That’s the best overview of the financial situation of the carmaker industry I have seen. Thanks!

"Have subsidies ever worked" Yes. But only when used with tariffs. The USA used such devices early after its independence, in order to stop the already well established European companies it used both tariffs and government funding to establish its own industrial revolution. I think we can agree it was pretty successful.

Subsidies work in a few examples but particularly if they are temporary to overcome an issue…say EVs being too expensive until the costs reduce.

Thanks for that, makes a lot of sense. I always thought it was going to be tough for legacy makers to ramp down ice production and simultaneously ramp up evs and keep the company stable. I now understand a bit more about just how difficult it will be. Thanks

Hyundai sold 3 factories in China for massive losses to other Chinese car makers. As they were the only takers. One went for 50% of the cost to build it.

As always CEOs look for short term share prices. They will be running another company when the one they are in now goes bankrupt.
Subsidies and tariffs worked in Australia to keep GM and Ford an 80% market share for nearly 40 years, then they found a cheaper manufacturing model closed their factories here and took the money without so much as a; Thanks.

An excellent synopsis of the unsustainable financial trap that corporations, politicians and lawyers have cleverly laid for us. Are we doomed or is there a sustainable way out?

Thankfully Joe can afford to give plenty of money to any company with a UAW Union workforce. Whilst still pretending that Tesla does not exist.

A Billion $ shared among auto Cos. is irrelevant. VW spent $2.6 Billion to refit just ONE ICE assembly plant - it took them years, because VW previously relied on Grohmann Engineering (now Tesla Automation) to design factories. VW execs outsourced all their thinking- outsourced their 🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠🧠
