  • Our aim in this video is to find out which MX bike is best for your average weekend warrior! Will the big, bad 450 be the ultimate motocross weapon? Perhaps the little 250 four stroke will be a better choice for most riders, or maybe the middle weight 350 SX-F will claim the crown in this dirt bike shoot out! We test the all new 2023 KTM SX-F range back to back to find out the answers :-)
    Enjoy guys!

    After 4 seasons and many hours on a 350, and after 36 years on and off of riding dirt bikes, I VERY VERY reluctantly bought my first 450, a 2022 KX. I instantly jived with the bike and was immediately more comfortable than I had ever been on that 350, and the 350 was a great bike.

    • @Fatonzzz
      @Fatonzzz Před rokem +6

      @@brutus6328 I think comparing a 2018 Husky 350 to a 2022 Kawi 450 is a bit apples to oranges, but power wise both motors are very smooth. Obviously the 350 is missing the torque of the 450. Mid to high rpm the two motors are similar to be honest. I had huge reservations about getting a 450, but it was pure revelation how smooth and manageable the 450 is.
      Comfort wise there is no comparison. The 450 is just as, if not more nimble, but night and day difference in compliance and predictability. For me the comfort is the confidence in the fact the bike NEVER does anything unexpected. My 350 had custom suspension and performed decently, but at least every now and then would have moments where it would do something completely unexpected.
      The Kawi just feels hard to make mistakes on, and even when I have a "moment" the Kawi seems to lessen the severity. Sometimes I wonder afterwards "would I have crashed had I been on my 350?"...lol. I also find the Kawi easier to toss around in the air.
      Both are great motorcycles. I think 350's have improved even more since my 2018. I like a 450 for the fact I can ride lower rpm, and work on being smooth and precise. The 350 took more throttle input which is a problem for me since my right wrist/hand has limited strength and mobility after having broken my wrist into several pieces and having had a couple surgeries for it. The Kawi 450 is a perfect fit for a vet like me who likes to just try to be smooth around the track and conserve energy. Everyone said the 450 would tire me out quickly and I would not be able to ride it as long as a 350, but I have found the opposite to be true.
      I currently have 16 hours on the bike and I'm hoping to get some gopro riding footage at some point. I have a couple short clips my wife took of me riding the Kawi 450, and an older one of the Husky 350.

      @@Fatonzzz First, I GREATLY appreciate the in depth reply so THANKS for that!!!
      Now, you're a great rider! I'm basically a step down from you as I have little experience on a track but lots in pits (we had big pits in NJ! LOL)
      Also, where are you that you basically have an entire track to yourself??? I'd kill for that!
      My concern is I'm a "bigger" rider at 215lbs and have only seen bigger vet riders on 450's (swapmoto did one, guys up to 240lbs)
      I'm also 5'9" so the new Husky really appeals to me due to it's lower seat. I'm definitely buying brand new either '22 or '23. My main concern is not that I can't control it, but is anything less than a 450 gonna lug too much because of my weight.

      You're welcome 👍 Thanks for the compliment. I'm in Northern Alberta, Canada. Our track is run strictly by volunteers. The trade off is less maintenance and prep, but yes my wife and I often have it to ourselves. Any modern 250, 350, 450 will easily haul you around at your weight, although big obstacles with less run-in will require more technique like clutch, pre-load, seat bounce, etc... I have ridden many other people's 450's in the past, and there was always that chug, chug, feeling through the corners where it felt like the motor wanted to stand the bike up. This 450 doesn't have that and feels much more "free". Seat height for MX doesn't concern me. I'm 5'-6" and ride the stock height ha ha.

    Japanese manufacturers need to get into the 350 game and there needs to b a 350 class n racing. That could be a good balancing point n Mx/sx racing. The 350 is the perfect all around bike though for sure. I have the ‘14 ktm 350xcf and I know the newer models r much improved but I honestly have no complaints whatsoever about my bike I’ve been very happy with it. If you are getting lapped by local B and C riders and middle of the pack vet dudes on 125s or 250s you have no reason to ever be on a 450. I absolutely love my 450 because it’s got custom suspension but I should never ride it. I’m faster on the 250 and can ride it all day unlike the 450 where I ride it 5-8 laps and park it. Interesting that the whole bike is the same except the engine!
    How similar are the '23 Husqvarna and Gasgas bikes to the KTMs? One frame to rule them all? lol

    • @basketball7677
      @basketball7677 Před rokem +1

      They are owned by KTM, there are slight differences like brakes, wheel/hubs, suspension and plastics colour ahahah

    • @brutus6328
      @brutus6328 Před rokem +1

      They are also detuned so the KTM remains the flagship. The air boxes are covered and the Gas Gas does not get any maps, has no name bars. Lots of info out on the differences.

      @@Sn0w1981 Their claim is that each bike should appeal to different cliental. ie, the KTM is more the hardcore track racer, the Husky is more for the vet and older riders as it's slightly more mellow. And GasGas was designed to appeal to those who are frugal or don't have the money for a $10K bike. I'm about to buy a new '22 or '23 and I've watched all the reviews and tests, the GasGas does really well, just doesn't have all the premium parts the other do. Go watch swapmoto, Vital Mx, Racer X motocross & Supercross news, motocross action magazine. These are awesome channels that test the bikes (some dyno them) and explain the differences well.

      @@Sn0w1981 Yep! And they even say in the reviews, " for the Gas Gas, just drill a hole and let more air into it so it breathes. I believe the Husky actually comes with 2 covers so they give you a vented cover. Lastly I know the rear shock springs are considered less premium than the other two. But you can get the Gas Gas for nearly $2K less !

      Who ever made the new rules fully ruined motorcross 4 strokes were made unfair they are faster bikes because bigger cc and make more power than the 2 stroke models, make a 2 stroke with the same power to compete with the 250f and things would of been different

      @@quavo2326 What's with all of you guys whining about four strokes?
      Drop even a CR500 motor in a modern frame and try to beat people of equal skill on 450s. You'll still lose.

    How about 4 stroke 400 cc against the 250 2 stroke, why does 4 stroke need such an advantage, it's simple, 4 strokes are a dog on equal cc s

      Yea iam a 2 stroke guy, all 8 of my gokarts are Mac's, or foreign reed or rotary, and 4 strokes are dogs, we only run 135 150 or 100cc. In the early 70s my friend Jimmy Shaw was sponsored by huskavarny 250 class.
