  • How to ignore rider recommendations and still, somehow, make a good "bike".
The Engwe M20 has one job, be fun.
It's good at it, but is that good enough?
The Engwe M20 is a café style electric fat bike with a single and dual battery option.
Each battery is 13Ah (26Ah total).
It claims to have a 750 running / 1000 peak motor.
Based off of my testing I estimate 12-15~miles of full throttle operation per battery, and 20-25~ miles or relaxed riding per battery.
Pedal assist can't practically be applied to increase range on the M20.

I have one on order and after I review it I will be doing similar modifications.
Dual Hub Motor sounds good but I also have the opportunity to try a mid motor set up to see if it works.

I love mine. It draws alot of attention. And the customization possibilities endless. I flipped my seat around so the tall end is by the battery. It helps. I also swapped the location of the computer and gear selector. I had to flip the gear selector upside down to make it work. But it actually made gear shifting way more intuitive.

Your narration is so fluent like reading a script and easy to listening.
I came across this video for more info about this bike,
but on the way I felt like that I found a good material for listening training.haha
    Thank you from Japan.

I too had a pocket bike when I was younger, your right they are so much fun! But super illegal. That’s where the motorized bikes come in!

I'm about to receive this bike directly from Engwe and I must say your video was great!
You help me a lot understanding what the target of this bike is, and I can't wait to see more customisation on it.
Anyway: have you tried unlocking the max power of the e-bike in the settings? I think that could help in gaining more torque going uphill (you can still set a maximum speed limit for it to be legal).

    Another awesome video and information...!!!!
    I really like this bike...
Can you add in your videos how much the bikes weigh...????
For me , as a hotshot driver and on the road for 3 weeks out of the month, I would have to load and unload the bike from the back of my cab and chassis truck...
I took the bed off to reduce weight

it’s legally considered a moped or motorcycle in the uk since it doesn’t conform to EAPC guidelines

    How tall are you?
Engwe now as a rear rack option, its expensive though.

I have one on the way. Do you think a different controller would help with hills and other performance?

    • @LAHover
      @LAHover  Před rokem +1

I do suspect the lack of power to be the controller. When installing the 2nd battery I noticed the controller used some rather light gauge motor wires. If my memory is correct, It's either a 20 or 22 amp controller.

@@LAHoveryeah 20amps would only be a peak of 1kw at a completely full battery with the power tapering off as the battery drains. This thing should have like a 30-35amp controller that would give it the extra oomph that people feel it's lacking.

I wonder if it would be possible to mount a 49 cc bike motor on it for pedal assist

    • @LAHover
      @LAHover  Před rokem +2

If I remove the lower battery for sure. May have to customize a jackshaft because the frame has twin seat tubes.

I use a 360 camera for the side shots.
This one is from Insta360, (GoPro has one too).
It's able to film literally everything with no blind spots.
Software in the camera hides the selfie stick, but you can still see it in the shadows in a few shots.

I'd love to find a frame like this with the same or similar rear suspension. Only thing I have seen so far are mini bike frames without pedals. Sadly the pedals are required to keep the cops at bay.
