    Howl's Moving Castle is also one of my favorites but my all time favorite cozy read is Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin. It's basically a very loose retelling of Wizard of Oz woven with Chinese folk tales and mythology. It's the most charming, heartwarming book of all time. I highly recommend that one, I think you would really enjoy it and you're my favorite cozy youtuber. All of your videos have this super calming effect that I've become obssessed with lately. I've discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I feel so lucky! Lots of love all the way from Istanbul xo

    Wow! So many interesting books! Totally agree that Samwise is the creator of cottage core! I'm planning on reading Lord of the Rings next month.... I got the book in July, was dying to read it but may have specifically saved it for Autumn so the air, the darkness, the blankets and jumper weather would make me just feel like I was sat round a fire being told a story! Also, Great Expectations, I have that on my TBR and hearing you talk about it has just bumped it up the list!
    My cosy book rec: The Railway Children by E. Nesbit is probably one of my favourite books of all time not just favourite cosy book! It is probably intended for children's really but to me, the first line, it's like waiting for the sunrise at the beginning of the lion king or the opening chord of the star wars theme, its so exhilarating and leaves such a fuzzy feeling - anyway, plot summerised in a sentence, after their father is mysteriously taken away, they go to live in a cottage and its just about their daily life living by a in the countryside by a railway. Love it!

Its set in the 1842 and is about a girl who has to leave her beautiful high class life in London and move to the West Country to her cousin's country home. • @TheIrisMessenger
    @TheIrisMessenger Před 3 lety

    I think my favorite cozy books are less about atmosphere (though Murakami does transcend that rule) and more about pure/loving relationships. If I were to do a video like this I would recommend Ari & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe or This is How You Lose the Time War.
    Murakami has that way of writing that is intricate and meandering but ultimately paired back in his description. I think sometimes when authors try to create atmosphere, they fill the world too full and there’s no space for the characters to develop. Great video Emma!

    also, I found a book kinda similar to after dark! Or, at least, in the takes-place-in-one-night sorta sense through Shaelin's (Reedsy) channel and I haven't read it yet, but it's called Untold Night and Day by Bae Suah, from what I've gathered it's about a woman spending her last night at her box office job in an audio theatre

Just one thing, could you add a section of "mentioned books" or something like that to your description box, with the books you talk about or mention and a Goodreads link maybe, so it's easier to find? I've found especially in your reading vlogs that you sometimes name-drop a book that makes me curious and that I'd like to check out, or you'll have a very specific edition that I then just can't find anywhere! ^^

    honestly I had no idea that 'barbie and 12 dancing princesses' was based on a book! haha 'entwined' is definitely a must read as the already mentioned movie is a childhood memory and a sweet one!!!
    ah and concerning other cosy books that I would recommend : 'adventures of Sherlock Holmes' should be in order!! XIXth century England in autumn is a surrounding we all thrive for.
    lots of warm hugs and kisses!! xoxo

    It's funny you mentioned Millay. I got a collection of hers recently in Maine. We had tried to go to the mountain she used to write on top of, but the trail was closed. So, when we were at the café that has the smallest bookstore in the back, Hello Hello Books, I got a collection of her poetry. I love it! :) Also, The Lord of the Rings is what I watch at Christmas time. It's either that, or Harry Potter. Idk why I find The Lord of the Rings as Christmas related but it feels wrong not watching it then now. It's like the least Christmas feeling movie ever. Haha

    I love Great Expectations! But I think my favorite Dickens is Oliver Twist. You convinced me to put Matilda on hold at the library. I feel like I am one of the few book lovers who didn't read Matilda as a child. Time to fix that!

    Hi Emma, love your content and feel bad for not having said hello before. A cosy read for me would have to be I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith. Also, I recently read Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa, and oh, it gave me all the feels! Such a comforting novel that I found just when I needed it. Have a good day.

    I listened to Howl’s Moving Castle read by Diana Wynne Jones and it was so wonderful! I’m a little sad that she didn’t also read the sequels.
