will face the same fate just a little later than DR will...
Clearly not lucky , he’s clearly the best of the two in the team more than half the time, it’ll be him and bear man next year, if he stays in haas. But Audi really want stains and hulkenberg in 2026 so we shall see. He faded a little but you can’t deny he was done so dirty so many times in his career, what a waste of his prime and young years , but he stilled showed that he’s fast
@@cadelepski5161 Where is GP winner Maldonado now? Oh yes. Gone instantly as soon as he lost the PDVSA sponsorship. 😐 While Nico is still there, with a career entirely built on talent and without anyone's help.
@@cadelepski5161 Exactly but in a positive way. Unfortunately he has not achieved significant results in F1, despite this, he is there precisely because of his talent.
@@KroneVanguard "he has not achieved significant results in F1, despite this, he is there precisely because of his talent." Are you even reading what you're writing?
Just a driver with never any luck on his side. Merecedes wanted him for 2013, if their ultra-ambitious aim of getting Lewis Hamilton didn't work (and it logically shouldn't have - the rest is history). Ferrari nearly signed him in 2014, but his height/weight was always a worry due to the then regulations. c]CCombined with the fact that Lotus nearly went bankrupt so had to offload Kimi Raikkonnen, so Ferrari saw that as the safer option (def the wrong option in the end, because Kimi's performances fell off a cliff after 2013). He was then dropped for nationality reasons for Esteban Ocon, who hasn't imo proven to be better than Hulkenberg in the 4 years since.
bad luck can only explain so much. His team mates got podiums in the same cars, so his record of most races without a podium is a bad one for himself. Talented yes, but most F1 guys are talented. Not enough to fully deliver hence he was never picked up by anyone
They had the closest average qualifying gap though , out of all teammates that year, Nico definitely didn’t help himself with Germany though. But the standings don’t show how close those two actually were. Danny also got way more favoured strategy, to justify him staying lol
It is true that Kevin finished in points more than Hulk. But Nico finished ahead of Kevin in more races. It's a bit tricky to compare this stat to be honest cause the car was terrible in race and it was usually the case of who is in better strategy. I compared the quali and overall race finish positions to determine that Nico was better last season. Again, I won't say like Kevin drove poorly cause in 2022, he drove brilliantly when the car was a bit more competitive. I think this season would give us a much clearer picture between them as the Haas seem pretty decent in the midfield.
Could you please do a video highlighting how bad Ricciardo is and why on earth he still has a seat after being booted from Renault and Mclaren ,this driver left Red Bull for what reason ?

Guts, insight. Like look at Alonso’s career (even though he had winning cars), Vettels (fellow German, extremely talented to achieve a WIN with a Toro Rosso even before Red Bull). I think other young talents deserve an opportunity even when he left, I was ok with his decision. his return just makes want to wish him the best but his prime, if there ever was in F1, is long gone. Another sweet/sour story from the sport.
i’m ur 900th subscriber!
Great to have you here💙
It would be cool to see him in a top three team for a couple seasons
Would love to see him in a Red Bull. Even if for just 2025. Give the man a fighting chance for at least one win before he retires.
I remember the end of 2019 when NIco didnt get a seat for 2020 whilst being one of the top 10 drivers in my Opinion. That really hurt.
Boy, he's really unfortunate, even not a single podium
Nico, we love you!! Seriouly, we the knowledgeable fans want to see Nico UUUUUUUULKENBEEEEEERG on a competitive car!!
Even more info ...
Hulkenberg crew up close to the German Dutch border. Drove allot in Eefde the Netherlands. Has a dutch girl an speaks dutch. Zo along he has allot of dutch fans.
Thanks for the correction 👍
Nico and Albon are the 2 racers I really want a race win for!!
he's the modern day Fisichella. Fisichella did eventually get a top drive with Renault but was beyond his peak by then. The Hulk's never even had that!
Excellent video! Greetings from Germany :)
Thanks
Great video, good editing of top footage!
Thanks
F1 needs more teams. Too many good drivers with no rides.
I didn't expect the dated 90s glasses in the thumbnail
great video! keep them coming 💪💪💪
Thanks
1:50 that's me lol, got my name on the rear wing 😂
How did that happen? 😂
It seems so tough he never got to show what he could do, he's doing well in Haas right now but it's far from his clear potential
Would have been nice to see him at RB instead of Checo.
