Hello, I am Swedish and no one I know eat it without supplements as mashed potatoes, flat bread, sourcream, chopped chives and red onion. Then we can make a roll of the flat bread together with all ingredients. Next time try to opened under water. Enjoy with a cold beer ;-)
This would be served the same way we serve rakfisk (also fermented fish) in Norway. With thin bread, onion, potatoes, creme fraiche, beer and schnapps.
Swedish for soured herring, it is a fermented herring that has been a staple of traditional northern Swedish cuisine since at least the 16th century. Just enough salt is used to prevent the raw fish from rotting. A fermentation process of at least six months gives the lightly-salted fish its characteristic strong smell and somewhat acidic taste. When opened, the contents release a strong and sometimes overwhelming odour, and according to a study, has one of the most putrid food smells in the world.
I have watched several of these videos and it seems like when you do it outside it is not as bad but when you do this in the in the house it is much stronger smelling maybe that's why they can't smell it as bad since you're outside just saying
its the smell from the open can that makes people wanna puke , vomit , so after you open it , take out the fish place it on a plate and clean it from the guts and add potatoes and garlic and sallad , bred then eat it , your not suppose to eat only the fish , cuz its very very salty , and put the open empty can in the trash , not under your nose while trying to eat the fish .
The girl in red won the challenge. She handled it like a champ!
