Since the dawn of dirt bikes the rivalry flame has burned between 2 strokes and 4 strokes. There does not exist a more prevalent difference in the motorcycle industry than that of the 2 VS 4 feud. In this video we share our unbiased experience with both motors leaving nothing aside. Completely transparent, we get down to the dirty business between both bikes. With over 20 years experience we share 14 key differences that we feel exist between 2 strokes and 4 strokes. Watch the video to learn which bike is best for you.

Here's a quick one for trail riders, if your going to spend over 50% of your time running top end 5th gear tapped run 450 4 stroke. More than 50% of the time if your riding windy hilly terrain run 300 2 strokes. If you're like me and do 50/50 of the two. Buy both and plan your rides according to the bike you choose for the day. This is by far the most thorough, thoughtful and comprehensive video on the difference of engines! Luv it. Had to go through like 5 other time wasting videos to find this one. Pure Signal. Thank you!
This is the kind of summation I was looking for. This young man is informed and offers a, mostly non-biased, take on what a off-road newbie, like myself, is looking for. Many thanks for sharing your insights.
From the beginning I already knew that this guy knows what he’s talking about
Wrong!
Torque is your corner enter speed.
If you enter corners too fast, you adjust torque.
Engine designers build take off power.
It has nothing to do with the rider tuning the bike.
They limited YOU at the factory.

This is the best, unbiased comparison I've seen. I like them both. I grew up on 2 strokes and now ride a 4 stroke, but that's because of the type of riding I do. I can totally see why people choose a 2 stroke for more tight, technical stuff. The goal is to have one of each 😄
Very professional video! I've ridden both and have seen a ton of research on why one is better than the other but NEVER have I seen such a good compilation in ONE video explaining it all so well. Great work guys!
I had a yz85 when I was 14 and I loved that little 2 stroke. That powerband would pop the front end up so quick. I was in love with it
2 strokes just so much more fun in general, although i really enjoy my 450 for high speed desert riding, and my 2 stroke can be a struggle on some jumps out of corners on the main moto tracks.
hmmmm. i have lots of fun on 2 of 4 strokers !!
I think 2 strokes are better sounding and it's really fun to go into the power band, 4 strokes just are good at a lot of things.
I have a 4 stroke but I kinda want a 2 stroke after looking at this video
We all just need 1 of each.
@Ben T. 2 strokes are more fun but 4 strokes are more practical. 2 strokes have a really weird power band that makes it super hard to actually use the power from the bike. 4 strokes have a very even power band that steadily clubs with rpm. If you plan on just riding casually 2 strokes are a great choice but with any competitive racing you would want to go with a 4 stroke since it's usually not the bikes limits on a track. It's the rider/track that set limits, and using something that you can control a lot better is obviously more beneficial for lap times and consistent riding
Really top tier video in every way! Great filming, editing, and as always, fantastic riding. The information is also excellent. Nice work guys!

I can honestly say this was the most informative and honest 12 minutes I have ever experienced on youtube, great Job! I would like to add to the qualifying list of 2 vs 4 stroke subject. If your an old guy like me trying to relive your childhood on a bike and don't want to be competitive, theres something to the sound and feel of a 2 stroke that is much of the fun! If all you want to do is pull up the front wheel here and there and and toss some dirt at under 30 mph that peak pull as you hit the pipe will make squirting around your property feel faster then it is!
Thank you for putting this comparison together! I’ve wanted to give dirt bike riding a try and this is well done.

