Worked at a 7 line dealership for years. We call 85's. 65's and 50's grown man killers, lol. Those things rock...
Soooooo Truuuuuuu!!! The only bike that ever ran out from under me and dumped me onto my knees one day was a Yamaha 125 MX when it came onto the pipe, caught a little traction, and launched itself like a rocket right out from under me. My 360 and 500 could never do that.
Yeah my son's kx100 was insane
I own an 01 jr80 2t.
That thing is a beast.
I worked at a shop in the late 90s. A kx65 threw me on my ass and humbled me 🤣
I think the inner boy in all of us was smiling the whole time during that race so cool
so true, thanks for watchng :)
I’m 59yrs old now and have been craving a YZ85LW since they came out! I’m 5’11 and dropped my weight from 230lbs down to 138lbs just so I can race one. Great video at @999lazer I would love to see more videos like this!👍🏁🤠
I'm 55 and picked up 2 RM85'S about year and a half ago. Both basket cases.
Rebuilt all that I could short of cosmetics which I'm not worried with.
I say get yourself an 85cc of choice and enjoy. Just remember that a kids toy can booger us old timers up.
That’s a big weight drop, congrats!
Dude I’m 5’11 and I’m 160lbs and I’m also 17 and I’m pretty skinny, I have some muscle and definition but I’m still pretty skinny if you’re 138lbs at 5’11 dude you might needa gain just lil more
Poor mans Porsche
That's awesome!!!!
The 85cc champion got abit of weight on him for a pro motocross rider. There's hope for us all then 😂😂 great video
He won the championship almost 20 years ago...
Herp a derp
The champ likes doughnuts 😂😂
That's exactly what I was thinking,! yay!
@@daviddavidson4496he won another 10 years ago and is still an active pro mxer
Yeah, I feel bad for that motor 😂
Steve Clark on the last few corners, wow!
he was absolutely on fire :)
Best sound ever is a 2 stroke singing
And the worst ever sound is a 2 stroke powering past you
I'm 55 and have my RM85 KIDS toy. It's a hoot.
That was an adrenaline rush for those guys .
You all hit it out of the park on this one.
Cheers Eric, glad you enjoyed it :)
49 years old. Back on a dirt bike again after 30 years.Went for a 2022 TC85 big wheel to follow my son around the gardens on and its awesome. Really got the bug again from riding the 85. Tempted to get a 250 4 stroke for some track action but will keep the 85 for pure fun. Different class from the 80s i grew up with.
Buy yourself a 125/150. Way more fun than a 4-Puke!
@@straighttimestirrups yeah i get that and i agree to certain point but my Husky gives me plenty of 2 stroke fun already. im quite light so it pulls me around fine. Tempted to 105 it on the next rebuild. i fancy a new 250 just to try out the latest tech and see if its an easier ride then a 125 would be.
Nothing takes more skill to ride than an 85. If you can handle that thing, you could get big air on any bike.
Yz125x
I worked at a Yamaha in the early 70s, I purchased a YZ80 b, brand new in 1975 for 528 dollers, what a great little motercycle, after that I would go back and buy parts and they hired me went all the way up to a YZ 125 or YZ250 and an IT 465, now that's a MOTORCYCLE
I've owned a bunch of it's started on 175 J. In my 30s I put an old 70s IT 250 engine in a later model RM 125 barley fitted used a DT175 expansion chamber and had to cut the frame and make a box section to get the exhaust through as they came through the centre on old bikes had the twin spring rear end. Man it was a hoot to ride, looked like something out of a Mad Max movie. People wouldn't think much of it out riding until they seen it get up and boogie especially with that sixth gear. 😂
Those IT 465s were an absolute vicious weapon (a handful but a weapon) and highly collectable now. Hang onto that one 👍
Brits are so fucking funny. Bro called him a “rascal” when he passed him lol
He's controlling his language as its usually little kids zapping past him on the 85, Little shits are quuck and have no fear !!😂
I envy kids, they get to race two strokes like its 1999!
so true :) thanks for watching
Except for aids 1999 was bad for dirtbikes. No one made good carbs
@@nesc39 Yeah but at least everybody was still on a smoker then. Except that one dude with his 400 cheaterbike, lol
There’s just something about being able to push a smaller cc bike to its absolute limit! It makes ya feel like a bona fide master 💪 lol. And then you jump of a YZilla and get humbled real quick 😂! Thank you Max Sean and Steve! This video was super FUN!!! 🤩
The dude on the 85 was so eager he was kicking along the 85 to give it more speed. He must have a brain that makes everything around him go in slow motion beeing able to almost run alongside the bike in each corner so he could get the W. awesome job
That was so fun to watch boys! The editing was on point along with everything else. Great idea and I felt giddy watching the gap close. Thanks for the hard work everyone.
