This type of feedback is rare indeed. I think CZcams feedback is usually close to the mark; this is no exception.
It is soo hard to make something really good. And the criticism, when one falls short, must hurt. I respect the attempts and deeply appreciate the successes, like this one.

I not complaining, simply making a point. People who have hearing difficulties can not understand the dialog with the music at high levels. A lot of time it just in the beginning of the movie but by the time the music is turned down or removed the person with hearing difficulty never quite gets the gist of the movie. Maybe tone down the music on your next movie.

This movie is like an epic ode to the love for a woman… Reminds me of a dream my late spouse had. He died of complications from diabetes: both eyes operated, open heart surgery, dialysis, and loss of right leg. He dreamed God said to him that he (God) would restore him back to perfect health, but that he (my husband) would have to give up his fiancée (me). He told God that if that was the price, then he would remain as he was… How I miss my beloved and this movie made me remember about his dream… Great movie, simple, sublime, and EXCELLENT.

That was very thoughtful. Told a whole alien take over story in 13 minutes. You're use of dialog was interesting too. No dialog at all for 6 minutes but you still managed to set up the world, character, and plot. There were some slight audio issues with the dialog at the end, but other than that, it was a top notch short. This definitely helps to inspire possibilities for my own shorts. Great job!

  • @ravenestrella2310
    @ravenestrella2310 Před 4 lety +4

This film was absolutely breathtaking! The subtlty of the plot, which leaves you guessing, and causes your mind to fill in the missing pieces of what was so beautifully implied, but never stated, allows the viewer to draw their own conclusions, so that we each come away with a different idea of just what, exactly, is going on throughout the film...what humanity's fate will be...what the two men's roles are in it all...why he decided to stay even though the love of his life had passed on...all of it was left up to viewer's imagination to decide. A feat of such subtlety is enormously difficult to pull off, and can only be done when all of the pieces--the acting, the writing, and all the rest--come together to make a beautiful whole, which is exactly what this did! It's rare that I'm in awe of a film, but I'm in awe of this one! Exquisitely perfect, in every way! Congratulations! This was beautifully well done!

Thought provoking, well executed, the acting is excellent, the music adding the right touch of atmosphere (albeit a bit overpowering in one scene but no biggie). No over-the-top drama , cookie-cutter knock off, just simplistic, basic, refreshing storytelling at its finest... the kind that takes your mind to other possibilities and lets it roam free. Reminiscent of one of my favs growing up, Bradbury. I have watched it 3 times and have been in awe each time. During this last viewing I picked up on a slight editing error but I also saw a few nuances that were very nice touches, adding depth to the scenes. I haven't felt compelled to give my opinion on a short in quite some time as most of them fall short of being able to say anything polite. This one is different.
Very well done. Cinematography was creative. The plot is simple with subtle enough complexity to captivate. The dialogue is also simple thus lending to believability and the acting was far better than most shorts with amateur actors in them.
It deserves saying twice; Very, very well done.

This is probably the best, most evocative short I have seen in a long, long time. Very well done and nearly perfect. I can't really find a significant flaw. One thing it shows: you don't need explosions, robots or tons of exposition to make a great piece of apocalyptic science fiction. I'm not much of an emotional person but this made a major and quite unexpected impact on them. This should be developed into a feature film. If it were, I, for one, would watch it more than once. Oh - and subscribed.
    Regards - Dave

dgwachtel thank you so much for the kind words. i have done some work to develop this into a feature, but I'm so backlogged with other projects on my plate, that it has had to go to the back burner, for now at least. Thank you for subscribing! I have some new projects on the way that I will be sharing on this page, that I am hoping will really reward everyone who subbed after watching this film.