One of the best 2t vs 4t videos. Modern 4t definitely has the upper hand in just about everything. That being said my vote is 2t for dirtbike any day. It is just more fun to ride leisurely.
Upper hand in motocross maybe. But in hard enduro 2 strokes reign supreme. This seems to be forgotten in the US though since this riding style is much more popular in Europe
@Single Sucks That's not even close to hard enduro, that's desert racing. Look up hard enduro, Graham Jarvis, you won't find a single 4 stroke.
@@LizardHunter777 you will but he usually rides a 2 stroke. But he still ripped sith the four stroke even tho its heavier
They only have the upper hand if the rider isn't a very good one. any person on a 2 stroke that knows what he's doing will leave the 4 stroke in the mist
If same cubic inch displacement, no chance 4 stroke would win from 2 stroke
You guys sound so you really know what you’re doing. Very well put together and detailed information. Just looking into off-road riding in addition to my on road and track riding
This is the best "2T vs 4T" video that I have seen, period. Well done!
Great video! As someone new to dirtbikes I personally like 4 strokes due to their predictability which allows me to focus more on technique and myself rather than focusing on not accidentally hitting the powerband and dying lol.
Yeah, I love 4 strokes for the same reason, I love the smooth ride and don't have to mess with the clutch all of the time
Don't break your wrist. Or Stay in The R's and Pin to Win!! No surprise When Haul Ass is applied. Ride a Mixer or Ride Ur Sister. 2smoker4life
Sometimes you gotta throw caution into the wind or its pointless to have a bike
power valves and adjustable ignition map switches can be tuned on modern 2 strokes, they can be tuned to act almost like a 4 stroke with a very linear power band, and they can be tuned to hit their peak output so fast it will rip the bars from your hand, it used to be hit or miss if you bought the wrong bike before variable power valves, some were literally death traps especially for inexperienced riders that isn't the cases anymore and hasn't been for a long while
@@canton7180 i’ve been wanting to get a dirt bike but i’m debating on getting a 2 or 4 stroke i’m leaning more towards 4 tho

I love me the consistent predictability of the torque in 4 strokes through the entire band. I want to pull the throttle and get the torque I want all the way through, not just in a specific spot
2 stroke is mid to top you just got to stay on the throttle. It's consistent you just can't be lazy like on a 4 stroke.

I'm an "old guy," and when i did mx and half mile (occasional trials), the only 4 strokes were in the open class in half mile. when i hear the term "two stroke" i would swear that i smell Blendzall in the air... lol. That said, i too have owned both, and both have their places... this was the finest explanation of the differences that i have ever seen... you rock! I hope that you will do more of such well detailed teachings in the future... suspension, tires, rake/trail, and the one i think most needed is MX bike vs Enduro (including street legal and not) - so many people that will *never* race buy mx bikes to do off-road... this is frequently not the best choice, since mx bikes are so finely honed to a specific purpose... (ok, off my soapbox) PLEASE keep up the good work... that was truly EXCELLENT!!
LOVE 2-stroke SOUND!
Brilliant video very informative, one huge point you forgot to mention is that 2 strokes demand a much more skilled rider to achieve the same as a lesser skilled rider on a 4t, which is why the real goats like carmichael reed pastrana etc can all ride both. iv seen alot of lads at the local tracks look like absolute amateurs when they borrow their mate 2t and yet are relatively quick on their tractors! 2t for men 4t for girlies lmfaoo
I owned 2 strokes all my life. Right now I have a 2005 CR 250 R. I boared it out to 286. The only problem I’ve always had living in southern Arizona is having the fuel mixture right with all our temperatures vary so much down here, hot to cold and fixed the AIR FUEL mixture. .
Now I’m riding a 2023 CRf 250 RX , it’s a four stroke. I’m not worried about fuel mixture anymore. It’s fuel injection ,electric start. It has three power modes ,,,that help so well on Narly trails, The power modes are great.! Thank you for your wonderful video😽

I like the 4 stroke engine sound because it sounds more like an efficient high performance engine and not like a chainsaw but I also love the 2 stroke sound because it sounds like it's ripping everything it touches to shreds with sheer willpower and facemelting power. As for the performance, I've never ridden anything 2stroke other than a 92 snowmobile lol but it seems intimidating and fun
For a noob like me (i got a four stroke) it was bwoah bwoah braaaaa so basically i almost killed the bike and it took like 5 seconds to get to the powerband but it was my mistake
4 strokes definitely have a high performance sound but it's not an efficient sound. it's the sound of brute force and brute force ain't efficient

When learning motocross at a young age or even just starting out I always recommend using two strokes, they help you learn clutch and throttle control and when you learn on a four stroke I see it all too often that they create a “lazy” riding technique that is not good in any way. I started on a two stroke but I would love a four stroke now for the track, I feel like once you learn on a two stroke for motocross you can pretty much jump on anything and have no issues. @@lucananni8807 4 strokes are being pushed in racing for several reasons. EPA regulations and the companies focusing on selling the 4 strokes are 2 of the biggest reasons. Many places restrict 2 strokes and the AMA has been harsh on 2 stroke's in competition.