Thanks so much!!
Years ago I bought a CR85r, still have it and love it. My 450 is mental but the 85 is like riding a BMX bike so is super fun
I bought a 2003 CR85 RB years ago , with a crook hip wanting something small and light , as close to a mountain bike as possible for trial/enduro riding . Absolutely loved this thing after dialing in the suspension and a few tweaks for power. Hill climbs were an obvious downfall , but tight cornering , rocky trails and nimble handling was a blast . There's something about ringing the neck out of a noisy 2 Stroke to keep up with the big boys that makes it fun . Unless your racing that's what it's all about 😁 diiiing , ding ding ding ding 🇦🇺
Huge difference between steve and Smith in corner speed. Steve was absolute insane in the last corners. Pretty good stuff.
Thanks for watching:)
I'm almost 50, I have a yz85 in the garage. Yes it's mine and they're awesome little bikes. What a fun race to watch
great little bike, thanks for watching :)
I'm 51 light and own a Cr85 big wheel , take it trail riding in Australian mountains and love it . The closest thing you can get to a huge suspension mountain bike , light but with all that awesomeness of an obnoxiously loud 2 Stroke echoing through the mountains. Great fun . Just don't ask about the ludicrously steep mountain climbs , the attacking challenge is fun but compared to a four stroke -we'll leave that one alone 😁 I do believe that riding these makes you a better attacking 4 stroke rider .🇦🇺
We had a big race at our local track. Kevin Windham was still riding a 85. Mark Barnett showed up on a CR250. Kevin ran laps within a second of Mark.
Very entertaining Video, I like the little shorter length as well!! Thanks Max, keep them coming!
Aah, the sound of a small 2 stroke engine, brings back memories from the late 90’s and early 00’s when i competed with my kx80😊
awesome,thanks for watching:)
Go the 85 , great fun little machines , I'm a light rider and still love mine at 51 years old. Can't beat that 2 stroke feel.
That was fun to watch. It was interesting to watch the different lines taken by Sean and Steve ie 2 stroke lines in the corners verses the 4 stroke lines, thanks for the upload guys keep em coming
Cheers, the lads were on fire, it was such a fun one to make
Max, 1 word...... Epic! Your content gets better and better and i find myself eagerly awaiting your next video! Thank you
Thanks Luke:)
That was great racing, it reminded me of racing my Aprilia AF1 125 38bhp against 500 4 strokes, but It never took me 4 laps to get in front even when I started at the back of the grid and that thing was faster than my old RD350 YPVS, I wish I could still race but I broke my back in 2001 but still raced the 125 until 2003, Brands Hatch was my near to home circuit that I raced on with that and my V twin SV650 MK1, Ducati 750 sport and 2003 Aprilia Mille RSV, being a lightweight on a lightweight 125 was great fun
I'm 53 and 6"3 and I still enjoy taking out a big wheel KX85
I actually still enjoy constant gear shifts, braking etc. I'll never be fat or cruise around on a four stroke 450.
@999lazer Awesome video guys, happy to help out and was amazing to see Steve attacking those corners! It was a great race 👊✊💨
Cheers Guys, Thanks for the loan, the GasGas was awesome. Sean has some photos from the day to give you :)
That was the best dirtbick race ive seen in a while 👍
Back in Jr High school, my buddy got a brand New 1993' KX80! That Thing was an official ripper! I had a Yamaha Blaster, a Honda Trail 70, and a 5hp gocart.. Nothing could prepare me for the Powerband of that KX! I whiskey throttled it on more than one occasion! 😂 Since then I've had many 125's, a couple 250's and even a 95' CR500! NOTHING I have had or even ridden had a Powerband like that little KX80! THEY were fast back then, I can't imagine how much fun they are to ride Now?! 😂
Wow ❤ it very much always watching 999lazer thnx max.
Seeing all these comments of old guys on 85s make me love my little kx112 more. Thank you.
What a race! 10/10 fpv pilot!!!
