FIXED: Electronic Throttle Control Warning Light On My 2010 Jeep Wrangler Sahara

- Well my Jeep Wrangler dash is lit up like a Christmas tree again. Today I am fixing the electronic throttle control warning light (red lightning bolt symbol). My Jeep has been idling rough and sometimes struggles to start since this light popped up. The temperature on the dash is also not registering. I believe they are all connected and the part to fix it is inexpensive.

You guys rock. Thanks for the video. 💪🏻
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Keep the content coming. Hope you have an incredible day.
Thanks man. Hope you have a great day as well!
Awesome video, short to the point accurate info!
Thank you!
Omg my check engine & tire Guage is always on too! (2008 wrangler 120k mi). Thank u soo much, I'm soo glad I found u! My Throttle control is showing ( 2 days ago) until I turn off car for a minute or too but it did come back next day & my heater stopped working, so we're gonna go out & get those items ASAP!! U r the best!!! 👍👍👍
Hope it fixes your problem too! We didn’t test the heater because it was the middle of summer 😅
@@PerpetualProjects TY!
Did the tem sensor fix the problem?
Just so you know, you cannot tell if a thermostat is bad by looking at it. You have to suspend it in a pan of water and heat it up. While watching the thermostat and the temp of the water, you see what temp the thermostat opens at. The thermostat should start to open at the temp listed on it and be fully open about 10 degrees later.
You are correct you can not see if a thermostat is opening at the correct temperature by looking at it, however you can see if the thermostat is stuck open by looking at it which is what we were expecting to find. I should have clarified that in the video. Thanks for the tip.
@@PerpetualProjects Usually if a thermostat is stuck open, as soon as you start the car, feel the upper rad hose and if it heats up right away them it's stuck open. The upper rad hose should go from cold to hot. Not straight to warm to hot. Good video thanks
i had this on the $800 minivan until I fixed the belt and put on a proper battery.. Not sure why it hasn't come back
I know alot of different things can cause it, including a dirty throttle body, so who knows what you accidentally fixed with the battery and belt?.🤣😂🤣
Sooo, am I understanding this correctly? Changing the temp sensor corrected the throttle control warning light? My daughter's jeep recently had the lightning bolt sign come on and today the jeep first wouldn't heat up but then it over heated. I was going to change out the thermostat (which I did two years ago) and the throttle control unit. Looking at this video, maybe I should test the thermostat in hot water and go buy a new temp sensor.
It did on ours because the computer wasn't seeing the temperature come up and that was causing the light. I assumed it was the thermostat stuck open but then when it wasn't I realizes it was not showing temperature because the sensor was bad. If yours is showing temperature on the gauge it may not be the same problem. If it over heated sitting still it could be the same problem because the fan also wouldn't come on with the bad sensor.
@@PerpetualProjects Good point thanks.. Tomorrows project I suppose.
My jeep does not want to start, after stopping n I gave me red power light..
My 2008 Jeep wrangler JK Unlimited has the Red Lightening Bolt. I have so far replaced Throttle Body, Accelerator Pedal and Camshaft position sensor. The red lightening bolt hasn't gone and my Jeep has no acceleration.
That sounds like a bigger problem than ours had. Unfortunately it could be a number of things, with out reading the codes it is impossible to give you any helpful advice.
Sounds like the same thing mine just started doing. What was your problem?
Did you ever get it fixed?
Question, what is the name of the sensor you guys change?
Hey it was the coolant temp sensor
Thank you 🤙🏼
Light comes on when I try to start doesn’t happen everytime
2014 GC 5.7 ?
I'm not sure, but if you take it to an auto parts store that does free scanning like Oreilly it might have a stored code that will give you a better idea of what's going on
If the thermostat was bad, wouldn't it be stuck closed? As well as being stuck open.
That's one way they can fail, but they can also fail open
@@PerpetualProjects True
My 2012 charger bolt light come on I replaced the throttle body and light still on an also the coolant temperature goes down to cold I have not seen any information on the for sure fix I’m stuck on this one
I am not sure on that one, it has been my experience that low coolant can cause the temperature gauge to go up to hot the back down suddenly.
Bad thermostat or bad temp sensor what it sounds like to me
Look at Amber go!
She's pretty handy and she says the funniest things in the process. I still laugh everytime I hear the "it's making a big mess" part.
If thermostat is stuck open, as is mentioned in the beginning of this video, then yes you can look at the bad thermostat? And visually tell it is bad!!
10 points for listening! 😂😂
I have this issue and the thermostat is new. Its not the thermostat. But the ECT and temp gauge seem to be linked.
OK I'm lost how did this fix the Electric throttle??
Our light was caused by the computer not seeing an increase in temperature within the first few minutes of the engine running. I am not sure why that is the light it chooses to turn on but it was and the code verified that.
@Perpetual Projects Wow So it must of been from extra out put the Electric throttle put out to keep the jeep at a idle speed I just put in a new Electric Throttle I just have to do a Reset for the new Throttle.
My throttle light came on, on Sunday and now my van will not start😭. I wish I was this smart to fix it myself cause I am tired of getting things fixed and then it gives me more problems 🥺
I understand the frustration! If you search for your van with that light there is a good chance there is a video on it! 🤞🤞
This light has been off and on ever since I got it and now it is staying on and won’t come off I’m trying to reset the computer now
There are many things that can cause the throttle light to come on, the engine not getting to operating temperature is just one, so if your temp gauge is normal, maybe look on some forums for other causes.
My Jeep will be working just fine and then the lightning light comes on and kills the motor and then won’t start for a terrifying minute or two then fires right up and acts like nothing happened 😑
Oh man that would be frustrating! Definitely not the same problem as ours but you’d need a scanner to diagnose that 😕
Same is happening to mine have you fixed it?
Throttle body not thermostat
Hi mam.2014 wrangler same warning is coming. Change throttle and pedal. Throttle connecter change. 2 days again same problm is coming. Code. P2110 p2118 p2101. Pls help
With those codes I would be looking at the wiring to the throttle control. Hope this helps.
@@PerpetualProjects ok mam 👍👍 check properly wiring