Great video!
Thanks
I’d love to see him in winning car. Just never really had his chance. I remember when he came into F1 he was like the next big thing. I’d love to see him in the Mercedes or Aston.
You do have to wonder (especially given he's German) if he is under consideration for the Merc seat.
Underrated channel
I heard guenther on an interview get asked about who should be in the merc next year and he said hulk.
As a German i want nico sitting in a top tier car soo much..
I've long been a fan of Hulkenberg. I never understood why he didn't get a seat at a McClaren or Red Bull. He's very good & consistent. He's one of those guys that can take a marginal car and get more out of it than expected. Also, he won Le Mans; that's enough for me there.
Maybe because there is no team called McClaren! 😂
when watching the netflix show and seeing how riccardo was making jokes constantly to hulkenberg it really hurt my soul
True. I really felt the pain when the kids ask the Hulk how many races he's won😭
If Alonso retires I would love to see the hulk in the aston martin
give him the seat at aston martin and i bet you they can be a competitor for second place in the championship
I hope he somehow can manage to get a WC Title.. but sadly i think its over for him
There is a good chance that he might go with Audi in 2026, but yeah, the wc chances are very slim now
World Champion????
Are you feeling ok? A long time driver with NO results EVER ??
He was held out of f1 in order to get PASTOR MALDONADO?💀 i think that’s the wrongest thing of all time
You mean GP winner, Maldonado?
@@cadelepski5161 Where is GP winner Maldonado now? Oh yes. Gone instantly as soon as he lost the PDVSA sponsorship. 😐 While Nico is still there, with a career entirely built on talent and without anyone's help.
@@KroneVanguard I think 14 years and over 200 starts with not a single podium, tells you just how much talent that is.
@@cadelepski5161 Exactly but in a positive way. Unfortunately he has not achieved significant results in F1, despite this, he is there precisely because of his talent.
@@KroneVanguard "he has not achieved significant results in F1, despite this, he is there precisely because of his talent."
Are you even reading what you're writing?
If Aston Martin had been a serious team, it would have fielded Aloso and Hulk who was already in the team.
I've always believed from the very start Hulk has the talent to be a multiple world champion
fun fact: if hamilton had declined his mercedes offer for2013, they would have gone for hulk instead
He will get a podium in Baku this year btw.
That would be simply lovely
That explains the Q3 mastermind
aw little perez at 1:31
bad luck can only explain so much. His team mates got podiums in the same cars, so his record of most races without a podium is a bad one for himself. Talented yes, but most F1 guys are talented. Not enough to fully deliver hence he was never picked up by anyone
A driver in the lost generation 2009-2013
It would have been so great if Red Bull Racing had opted for Hulk instead of Perez.
Damon Hill argues that Hülkenberg's height scared away the top teams.
Maldonardo instead of Hulkenburg for 2012. Is it any surprise this kind of decision making sunk Williams?
2024 could be Hulkenberg's final season in F1 since, his seat in Haas F1, is under threat from Oliver Bearman and Frederik Vesti.
Nah Audi are adamant they want him, and sainz for 2026
lets not forget he was out shined by Riccardo when they were at Renault. .. and look at Riccardo now.
They had the closest average qualifying gap though , out of all teammates that year, Nico definitely didn’t help himself with Germany though. But the standings don’t show how close those two actually were. Danny also got way more favoured strategy, to justify him staying lol
Starting his F1 career with Williams effectively killed any chance he might have had to drive for a top team.
To be fair, Kevin was in the points more times than Hulkenberg last year. Kevin had much better racepace in the 2023 season.
Kevin was only in the points by one more race… Nico had the most standout performance though in the sprint race in Austria
Could you please do a video highlighting how bad Ricciardo is and why on earth he still has a seat after being booted from Renault and Mclaren ,this driver left Red Bull for what reason ?
I've always liked Nico, honestly nothing would give me bigger joy than seeing him get a podium. I wish he'd replace Perez at Red Bull
Bro in the thumbnail looks like lewis Robinson from Meet The Robinsons
So accurate🤣
His stock went down when he got beat by Perez while they were teammates
Favorite German in sports
So, the reason Nico did not get a second season in Williams needed Maldornado's oil money? What a shame for all concerned.
I think his manager could've done something to change the situation.
Well, that's how the sport works sometimes