This is such a great channel. Great content as ever. One quick point though, I raced a Suzuki RM80 in 1979 and that bike was definitely not a garden bike! 👍
I thort the same, I had a 84 rm 80 and that thing was a missile, good race tho, best iv seen in a while
I’m a grown man and I love riding the 80cc 2 strokes. I can’t believe their made for kids. Running flat out they feel faster than my 250 and produce way more smiles per hour.
Mate , unless your racing , that's what it's all about - putting a smile on your face . For their size the little bastards fly ! And make a bucket load of awesome noise . It's funny , when your a kid 85s are like "yea whatever" but it when your an adult you realise how quick they really are !
Keep em coming 👍
Would like to see some tests on enduro bikes
Im a simple man, I Came for the sound of that little ripper and stayed for the great battle. Thanks Max
What a great GREAT video !!!!! My daughter has a 2001 CR80 honda and it is way way too fast for 2 wheels !!!! I have crashed it a couple times over the years and am not allowed to ride it anymore lol - this is the greatest most fun video I ever watched !!! I was jumping from my chair pulling for the screaming YZ !!!! Congrats to both riders giving it their all and for fun - even makes it that much better !!!!! Thank you 999laz for all you share with our great sport !!!! Now everyone fire up the 2 strokes !!!!
Thanks Mike:)
It's not the plane, it's the pilot.
Very true! Thanks for watching dude :-D
I started out on a fourstroke quad when I was 13. But I always loved the sound and smell of a twostroke. Years later I got a 98 YZ250 when I was 21. That bike plus a bunch of Kawie stand up Jet Skis set in motion this passion I've had ever since. There's nothing like the sound or smell of a 2 smoke that doesn't give me chills and an instant hit of nostalgia. I'll ride a smoke till I choke!
Fantastic video! Sure do miss that 2 stroke sound! Was a pretty neat race
25 hp from an 85cc is wild. Nearly 300 hp per liter.
That was cool! Love the sound of a 2-stroke at full song. But I'm about as interested in the specs on the drone used. The drone footage was the best part.
I got a 73 YZ 80 in 76 and loved that bike. Great vid!!!
Thanks for watching Johnny :-D
Super good!!! Thanks Lazer!!!
Thanks for watching my dude
Drone footage is really amazing, brilliant concept for a video Max.
Thanks Thomas! :-D Our drone guy Dan is a top class operator and super fun to have around on the shoots. He loves to push the limits of what he can do with the FPV drone, and this is definitely some of his best work :-D
These type of videos are top notch to watch , many thanks !!!!
Glad you like them! Cheers Max
Steve riding style is awesome. Very nice movement on the bike. Difference between PRO and weekend warrior is noticeable 👍🏼
Awesome often wondered along these lines. Early 90s Dad got me a 87 KX80 and he could not believe that I could leave his early-mid 70s Bultaco 350 in the dust. lil two strokes rock!
It's all about how much you want to twist that grip hey! ;-D Thanks for watching dude :-D
@@999lazer True. Also I think some eras just made huge leaps forward maybe electric is the leap of this era. 75-85 saw proper gas monoshock, expansion chambers, disc brakes, liquid cooling. Then 85-00 two stroke perfected without distortion to the cc rules. Would love to see a classic mx (scrambler) vs modern bike shoot out - suspension instead of power might be the decider.
Bloody awesome 999lazer, Loved it
glad you enjoyed it Mark:)
Banging episode max! One of my favourites 👍
Thanks Charlie
That was an epic dual and extremely good to watch. I personally called it before i started watching and it was a good call but effing close
That was friggin Awesome! Well done to both riders, you guys ripped it out there! Love hearing that 2 stroke sing. Reminds me when i got beat by some young kid on an 85 and i was riding a kx(real kx) 250. No offense to the non smokers but i love 2 strokes. Great job again guys!
Glad you enjoyed it Charles :)
There's something about a well tuned 2 stroke on the pipe that sings my soul lullaby's. Great riding by both!
You just can't beat that sound man! Thanks for watching Jason :-)
Good to see a blue 85 ripping instead of one of those orange things 😅
In my opinion these are by far the nicest looking 85s out there!
Absolutely brilliant riding 👌🏼
Thanks for watching:)
That was such an awesome video. Great race I was screaming for the 85 to go!!!
Thanks for watching Tdog, so glad you had fun watching :-D
Saved up half a year and got my first MX bike, a YZ80D, in 1979 at age 12. Later in life around 30th BD got a 1996 YZ250 2-stroke, got back into riding. Loved both. But life got in the way...
