BACKGROUND
My classmates and myself made this film during our studies at Sydney Film School in Australia. I’ve always been torn between enjoying solitude and at the same time not wanting to be alone, and that’s what I wanted to make this film about. I decided on the post-apocalyptic setting in part for my love of dystopian/end of the world stories and also because I wanted to see if we with limited means would be able to create a world usually reserved for Hollywood productions. We live in a world where anyone can make a film yet a lot of people still seem to think you need a certain budget, certain equipment or a big crew to make a “proper” film. We shot this film on a consumer budget camera and almost half of it was shot with a skeleton crew of three. Initially there was some scepticism about the achievability of the film but that only made us more determined. It proved to be a huge challenge and at times I wasn’t sure if we would pull it off, but I think it’s important to aim a bit too high - it forces you to be better. I’m very proud of the end result and I’m so happy to share this film with you. I hope you enjoy it!

This was fucking amazing, it’s unbelievable how you managed to make it look so surreal with the empty streets and the hollow lonely buildings. The actor was superb in showing genuine emotion throughout and my god Shane I love you. Story is well played and doesn’t drag for a second, probably the nest short film I’ve seen on CZcams. 10/10
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so glad you liked it! =)
Wow. I would have never guessed that this is a student film. It's got just the right amount of feels, drama, and scenery. Congratulations!
I about shit myself too.... production value beats a lot of the crap hollywood is putting out.... dude could give the star trek people writing, story, DP, and set design lessons
I usually pass over short Scfi films that use the term, "Post Apocalyptic" in the description since they always involve the characters wander thru a ruined city with a gas mask on his face, getting into fights with someone of some thing that wants to kill him. This was a welcome change. It is amazing how so much story can be compressing into so little time yet make such big impact.
Well Done.
Thank you very much! So glad you liked it! =)
I can identify. Being around other humans makes me exhausted. So I spend a lot of time alone. But I still need to feel other humans are out there, that Im included in others hearts even if I exclude myself from their presence a lot. And the emptiness of a world without anyone else like you would be a heavy one indeed, even for us loners.
💪💯😉😇🙏✨
indeed. I once moved to a secluded place in the nature. I didn't know what real isolation feels like, until than. Suffocating feeling...I believe would drive most people mad after a while
I experience same thing around peopke. I love being alone most of the time. I am bad at remembering names, because i never asume the contact will be long time. I am married but am not happy. Never new marriage could be suffocating. I escape a lot to quit places in my car. But even this results in more suffocating feeling. If you park somewhere quite to have some alone time, either the police of some gays looking for gaysex approach you 🥴. Now my goal is to get enough money to buy my own piece of land to spend some alone time till i die in peace.
I been dreaming of that day
You sound like me. I always felt different, as I would stay up all night to have peace, as being around people sucked the life out of me....exhaust me.
Then, I sought help. I sought therapy, after my husband died. My therapist tested me after we talked.
It was then, that what was different about me....what caused me to avoid people, even family.....I am an extremely sensitive Empath. I feel and absorb other people's energies....am an animal empath too, in addition to nature...(I talk to trees, plants and "feel" them). Crazy sounding. But true.
Consider if you are an Empath. There are 5 types. Some Empaths have all 5...I have 4.
Being around lots of people would literally make me physically sick. My therapist taught me exercises to help me. And she told me that I MUST learn to build a "bubble" around myself, to protect me from absorbing people's feelings.
Once....when my late husband was alive, the grocery store clerk that was checking us out.....wow...I suddenly had heart wrenching grief....I knew that someone close to her had died . I asked her if she had a father or brother that had died recently, she looked stunned and started crying. She said her brother had committed suicide 3 days prior. I comforted her, then jumped on her Manager's butt, told him what she was going through....
He felt SO bad, as he had no idea and gave her 2 weeks off with pay.
What occurred.....is being an Empath. It is a true gift of God and called "the Gift of Discernment". The closer you are to God, the stronger the gift. Being sn Empath can and will help you to know a person before you know that person....it is a gift that helps you avoid bad people and situations.
I don't know if that's what is going on, but I understand....there are lots of us. Seek help. Online has a lot of info that will help you.
