I'm glad to hear you kept an open mind about the 450! The 2008 450sx I started on was the wrong bike for both my skill and the type of riding I did most of the time. Fast forward a few years and I have way more skill and control than I did back then. Couple that with the fact that these newer generation bikes handle sooo much better and are more manageable than the early 2000s 450 bikes, and I have a hoot on my 2017 Husky 450.

When it is all about fun every point you made is on point. When I was a dealer back in 2008 we took a WR 250 and a WR 450 to a HS trail we raced and rode often. There were 4 of us all racers from C-A between 28 to 45 years old we did a bunch of laps going back and forth between the bikes and times every lap. Everyone without exception said they were faster on the 450, everyone without exception was faster on the 250.

i really wish Honda made a 350 four stroke. it'd be the best thing ever! i grew up racing motocross and have ridden most of my life with the exception of the last 5 years which haven't been good to myself or my family. i want to get another bike again but i don't think i'll be getting a motocross bike, i'm thinking more along the lones of a KTM 350XC or the Honda CRF250RX. i had a 2013 CRF450R and while it was a great bike i prefer the agility of the 250f which is also why i like the idea of the 350. my last bike was a 2015 Husqvarna FE350S which was a dual purpose bike and it was amazing! the only thing i didn't like was the 6 speed gear box but i was able to fix that with the countershaft sprocket. excellent videos keep up the good work.

I have an a fuel injected 300 2T and a new WR 450 and I find it the best combo! The 2T is my go to bike for all technical/difficult rides but the 450 just makes me happy and excited in all fast and loose terrains. If I needed to keep only one, it’d be the 2 stroke… but that is just my preference. I’m sure you can do anything in any of my bikes…it is just a matter of practice.

Still torn between the two - I got super lucky and found a great deal on a 2019 450R, and absolutely love it! But, it has a ton of power, too much at times... I've ridden 250 four strokes, and love them as well! But, not enough power at times... While I would love a brand new 450RX, I think that if I get the chance, that I would choose the 250 as a second bike - would be better for me in a lot of different circumstances As much as I'm hoping for Honda to pull their heads out and build me a 350RX - here's to hoping to win the 250 and throw a RedMoto 300 kit on it!

The crf250 unexpected stalling, because of the lack of torque was a real pain. You would be ascending a narley hill, all was going well, then bam, stalls. Sliding backwards and crash inevitable. The other problem was longevity of valves and top end was poor, just too much maintence needed. I switched to 2 stroke, but i now want e start again (buying used). So it will be a 450 this time.

Looking at 250 or a 450 having not owned a dirt bike in 10 years I’m not sure what to get. Looking to trail ride and logging roads mainly.. being 250lb and 6’4” I’m leaning toward a 450 but it’s been years since I’ve ridden. What’s your opinion?

I have an 09 KX450 and a 2020 SX450F. Both flame out if the RPM drops too low. Very annoying and it's hard to avoid in tight woods. I've rode a KTM 300 two stroke that would just chug along.

That is exactly why the KTM 300's are so popular. Fits nicely right in between and you can largely have the best of both worlds.

Agree with all of your comments. If you only have one bike, you'd be foolish to not choose a 250. Period. The debate should be "should I get a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke" if you only have one bike. A 450 should also never be your first bike. If you are unsure about a 250 vs 450, then you should get a 250. If you have the skills to ride a 450, you wouldn't need to debate it with yourself or anyone else. 450 is a great second bike, if you have the money and skills.

I've owned 450's in the past as my only enduro bike and would no doubt go 450 again if I won this contest, period. Being 225lbs a 250 just doesn't have enough power for me and my riding style and terrain. Foolish no! My last bike was a 350 and I always felt like I could use a little more. I've also been riding for 40 years and currently own a TX300.