Mike, not at all, it was my pleasure, thank you for making such great cinema art. I'm looking forward to following your and your colleagues careers.
I can emphasize with the ransomware disaster. Years ago I had about a quarter of a novel, probably about forty plus pages disappear when an old mfm disk drive went south. I had tape backups, but the tapes were also unreadable. I even sent the drive off to a rescue firm in California, Jerry Pournelle's son's company as it turned out. Without doing work that I couldn't possibly afford, the data on the disk was unrecoverable. I tried to duplicate it from memory but it wasn't the same. I also got extremely busy with my software career and motor racing so I abandoned the project. Except for some half hearted attempts at short stores, it was my last attempt at writing a novel. Making art is difficult! Unfortunately, with ransomware, unless you either pay the crook to obtain the private key, or have access to CIA supercomputers, the encrypted data is unrecoverable.
In semi retirement, I've gained an unsought after hobby of cleaning the malware, rootkits, bloatware and adware from my relatives Windows machines. The record is something like 60+ infections! They appreciate the results as, unlike big box "techs", I can do it without erasing or destroying their data. This process sometimes takes days to do properly though.
For the last ten years at least, I've been running dual boot Linux/Windows on most of my machines and only use Windows for games or a few applications that don't have Linux equivalents. Linux attackers mainly go after corporate servers, so with a hardware firewall, virus protection and with good on line practices, the individual user is pretty safe. The later Apple OS is based on BSD, a very good UNIX variant I worked with years ago, so it too is relatively safe from most malicious attacks.
Anyway - best of luck and regards - Dave

      Mike -
Thanks, but there was probably little I could have done after the attack. If I had, this is much of what I would have advised.
Lots of long winded gratuitous advice follows :)
In the prior post, I mentioned using supercomputers to brute force find a decryption key. I was incorrect. It's not possible even in the near future, even by using state of the art quantum computers. Using a desktop computer it would take years measured at least in the millions to find a key.
      crypto.stackexchange.com/questions/9480/assuming-a-1024qb-quantum-computer-how-long-to-brute-force-1024bit-rsa-256bit
In the link below, they refer to file recovery software. Using these, it may have been possible to recover many(?) of your files, provided that either the regular drive or the backup was about half full. I use Piriform Recuva, it's really good. Some machines I've cleaned needed to have deleted system files recovered as these files with updated patches were not available. In most cases Recuva was able to find the OS files that the virus deleted and restore them.
I used to have a bootable thumb drive with all of that stuff on it. There are also free DVD's that have various recovery tools available. It's a good idea to burn one and to get familiar with usage. They are generally pretty user friendly.
The latest attack, from May of this year, was "WannaCry". Here's a good explanation of how it worked and possible recovery options.
medium.com/threat-intel/wannacry-ransomware-decryption-821c7e3f0a2b That advice might also apply to future ransom ware.
MS was so freaked out that they issued a patch for XP! Newer versions of Windows were patched in May. I only have XP on my dual boot machines. I can't afford MS ridiculous pricing for their newer OS's and most everything I need is on Linux and XP. I had been doing Android development and all the tools for this are on Linux and are free! I use Kdenlive for video editing and Audacity (and others) for audio. Both are not quite as good as what is available on Windows, but are OK for what I need and are also free. They are a little finicky though.
Most antivirus programs would have detected "wannacry", or at least informed the user regarding the vulnerability to it.
Two important routine tasks: first update the OS as soon as new updates are released; second keep your antivirus up to date. For MS it's "patch Tuesday". For Unbuntu Linux it's as they become available. For Apple, I have no idea.
If your antivirus is payware, make sure to renew. Many of the machines I've cleaned were infected simply because the users forgot to renew their subscriptions. Some were many years out of date. Stay away from Norton or Symantic. I'ts been my experience that they infest your system and are hard to completely uninstall plus they bog the machine down by (guessing) 20 to 30 percent - not good. They also were unstable and provoked many BSODs (Blue Screen Of Death).
Two things that might help in the future, (although I don't think it would have made a difference with WC). Make two accounts on your machine. One an administrative account and the other a user account. Do your regular computing on the user (non privileged) account. Typing in you credentials to run system tasks is a pain but is safer. Ubuntu Linux works this way by default.
I use Avast or Windows Defender (or whatever it's being called these days) with Malware Bytes as a adjunct for occasional on demand scanning. Install only one antivirus program, they don't play nice with one another. On Linux I used Avast but they no longer support that platform so I now use the open source ClamAV Antivirus. There may be better ones available however.
It's best to make backups when disconnected from the internet and after a virus scan and then disconnect the backup drive(s) from the computer. Backing up an infected system is semi-useless, hence the full scan before backing up.
The internet - it's a jungle out there - be careful!

I always long for an alien encounter movie, that unfolds in a new and amazing way. The intimacy of this movie made it much more real and heartfelt, than filling it with special effects and technological speculation. You really showed how few props and little exposition is needed, if the story and the emotions of the characters are powerful. Great work !