God bless you....I hope this helps😊
I see too many end-of-the-world films with tough guys stalking thru the woods, and no real story. I am not given to superlatives, or gushing over something I like. You have made something very, very special here. Never forget that. Thanks.
tackyman2011 Thank you very much! That means a lot!
Finally an apocalyptic flick with a thoughtful positive ending. Except for the fact that everyone is dead of course.
"Survivors F- Off!" - "Quiet day." This is awesome.
If I were one of the last folks left on the face of the planet? Guess I'd probably do what that guy in "The Last man on earth" did, load up an RV or something and drive across the country both to see the sights and to learn if I truly was the last person on earth. Bring along a camera and take pictures of myself at famous landmarks. And once the gas ran out I'd probably just walk the roadways living out of a backpack or bike and trailer. And when I finally got tired of that I'd find myself and abandoned house out in the countryside and settle down. Maybe start a garden, learn to rig up some solar panels, and probably just spend as much of my natural life enjoying the peace. Maybe adopt a cat or dog along the way? Guess I'll have to make a checklist for if i ever find myself in this situation.
Great film though. Really enjoyed it. Brings back memories of A Boy and His Dog, loved watching that. Two thumbs up on your work.
Thanks a lot for your comment Kris! It's a question that's a lot of fun to think about. I actually saw A Boy and His Dog recently after someone who saw my short recommended it to me. Great film!
Jonathan Wilhelmsson - Thank you for making such an entertaining short.
Never saw the film, but read the original short story when published in 1969 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Boy_and_His_Dog
That story was more exciting than this excursion, A Girl and her Rabbit, haunting Sydney Billabong.
Why not just do that tomorrow? Remember, it's not until you get rid of everything that you are free to do anything. Unless you're married or a parent, then sorry, get your arse to work on Monday.
"If I were one of the last folks left on the face of the planet? Guess I'd probably do what that guy in "The Last man on earth" did, load up an RV or something and drive across the country "
thats all well and good but would you "bowl with cars"
Year and a half and I'm just seeing this now? Bad algoritms, youtube, bad algorithms!
What a great little film! Kudos!
Thank you very much Geoff! I'm so glad you found it =)
Roger that! I hope you have something new in the works; you and your crew are extremely talented!
While this girl does what many of us might do initially, it really does show the emptiness of this behavior when you're alone. (Hint, mebbe: do you have to be alone to act piggy?) Thank goodness you didn't just do the killer/survivor camo shoot-to-kill bullshit. Why would anyone want to KILLyou?!? ONLY groups have a chance, if your mommy hasn't taught you "please" snd "thank you," now's a good time to start. FOOD is eveywhere for a while at least, go live in a grocery store and eat cookiies and ice cream until you explode, if that's what matters to ya! Thnx fer the show, keep on.
It's rare to find an amateur short film that doesn't make you cringe within the first minute, so I'm really impressed. The writing was great, the lead actor was amazing, post editing is done so well it's hard to imagine it was done on a computer.
Keep up the good work pal! I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your work! :)
That's awesome! Thank you so much! =)
That film was deep. You managed to squeeze all the feels of a feature into only a quarter of the time.
Also, the lead actor was a real screen presence. We look forward to seeing more shorts from you very soon!
Wow, thank you very much! That means a lot! =)
Yo creo que debería aprovisionarse de alimentos y agua, y buscar lugares seguros.
if i could pick a person to survive with, it would be Tilda. she knows how to have fun.
This ended up being very great, and emotional. I don't think it's a realistic scenario, which made it a bit dull at the start to me, but then I understood it's not really about creating a possible scenario, this film reached something way higher. Having that first part before the turning point of the rabbits death, just gave the film a clear and thoughtful purpose
This is beautiful! A fantastic story wonderfully portrayed and performed. This is high art. I thank everyone involved for my getting to experience this work. Cheers!
Wow, thank you so much for this wonderful comment! I'm so happy you liked it!
The most beautiful message was delivered in the most creative way! Good job
Thank you very much! =)
I found it to be thoughtful and sad. Wonderful job!
And I love how you listed the cast!
After decades of CZcams videos and short films this is my absolute favorite. Come on Netflix, ding this thing as series!
