Asur and D. Avengers aren't bad, just match up dependent and that means other options that do not share that flaw and have a similar cost are better.
Fair point, a lot of people would rather take triple Spectres for around the same cost
First just got back from day 1 of 2 day tournament, I still like his free overwatch and dev on his sword. He also has a beastly 3+ invul with Fuegan beside him they are decent front-line choices along with the 10 man wraithguard and spiritseer.
It’s a great combo in my experience but you definitely want to couple his ability with another Overwatch each turn to make the most out of it!
Latest "oops all aspects" list i did i found out that Asurmen and squad of 10 avengers work really well from reserves. I can come in from side, clear objective with shooting and afterwards lock it down pretty good. Tactic that has worked out for me is feint opponent in thinking im going heavily on one side but using my mobility to make sure i can get to other places too. Avengers coming from the weak side with mayhaps some swooping hawks or warp spiders is powerful deterrent for weaker units or makes opponent overcommit harder.
Done waves and 2 squads of avengers with asurmen thing too and absolutely love the disruption it brings in.
Latest game my avengers with Asurmen cleared obj (squad of termagaunts) after coming from reserves, overwatched squad of hormagaunts, phantasmed to obj and finished last few hormagaunts during fight phase. 3rd turn managed to shoot at some warriors, then destroy 10 gargoyles and one winged character with 4+ overwatch and melee. I pretty much managed to take and hold entire flank with just one squad of avengers while rest of my army was fighting in the middle and far in the other flank. Had Warp spiders and swooping hawks ready to support if needed (love mobility warfare). Since 8th edition, always had Asurmen in 2k lists. Not stopping now. Such a good duelist and always has potential for insane clutches.
List (for 2k) was something like. Asurmen, Fuegan, Illic, Baharroth, 10 avengers, 5 fire dragons, 5 swooping hawks, 5 Dark reapers, 5 warp spiders, 5 rangers, 5 striking scorpions, 5 howling banshees, 3 shining spears, 3 shroud runners, 2 wave serpents and 2 falcons. Just something silly i did for casual game to test out some of my new stuff.
All aspects is really fun and I have found it is still quite strong on the tabletop!
Haha im glad im not the only one who calls him the assman, but i love him, been using him with 10 avengers in a wave serpent so i can get them up the board very quick and dump them out on a center objective, i rate him, he punched out a tank in melee on one of my games , that extra overwatch or just using it for a free overwatch is great so i can save my cp for phantasm and fire and fade as ive been using that more since the changes to phantasm
Oh absolutely! His free strat really frees up a lot of extra Cp over the course of the game and he is no slouch in combat either!
This is more theory crafting, but if you combine that with swooping hawk or warp spider DS, you can really lay out the fire down on heavily guarded spots. If you got warp spiders, even better. You can have both WS and Asurmen + DA Overwatch to double dip on shooting. Really good for missions like the Ritual

Im no master strategist so my ideas are usually defunct, But I've found some success with Assman 10 man and a gaggle of warp spiders for overwatch wont take down big targets but still fun against hordes, also devastating wounds so some guaranteed hits

I love Ass-man! He gives some much needed combat ability to avengers. If you get it right, you can really wreck face. Shoot, charge kill unit, consolidate, overwatch, phantasm. Rinse repeat.
Yep! Investment in the with strats is key to their success because yes as you said they can wreck if used properly

With the wording on tactical acumen, can a clever opponent bait you into using overwatch on him before using overwatch else where and negate the effect of getting two overwatches. Quick example. Your opponent moves a threatening unit of 26 Guardsmen in range of Asurmans unit, but not any other unit you control. If you use overwatch on Asurman now, you lose the ability to use a normal overwatch strategem later?
Correct! That is exactly right! Unfortunately makes it a bit awkward but there are a few counter plays an opponent can make
The problem is that GW aren't making new kits and they wont restock the old stuff.

I was wondering, the +1 to hit that he (and indeed all phoenix lords) gives the unit, does that apply on overwatch (ie they'll hit on a 3+ when on an objective) ? It just says "each time a model in that unit makes an attack, add 1 to the Hit roll".
Unfortunately it does not apply on Overwatch as Overwatch is always 6+ unless specified otherwise

Asurmen, 10 Dire Avengers and a Wave Serpent are 325 points. I have decided to go with Fuegan, five dragons and a Falcon instead for 15pts more. Partly because I like Dragons more aesthetically, the Falcon is an absolute gunship with Shuriken cannon and Brightlance, and partly because Fuegan is just great this edition. Also provides a very nasty deep strike threat your opponent has to seriously consider. Yes they can whiff but the falcon helps with that a bit...

Asurmen with 10 avengers overwatch combo with warp spider is dope ! Spiders could come from looooong way and put the opponent in a very tricky situation. And Asurmen tend to be VERY annoying to kill and his damage output in melee is good. He s almost all the time mvp when i bring him in batlle. To me his only drawback is the the model is old/horrible AF. Bring new model and he ll become almost auto include to me xD.

Wow, Dude. This looks so good. Very similar to What i run for mechdar atm except for the spinners being prisms. One thing i thought about was cutting prisms and going a third serpent with 2x5 tempest reapers for some more Boots on the Ground actually. There would still be points for shroud runners to give Them lethal. Feel that package fits Well. Between dragons, fuegan and the war walkers you still have decent anti tank. And avengers/reapers should cover your needs in regards to infantry. But maybe 2
Spinners is just better.
@@TobiasBukkehave If you want to go for more damage reapers are going to give you way more bang for your buck, but if you want board control to compliment Asurman and the Avengers then the spinners are going to be the pick every time. Really just depends on what your strategy is going into the game
The list I’m running is nasty and had a couple of my opponents in fits about what to even do about the insane level of board control.

@@PhO3NiX96 Not necessarily I like running a single squad of 10 myself but I’ve found that running two squads maximizes the Overwatch coverage and really gives Asurman a lot more influence.