Fast forward 25 years. Just finished building a 29kW (36hp) Surron, and I'm smiling like a little kid again, taking it on 'mild' MX tracks.
Build video is on my channel.
That was such fun to watch. Excellent challenge, so exciting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
My god what a race. My god. That was so cool. That 85 was putting in work.
The videography and commentary are great on this!
Thanks Mason :-D
That was far too much fun!! Super tense 😂😂 absolutely brilliant guys ❤️
Thanks :)
That was plain awesome, thanks..
Thanks, really appreciate your comment :)
Personally I loved the kx 100 big wheel. Had a ttr125 for a pitbike at the time. And found my self riding the kx ever chance I got and letting my buddies ride the ttr. Absolutely loved it. For trails and everything except slow wheelies. I imagine a fly wheel swap would take care of that
That looked so fun!
That's the best race I've seen in 5 years 😅
That was FUN! Damn! Excellent video! Subscribed 👍
Thanks Rich:)
That was a bad ass race nice video I loved it
Omg what a race, that was so close! Great content max I had my heart in my mouth all the way 🏁🏁🏁winners!
Thanks Dean. It was a fun one to make :)
Awesome vid, that 85 from Roland is a weapon 👌🏻
You forgot to mention Eddie Jay Wade being an 85cc world champion onboard one of Mark Woodage's machines at MJW specialist
We did a video with Eddie way back in his 65 days, it was awesome to see him win the world title in 2017 i think it was! We also did a video with Mark back when he ran a Kawasaki MX team as well ( i want to say that was in 2013 maybe..)
Some epic racing at the end ❤
it was awesome to watch, cheers :)
This was awesome! I enjoy all your videos, but this one is up there, i got my son a 2010 65sx, and the thing blows my mind with its power, and so fun to ride…
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a rider Steve is..remember him doing the AMA Nationals in 2010.
Great entertainment guys! Some great scrubs and great drones too. Awesome!
Thanks for watching Darren, glad you enjoyed it! :-D
That was awesome! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Should definitely make this a series!! Or attempt at one with a mini series to start it off or something. But i think I can speak for all of us in that we'd definitely watch that and tune in every week
We've got some cool plans for this concept, thanks for the support uncle Yetti :-D
Awesome video guys!
Thanks dude :-D
That's awesome! I always wondered what would happen!
Cheers Dave, We loved making this one :)
What a great video, well done
Thanks for watching Darren :-D
That was such an awesome video to watch, had me whooping at the screen 😂, good job guys 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
That was awesome, loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
man, i still remember waking up on christmas to a YZ85 when i was a child. one of my favorite memories
So awesome! Thanks for watching dude
This was absolutely awesome. 🤙
Thanks Sparky:)
I ride a 250 2 stroke but the most fun I've ever had was a KX100. Not practical all of the time but sure is fun to kick it around the woods.
My kid has kept his 85 even though he's now on a 250.
I ride a KTM 525.
But he and I still enjoy taking the 85 out for fun.
Brilliant video. TY
Glad you enjoyed it
Fun video. Good camera work.
Miss my 96 cr125! Great riding and fantastic race. Remember the transition into 4 stroke vs 2 stroke; wasn't it 450 vs 250?
Thanks :)
that was great Shredding Steve and the track was superb soil
great drone too now can i have one of those bikes?
The drone footage took that video to a whole new level, superb.
Thanks for watching
OMG! That bail at the start was savage!
That was my favourite race so far mental
Effin' awesome video! Yea Yamaha!
Dude that was awesome!!
Glad you enjoyed it dude :-D
That YZ sounds beautiful man,I love the small bikes, dont get hurt on them as much.
I had my buddy, who was a pro rider on the SX & MX circuit give my a half lap lead on the task and he caught me!
I was on his race 125 and he had a stock CRF 100 and he cleaned me out in a corner, laughing for hours afterwards- I didn't find it funny
Amazing and very exiting.
More like this please.👍👏🐝
Thank you! Will do!
Brilliant video. I'm off to buy an 85. Fingers crossed it can haul my 23stone around...
haha cheers :)
Holy crap. That was awesome. I was yelling at my phone
Haha Glad you enjoyed it Tom, thanks for watching dude :-D
I raced in the Elsinore GP vintage class on my 500 2 stoke and Jeremy McGrath on a 125 Elsinore. Jeremy smoked everyone...
That was fun!
That was absolutely brilliant 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
cheers :)