Thanks a lot, that's extremely kind of you! =)
Whiskey guzzling, Demolition expert, talking to a rabbit very young person. I don’t know, sounds like a dream sequence. Had to stop with where do you want to sleep tonight.
only thing missing was a black man to fall in love with.
I loved this so much. Poor rabbit... I'm not crying you are.
Aw, thank you very much, Cat!

'Whats wrong mate? Not thirsty?'
'shut the fuck up Gary..'
Hahaha 😂😂
Cannot say enough good things about this film! Thank you for making it!
Thank you for watching! =)
I watched a lot of similar films and a small part of them really touched my heart. Your movie is one of them. Good luck, don't stop. Greetings from Russia.
Aaah Russia....Hello to you...from New Orleans!....Enjoyed the Vid..
Thanks a lot Victoria! =)
Thank you for this. I needed to see this today. Thank you.
This is absolutely awesome!! I'm impressed by Holly's acting - really good job, very authentic!
Wow, SO much pollen in the air today..my eyes are streaming! What a beautiful, brilliant short! I'm kinda late to the party but glad I found this!
Haha, thank you very much! That's very kind of you! =)
All THOSE short films win all the same awards at the same time. It is still the end.
I LOVE this film. Makes me want to be a better person.
Wow, thank you so much! That has to be the best thing you could hope for someone to say about something you made.
i guess what your saying is, dont try to survive the apocalypse alone. great film.
I expect to see more of this kind of filmwork in the future and may your lead actor be cast in a LOT more. She did us Aussies fucking proud. Congratulations to you and your team of amazing people :D
Thank you so much! That means a great deal! I've passed your message on to Holly =)
Very very good. Best 15 mins I have spent on you tube in a long time. Acting credits to the rabbit though 😊 Well done all.
Thank you very much! Bandit the Rabbit has actually gone on to have a bit of an acting career after this film =)
What a refreshing surprise..one of the better made shtf movies on CZcams..and I’ve watched MANY...Thanks
Man, that rabbit is a buzzkill, all logical and responsible. Was a lot like her when I was in my 20's, only I do remember my rabbit spoke French, which I don't understand.Wish I had, especially when the world DIDN'T end.Left me a bit out.
Good work; these shorts are the best thing going .
Mark Ferguson Ever seen the movie Harvey, with Jimmy Stewart? If not, do.
@@fig4159 Definitely, forever ago.Stewart took the "other" pill, back before anyone heard of it.
I really enjoyed this film but, now I am sad. I can relate to the loneliness Tilda experienced at the end and with the loss of her bunny friend. The film was very well done and profound.
So your film is still *Premiering* for more people to experience. Good show. I felt the noise and chaos and then the quiet and loneliness.
That was really good!! Everyone involved has talent, story, acting, filming, just all around excellent.
Erm,... let's get this right, all her friends disappear (presumably dead or departed), her parents disappear (presumably dead or departed) and she doesn't get upset until her bunny dies. And that's what it takes to make her see what was previously wrong with the world? It doesn't seem to have affected wildlife as we see geese flying overhead so maybe it won't be too hard to find another bunny and everything will be OK again. Well it is Australia so no bunny shortage.
This is fucking brilliant, the editing, the non diagetic and diagetic sound.
I love it all, it was fucking marvelous, especially the acting choice of Tilda, whoever that girl is, anyone including myself would be blessed to meet such talent! Fucking oath.
That's awesome, thank you very much! Really great to hear you liked the editing and the sound design. Holly is fantastic, isn't she! =)
Very well done, great job. I've seen thousands of these short films. And this one gets to me
Well done! I haven't seen an "Indie" film in a long time with such high production values, tight editing, excellent acting and talented bunny. A simple story VERY well told. Congratulations.
Thanks a lot Mike! That's very kind of you!
The best 15 minutes I've ever spent on youtube in my life, you can feel the heart of each one of those involved in this project, this is art, thank you all.
That's too kind, thank you so much!
Cool! How did you close of the bridge ? And it must have taken a long time to teach the bunny to talk! :o so impressed !
The bunny won't stop talking now! D=
YES! Thank you, I loved the twist in the story. Thank you.
Brilliant short film! I had a great aunt Matilda who emmigrated to Austrailia just before WW2, My Aunt Matilda was named after her. She lived in Edinburgh, Scotland. During WW2 alot of Austrailian soldiers were stationed here and they'd always sing Waltzing Matilda to her....she must've got pissed off hearing that song because she wrote to my great aunt asking her if she could change her name! LOL
Wow, this was really good on many levels! Loved the comedy, the philosophy, the sadz; very well done, mates..
That's awesome =) Thank you very much!
This was amazing!! Message was delivered wholeheartedly I really enjoyed and connected with this . Thanks for making this short film .
Thank you very much Manny! Making films can be very hard sometimes and comments like this really mean a lot!
This has got to be one of the best short films on CZcams.
Engrossing little flick . Well done crew !!!!
exceptional film. a case for not destroying our world even with all its problems there is always redemption
Absolutely! Thank you very much!
I loved it! Great post apocalyptic film!! Great story it was brilliant good message
Really sold it, and like other said crazy job on the scenes/empty streets and buildings. Good example of when different is good.
Honestly, I watch quite a lot of these apocalyptic films, and this is the best one I have seen by far. That's no lie. I am a sub now
A rare gem in the Post Apoc films. As for me, I would thrive in her world, wow, what a blessing!
Some might argue that you took your inspiration from a certain Kiwi film, "The Quiet Earth," but unlike the scientist in that one, Tilda is the exact opposite. She just wants to live as an anarchist almost solo until she loses her only friend. The bloke in "The Quiet Earth" did everything he could to look for survivors. You've done well on the idea
Thank you very much! The Quiet Earth is brilliant! I only saw it after making this short so it wasn't intentional, but there sure are similarities =)
Never yell at your rabbit friend! You never know....
Wow this is a masterpiece
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked it! =)
thank you, jonathan, for this wonderful movie :D it feels much longer that 15 minutes. and you deserve much more views. this is great.
Thank you so much Galina! I'm glad you liked it! =D
Aussie version of addicted Alice in wonderland. Loved the talking "white rabbit ". Very entertaining.
Great flic, enjoyed it! But then again it is ANOTHER post apocalyptic film!
You did really well. Hope to watch more from you in the future!!
That's great to hear. Thank you very much! =D
That was deep, be careful what you wish for you might get it and it's not what you thought it would be. I enjoyed that.
Just brilliant mate! Writing, Cinematography, VFX, just fantastic
Thank you very much! I'm so glad you like it =)
It took me a minute to realize it was the rabbit. Best one I have seen so far. 2👍👍 up.
that may have only been 15 minutes long, but it made me feel more feels than any full length feature film has in a very long time. thanks for sharing and well done to you!!
Thank you very much! That's so good to hear! =D
Fabulous, thank you so much for sharing this thoughtful and well executed wee movie, good luck with any future projects.
Thanks a lot! I appreciate that!
The Quiet Earth, anyone?
Great film =) Lots of similarities, although I only saw it after I made this short.
@@JonathanWilhelmsson Cool. Thanks for the reply. Cheers :)
Yup, pandemic time is a good time to get caught up on short post apocalyptic films.
Really well done. Shout out to the incidental music, nailed it.
Just wow
: o
That this was made by students is unbelievable. Best post apocalyptic film I'v seen in a wherry wherry long time. Maybe forever, and this really mean something because I'm old as fuck.
(When spellchecking "post apocalyptic", that I did spell wrong, the drunk gnome in cyberspace suggested "Optimistic" : )
wow, that was deep. great job guys.
Thank you very much! Glad you liked it =)
Brilliant!! Fuking Brilliant!!
What an amazing short movie on many levels, concept, acting, camera work, settings and editing. The only part I am debating with myself on was the premature rolling of the credits followed by the ending. Overall very enjoyable. I understand why someone made the comment about the movie wanting them to be a better person.
i had to watch it again. i love you Tilda
I suppose that I should post a, “Spoiler Alert?” What a great gem of a short film! Tilda wakes up one morning and soon realizes that she is the only person left in Sydney and most probably the only person left in world!? At first Tilda occupies her free time with, drinking, pill popping and demolishing buildings in the city. When her pet rabbit, Shane dies, Tilda comes to the realization that there’s more to life than being self-destructive. She starts by cleaning up the litter and begins to look after the environment. I can’t help but wonder if this film was influenced by the 1985, New Zealand film, “The Quiet Earth?” Both these films have a central character that wakes up and finds that the world’s population has disappeared.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hadn't actually seen The Quiet Earth when I was making this short but I've seen it since and it's great =)
I'm still here
at first I wondered a bit how she managed to write her Name on the Opera that big, all those other uneasing Details some might not consciously notice, the Grey Hair add depth to your story that makes it magic, very well done, looks like lots of effort.
