    Looks to be a nice unit. I don't have Overland but Rapido passenger cars are extremely picky about the track. I had to cut some of the underside to run on mine. I think passenger coaches are more sensitive to track problems in general.Scott

These units will not let me give them a specific address, they keep replacing the # I give with factory default 3. I had no issue installing a new Bachmann with basic spin. I read that I can change the cc289. Is this true? I plan to eve finally 'st abooster but in the time being I'd like to quick remedy.also,the club I could f gone to has disbanded. Any help would be great. Thank you!

    flanges on the wheels some are too much overhang hit a high spot an derail take a mic to the OD of the wheel.I spent hours and hours to figure this out. A a particular car always derailed and could not find why it until I gave the car a shove and a high spot at a joint and this one car would derail, ground the flange down a bit and those cars would run for hours and were perfectly tuned and lubed.

    I'd buy it for the sheer reason of it being the best version of 3977 anyone has done, I dont think Lionel did this number, otherwise id get the lionel. Soundtraxx continues to be unimpressive compared to the competition, but im glad Athearn makes a dcc ready version and doesnt force you to have soundtraxx

    Incredible locomotive, breath taking. James I have a question. If I do a review on a locomotive on You Tube can I be brutally honest about it. I bought a Bachmann locomotive HO Scale an to be honest its a piece of garbage. Sad to say I am being kind. I don't want to get myself in trouble but I don't want to tell people a bunch of lies either. Notice LOL I didn't mention which one it is. Keep up the good work on your reviews James. Very professional and always informative.

    Hi, would you by any chance have any 00 scale British locomotives? If so, how out of scale do they look next to HO North American locos as i am planning on getting a Challenger (Probably 3985) Big Boy (Probably 4014) to do an imaginary special excursion and double head her with an A4 or something just for a bit of fun!

    • @trainzillamodelrailroading9905
      @trainzillamodelrailroading9905 Před 8 lety +1

      Why would he have any British engines? Also American ho is 1:87 scale wile British ho is 1:78 scale. So 0.11 is the amount that it is off scale. To be honest, I'm not quiet a fan of British engines :/ they can't pull much in real life or in ho scale. The first time I got a British dcc engine and tested it I was disgusted. A high pitched whistle and it performed very poorly on inclines and could not pull ANYTHING. I here British engines go fast and well good for you but most engines don't have use if they can't pull more then 2 cars on level track. I blame your wheel configurations and it's lack of weight.

    • @jamesmckelvey
      @jamesmckelvey Před 8 lety +1

      Thanks, one of the reasons our locomotives are so light is because of railway viaducts that date back to George Stephenson, if we had locomotives the weights they are in North America the Victorian infrastructure would crumble, and it'd be pretty expensive to replace. I do completely agree that this effects haulage capability however rail is usually passenger in Britain so there is little need for long consists, and when we do require a moderately long freight consists (still tiny in comparison to consists in North America) we just hook up one or two Canadian built Class 66's. To be honest, I knew the difference in scale, however due to Britain having a very small loading gauge compared to North America's comparatively large loading gauge I was wondering if the model locomotives would look similar in size due to the scale difference, but thanks anyway! Also, what British locomotive did you get, what manufacturer and what year was it from (if you know)? Because I have many new hornby models and in my opinion they are pretty good at haulage, obviously I cannot compare these to North American locomotives as i have none so my opinion has its flaws, however my best hauler would be Hornby's recently released P2 Class named "Cock O' The North" (an odd name I know). Finally, you may find a British locomotive on an North American layout A: many British locomotives ran in North America on excursion services, for example, A3 Class "The Flying Scotsman" and the Princess Coronation Class "Duchess of Hamilton" (known in North America as "Coronation"), and B: there are many British locomotives in American Railroad museums, for example A4 Class "Dwight D' Eisenhower" which served as Dwight D' Eisenhower's mobile command base during WWII and the British A4 could be seen steaming around the US; and A4 Class "Dominion Of Canada" fittingly in a railway museum Canada. Anyway, I love British and North American locomotives alike and was just wondering what they look like to the eye in model form standing side by side. :-)

      +Dr. Jak G. Cogsworth oh, and British Steam Locomotives have high whistles in real life so the whistle on the locomotive you have is realistic
