I can’t believe a guy this honest, humble, animated and generally un-douchey became a Seal in today’s era.
Look at the flak the dude got from the influencer mouth breathers. He’s definitely the exception in the online space
@@yonmusak Yeah… some birds feathers are too bright to deny.
It takes a big man to admit his faults and weakness. It takes a bigger man to get back up and improve upon those weaknesses.
😂😂😂 If you don't fail occasionally, you don't grow. Sometimes we needed that embarrassing pain check in the military to remind us we're not God.
Hard times build character and resilience
I'll say this: if you go into the gas chamber in boot camp with clogged sinuses or cold like I did, you'll walk out with no cold/clogged sinuses afterward.
🤣🤣🤣 that’s very true
True true. Company I045 Orlando FL 93.
Again in Guantanamo 94.
Again in police academy 06.
Never again…;)
@@michaelepstein2720C017 Orlando '91 chiming in. And you stayed in the CS chamber until EVERYONE in line with you passed their quiz question. I dunno WTF Ballen is talking about being in there for only 5 seconds.😆
He's been my favorite content created ever since he hit it big with the strange dark and mysterious. Thanks for having him on!
Lmao I can admit that I was one of those guys 😂🤦🏾♂️ I was the guide for my platoon at boot camp when I joined the Marines. Week 5 was the gas chamber. Went inside the little house & removed my mask. The moment I took that first breath, I tried running out the door like a coward lol. Got dropped slammed by my DI cause I was the guide of my platoon of 87 & the ONLY one who tried running out the house. If you’re the guide, u can’t show any weakness. Which I did smh. Ended up having to go 2 more times in there with my DI alone. Oh man I regretted running the first time. That gas ain’t no joke lmao. Felt like my throat just shut up completely & I thought I was going to die 😂 good old days lol. #0311 Yut!
We went in the chamber took off are masks. Then we had to get in line walk to the door say are name rank an as number before getting out
His honesty os so refreshing 🙌🙌🙌
You need to put way more videos out with this dude He's awesome
Thanks, Shawn! Always a great reminder that growth comes from humbling moments in our lives.
He’s crushing it on how explains! I enjoy watching him, my wife always watched his content, and I can see why, well spoke, fun to listen to, very informative!
My experience with CS felt like I was inhaling shards of glass…
Such a bright man! His story made me smile❤
I love your interviews sir!
I love his story telling. Helps me stay sober.
How does him talking about getting tear gassed help you stay sober lmao
Cause apparently this guy huffs CS gas lmao
Check out dj shipley youll love him….

Thank u boys 🙏
I was a fan of Mr Ballen’s channel before I new he was a veteran and a seal.
It’s really cool to hear his personal military experiences on this channel that I’m also a fan of.
I love this story! I love his honesty! I love this man!
The more you are around CS, the more comfortable you get with it. Take that deep breath and feel it burn your soul
All you can do 😂 but it’s easy to panic when you can’t catch you breath
Our instructors didn't even wear masks.
I could listen to Mr Ballen read a phone book and be entertained. His story telling never misses ever.
Great interview
I got my team player card checked by a former team member recently at an lrp class. Im glad he did, i needed reminding to not be selfish and stay humble.
Had a guy that refused to remove his mask. We were all caughing thinking we were going to die .🥵 And they wouldn't let us leave the room to he removed his mask. It felt like an eternity in there. Some of the instructors were laughing there arses off. 😅. I definitely wasn't. Ill never forget boot camp. ✝️🇺🇲✝️
Thanks
we were teargassed in both my basic training cycles, it sucked hard.
Ahhh when we went through the academy, we had to endure the CS gas.. lined up, 3 rows deep, arm in arm, in a field. We had to stay put a couple minutes. NO BREAKING ARM LINKS. Canisters rolled and there we were. I couldn't tell up from down, left from right. Was right in the center, couldn't move, else would have. Felt like we were dying, no joke. Feel ya on that.
Been there done that it SUCKS.

