  • Another really interesting steam gala at the Severn Valley Railway, with a lttle added drama when the water tank of visiting Bagball locomotive “Vulcan” couldn’t bee topped up and it was thought the fire would have to be dropped!

    Nice one Gareth. Looks like you had some pretty good weather for the Gala. I am glad that Taw Valley is going to be repainted green. I accept that it is up to the loco owners to choose its livery, but it is in British Railways rebuilt condition so does not look right in black with "Southern" on the tender. I like the 3-cylinder chuff though.

    Looks like another beautiful day there with you. Some lovely footage and interesting the problem they had with watering the visiting tank...you'd have thought they would have worked through the logistics before firing her? Good to see so many people on the railway line as we're heading out of season.

      Yes, I was surprised the staff didn’t think about the height of the engine and the problem they would have refilling the tank. They were lucky they found a suitable water column. The driver and fireman were becoming quite worried as the loco tank was almost empty.