Great short film with really good production quality. Did Tilda kill herself and this was her afterlife in which she learns a valuable lesson. The only confusing part was that she took a bunch of pills and alcohol the second go around only to throw it up on purpose as she has an epiphany. Seems like a part two would be in order my homies!
Yeah she tried to kill herself and then changed her mind and redeemed herself. Great story!
Amazing film! Great job!
Thank you! =)
Out-bloody-standing mate!!!
I know just how Tilda feels. Great Short.
Fantastic movie. Loved it.
i remember watching this at the premiere at Sydney film school- i still think about it all the time
Good work, & from the viewer's point of view, good entertainment - I don't recall one sequence where you could say it's boring or lacking in clarity.
It's very "Bokeh" like, & yet it's good enough to stand on it's own.
It all came together very well.
Congratulations, & I hope you'll go on to make more films.
Good luck.
That's very kind of you! Thanks! I wasn't crazy about 'Bokeh' but it sure is a very interesting film =)
Really liked this short film! Different and good actress!
One of the best short film I've watched. Well done mate.
Thank you very much! Glad you liked it! =)
Muiz Rosli Watch ARCH, everything is great in the movie.
Loved it, deep, meaningful, clear, insightful and well executed piece of cinematography. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks a lot Eugene! Glad to hear you liked it! =)
Poor rabbit, alcohol has never solved anything, it actually has caused people to not give a shit, and do cruel acts to others. The rabbit committed suicide than to live with someone who was acting as she was. The rabbits death, however, brought her back to her senses. Good flick.....the flock of birds at the end was a nice sign of hope... peace
Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds more views!!!
Great piece of work
Thank you very much, Sharon! =)
Amazing, film. There was emotion aspect, just amazing.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it =)
Love this film! Holly's brilliant. Feature length film next please!
Thank you very much! =D
This was unexpected and wonderful
This was awesome, I mean really this was awesome.....
IDK why you have very less subscribers... anyway.... Awesome story awesome acting awesome in every aspects... and its a quite horrible imagination...
I don't like crowded places I always stay in my room, working from home, online study etc. so I don't meet a lot of people, I don't have a lot of friends but after watching this I called all my families and friends... at least I am not alone on entire planet...
Good video. Thanks
Amazing! You're talented guy. And the actress was so realistic. Withon the bunny :-D
Marie Sekaninová Thanks a lot Marie! I appreciate it! =)
@@JonathanWilhelmsson Could I know, how old are you? Because it's so smart movie. And I think, I can appreciate good movie, because I'm 40. Probably could be your mother :-D
Marie Sekaninová That’s very kind of you! I’m 26 =)
@@JonathanWilhelmsson O.K. teen mom :-D
Shane is so Cool. The voice of reason. Then her irresponsibility killed him.
Shane killed HIMSELF by abusing opioids. It's obvious that we must do a better job of reaching out to the talking bunny population and educate them them about how dangerous these narcotics are. Perhaps also throw in something about condom use because they all seem to fuck like, well... bunnies.
Bravo! Bravo! Standing Ovation here. Thanks for posting. Looking forward to future endeavors.
Rabbits are naturally great listeners. Wait for it.
Excellent!
I like your rendition of the "last person on Earth" theme. Tilda's a refreshing character that people can relate to.
That's very nice of you to say. Thank you very much Victor, I'm glad you liked it!
Very well done with an important message.
In the movie the CASTAWAY Tom Hanks had a volleyball to talk and argue with, will Smith he had mannequins so why not a rabbit? No matter what your situation you're in at the moment we all need someone to talk to don't matter if it's a person, pet, object or a higher spiritual being we all need someone to talk too. That's what I got from watching this thank you.
Brilliant