CS is bad, but I think OC is worse. When I got OC'd it was humid and raining and I was sweating like a pig. After being on fire for like 40 min, I then went to shower and it reflashed just like they said it would if I didn't shower my head and body separate. My nipples felt like they were being sanded off and everything down below was like I scooped a cup of hot fryer oil and just poured all down there 😂😂😂
Thanks :)
I’m surprised they didn’t make him redo the CS gas test again. & if he doesn’t manage to complete it after repeated attempts then he’s out. - As I assume the purpose is not just knowing what CS gas feels like, but is also about demonstrating mind over matter.
I’m definitely not saying I could do it! (I most likely couldn’t), but I’m just very surprised it could be an optional test when trying to become a SEAL.
Yes, me too. I agree why they did not make him redo that?
I panic when my nose is stopped up too much. Feels like someone is holding me under the water, even though I can breathe through my mouth instead. I don't know what to say. I use nasal spray if it gets stopped up. But if I get really sick, the spray doesn't work. I tear my sinuses up trying to force it to work. I can't sleep. And it drives my whole house insane. I feel so embarrassed and feel bad for my family. I wish so badly I could control it.
Army basic @ ft leonard wood summer '93 we had to go in to the cinderblook room and you could cut the gas with a knife it was so thick. We had to take off our mask, do 10 jumping jacks, say our social, rank and name one by one. was 15 of us. Overall about 3ish minutes. Had a guy bolt for the door and hit it like a sack of potatoes as there was a DI holding the door from the other side. Also our DI's made us put on sun block before going in. It made the dame CS stick to our face, neck hands etc....A$$holes 😂 WTH is a recruit cup?? a couple pellets?? That sounds like a breeze in todays basic.
6:15 wow.... You know what.... mother fucking well said bro
In army boot camp we had to answer questions and do exersizes during the cs gas.
I heard that some people do 3 to 5 seconds...not my group tho.
Lmbo
I’ve been exposed to CS gas in training 3 times in my life and to be honest it was bad, but it wasn’t life threatening bad for me. However, I’ve never had to endure it for 3 minutes…yikes 😬
I wouldn’t hold it against him for running from CS gas for that long. He overcame that part of training and learned from it
I was 54B in army NBC NCO so I understand the concern about CS gas.
CS GAS Navy Boot.... my eleventh general order is..... That's how far I got... LMAO!
I feelz 'ya. '91 in Orlando.
So there was just about one thing i was more hardcore than Mr Ballen in.
We got grabbed when they finally let us run out and would try to make us sound off another platoons name or threaten to get put back in if not.
I was screaming wolfpack(my platoons name) loud af in that drill sgts face. Haha
Mr Ballen must be friends with George Costanza.
Oh John...
I remember I let my buddy blast me with cs gas he had bought in czech republic or some shit many years ago(I was coked up, drunk and probably high on pills..Was a rough patch in my life). Bro, that shit was so bad..I felt like I actually might die from this for maybe 15 minutes.
Marine boot camp 1985 it was mask off at least 5 minutes people fighting to get out. Zero air. I collapsed. Can’t speak of today or other branches but been there and thought I was dead.
No re-test?
Good for you bro.
Oh my god no way you got mr ballen
I always scheduled my annual gas mask requal during cold and flu season.
Did that shit in basic. Not fun! In reality, you're supposed to run from tear gas 😭🤣
Is this Mr Ballen?
I went to a [HS] military school run by ex Marines. Our fourth year, they took some of us to Camp Lejeune. Devil Pups, they called us... And we drilled with real Devil Dogs- the O Course, the live-fire through the mud, under the wire Combat Infil Course, AM PT runs with active-duty DI's...(for whatever reason, a Marine Recon unit was in the barracks right next door and three mornings in a row, a different truck, open-backed, full of their muddy weapons and gear, unsecured, was parked outside next to where we formed up at O'Dark Hundred for PT... Do they think we weren't, ANY of us, tempted? Did they sleep soundly? Did someone get gigged for weapons unsecure? I still wonder... Anywhoo) and we went to the CS gas course. I was the school PAO rep, snapping pics, taking notes, and I had my gas mask on the whole time while everyone else was snortin' n' snottin', coughing and retching... SNAP, SNAP, all the time feeling like an asshole- I led my platoon from the front. So when it was all over, we were all hosed off, I got the attention of the E-7 Gunny handling us that day (weird, an O-2 was running the Combat Infil Course) and told him I needed the real deal now, THEIR drill, without the mask. He looked me up and down, not quite 18, stuck out his giggin' bottom lip, and told me to hand off my camera and clipboard. Ohhhhh... Then Vas, the littlest guy with the weakest chin and asthma stepped up next to me; he'd been handling my other lens and ponied up cash when I shot all my film before we even got to the Island... So we both, all by our lonesomes, went through the CS house, did the drill, got the whole snootful of that shit... I got to experience the whole thing, even if they only used a tenth of the full-strength stuff, yeah, that was fun... NOT. Vas, on the otherhand, was on the ground where I was retching and gasping, standing up. And fully laid out, sucking hard for air and his glasses forgotten a foot away from the hand that had discarded them, he had the juice to wave off the Medics, roll over onto his front to heave it all out, and take the shit, work his way through it. After we got back, the word had passed around... My platoon, my Company was all like "Gunny Lewis, why TF did you do that?" and then, almost immediately after, "How's Mister Wasichek?"
XD
But he didn't run away from the grenade.
amen
Never done that don't want to. Ballen is legit
💯💯
Dude lol I think everyone hates the CS chamber (except the few who get off on it)...Worse if you drink from your canteens (which is typically demanded afterword i.e. force-hydration), because it's going to smell/taste like CS until the terrible day you attempt to turn it back in to CIF lol...
they told us not to touch your face and once we were done if you drop your mask or weapon your going back in and if not then ur gonna be sitting on those stands that you have on any section in fort benning or maybe any other bases have those stands where u have to sit in during training or when ur platoon is waiting for the next training event
@@erickiyoshiphillips2323 lol good times

