    I disagree that Fire prism don't have synergy with fate dice. Fire prisms are THE candidate for your 3s and 4s Strand of fate dice. Together with expert crafters you can almost guarantee 12 flat damage on anything without a inv save. In my opinion having a flat damage stat is a huge bonus, because you are not tapping at your limited SoF pool of sixes or your one farseer 6 per turn. Those can be used to counter enemy AT fire or for important charges instead.

    Intuitively I'm more attracted by the flexibility of "You thought you could hide" setup using 2FP. Most of the armies will align one big vehicle or monster, so the FP on the table will force opponent not to be too adventurous with his big thing and we can decide for the good moment to bring the second FP to trade it.

    I totally get the idea that flat 6 damage cheats us out of utilizing fate dice the way we do for a Bright Lance, but the way I see it, it's a free 6 without using any fate dice in exchange for slightly less damage. No need to have a farseer jogging behind the prism to offer up 6s. I know it's still technically a loss over what Bright Lance offers for the points. I guess this is just the glass-half-full mentality.
    HOWEVER
    I'm iffy on Linked Fire, largely for personal reasons. I don't like the incentive to get multiple prisms. I like to keep my units to one of a kind unless it's troops or unless I *really* like painting them. It might not be competitive, and judging by the data we have so far Anti-vehicle is going to be incredibly important, but I'm just not sure I want to paint up two of these things just to take advantage of a single rule. (This is just a me thing. No shade on those who want to run multiple prisms!)
    I would sooner choose my targets carefully from the prism's extreme range, and let a Crimson Hunter with Bright Lances and pulse laser (looking forward to the stats on that gun) pop in and take out the more risky/terrain blocked targets.

    • @ProxyHammer1
      @ProxyHammer1  Před rokem +2

      Ya flat 6 is totally fine I’m just thinking from a points perspective it might be more cost effective in the first few turns to run the regular old BL but time will tell!
      I also agree having to take multiples just to benefit from a rule is kind of annoying 😑 I’m just used to running prisms so it’s not a big deal but I totally understand. Luckily it doesn’t looks like prisms will be an auto include

  • @LoftOfTheUniverse
    @LoftOfTheUniverse Před rokem +1

    The flat damage is good imo because it doesn't have use for fate dice. This means you can use them for damage on D cannons, bright lances, and saves which are going to use up 6s and 5s imo

    The better comparison to the Prism cannon is the Missile Launcher; long range, two firing options, the anti-infantry option having Blast as well.
    In either case, I think Prism Cannons and Missile Launchers are better, because with the removal of battlefield roles, we're likely to see way more skew lists. And with powerful once per unit/battle effects, we're also likely to see "staple" units (units good in every list) which increasingly seem to be infantry sized models.
    The Fire Prism used to have three firing modes, and we're still stuck to 2 ala 9th edition. The real kicker to me is, that meanwhile, Thousand Sons get Fire and Fade as a repeatable main army rule, they hard counter psykers, and that Warp creature they showed off had three firing modes. Had to give the bottom tier faction all our cool stuff I guess.

    • @ProxyHammer1
      @ProxyHammer1  Před rokem +1

      The Warp time from the thousand sons rituals is actually just another move that happens at the beginning of the shooting phase, luckily it’s not after. I do wish to see a return of 3 firing modes for prisms as well I thought that was really awesome!

    I have been running a pair of Lynxes over Fire Prisms in Ninth. How their pulse lasers come out in the wash of the tenth ed. rules compared to multiple Bright Lances will determine if I invest in a pair of Fire Prisms or not.

    Here's an Interesting thought. Falcons. In 9th edition the falcons pulse laser is basically the same as the bright Lance. So if you put a brightlance on a falcon you are most likely getting 4 bright Lance equivalent shots along with the troops it can carry. Also you mentioned in a comment back that you can just grab a falcon turret and slap it on the same chassis As a fire prism. Where do you find just the turret of a falcon?

    • @ProxyHammer1
      @ProxyHammer1  Před rokem +1

      Oh for sure! Although I think sometimes you will want to give it a scatter laser to make sure you can score a hit on an infantry unit you want to target with the unit inside for the Supporting fire rule!
      The pulse laser alone is going to be worth it’s weight in gold! To find the turret you will probably have to comb eBay for one, they are pretty rare now a days

    Without points who knows how good anything will be. Given this edition is a hard reset and we have had no reveals at all for points costs, this is such a huge unknown that it makes speculation fairly pointless. Fwiw, my prediction would be that Eldar grav tanks have t9, the same as a rhino, and I strongly suspect fire prisms will be more expensive than you are hoping. The linked fire/fire and fade combo is fairly absurd, you dont need three prisms for it to be viable nor do you need to hide both behind a single piece of terrain as they only need to be within LoS of each other to activate linked fire. My expectation is they come at a premium cost and are worth it only if there is a meta with a lot of targets bright lances wound on 5s or there is a viable hide-and-seek defensive playstyle - although if there is, we should remember GW nerfed that out of existence last edition.

    • @ProxyHammer1

      @@scolack123 yeah, a whole load of the points costs are weird, GWs design team are clearly all on crystal meth. There is close to a 0% chance these rules and costs remain as they are though, Eldar are facing a major nerf and I think it will come quickly, probably before the next scheduled balance or points update. Groups like Goonhammer and Art of War are very clear that the Aeldari index is in 'emergency balance patch' territory, they have very good links with GW and have called this sort of thing correctly in the past. Sadly we really don't know what our rules are yet, all we do know is they won't be exactly what is in the index.