Anyone who would like to experience tear gas IRL, I'd suggest purchasing "Da Bomb: Beyond Insanity" hot sauce. I did the confidence chamber in navy bootcamp, and I'd say while not the same, it does a very close simulation especially in terms of turning you respiratory system into a bellows to spread more burning.
I mean good on him for admitting he fucked up, but the comments section littered with reinforcing this behavior because it sucked for you just goes to show why the instructor said what he said. CS Gas isn't that fucking bad, and I've never seen anyone sprint away and refuse it before.
Jocko would say "Good"
The CS chamber is awful but its part of USArmy basic training. I was born hard nearly thirty year career cold soldier. None colder. When I was a trainee at Ft. Jackson South Carolina in those old school WW2 barracks on Tank Hill I took off my gas mask, did thirty pushups, jumped to my feet and called out "Hoo-ah". You feel like you are dying in there. Years later when I was a drill at that very same duty station (Fort Jackson) but then at Hollywood barracks every rotation I did the exact same thing. Hoo-ah! I don't run from anything. Duty, honor and country! Lead by example hero! Retired now but those were the days.
Yeah fuck that gas bro! been there and done that.... but cool u admit it and carry it with you!
Seems like john has had trouble with being too cocky and maybe arrogant in his life and hes been put down each time xD
How funny!!!
I went thru Navy basic in '91 in Orlando.
You stood in a line of 10, with maybe 2 more lines behind you, took your mask off and the instructor went down the line asking you to recite a random general order of his choosing. And you STAYED THERE with your mask off until dude #10 answered correctly. THEN you exited the chamber; holding your mask above your head.
5 seconds my lily-white ass.🙄
If you have a bad seal on your mask in bootcamp, you'll be exposed to CS for more than 3 minutes! LOL! But I'd rather get tear gas than OC spray!
He sounds like he’s reading a script telling one of his stories!!!

Excuse my sarcasm.. but why the heck to significant people where a ball cap backwards in an interview or at all?
Because they prefer to wear it that way. In this day and age you should be happy when they're not wearing a dress and make-up.
Who is it ?
lol
And it has no benefit to training. It's just a Ego from the instructions
Hi guy
You took it like a man

F....this guy...he needs to pay David Paulides about 250K for plagerisum.
Oh you mean all those missing person cases that are PUBLIC information and we're written about in news papers and TV shows before David. Get real David is just a kook.
The marine corp is not just a couple seconds. 3 times you have to break your seal to your gas mask. And take it off. You just stay calm. It’s not bad!
The marine corps gas chamber uses pellets in their chambers. He’s talking about a whole CS grenade. Two completely different ball parks. Done both, the chamber is a cake walk compared to an actual canister.
CS isn’t shit like you
CS isn’t shit

And through the rest of my career I was never even in the presence of CS gas or a canister of it. 😢
