  • In this video i will show you the process to create a standard kick sound with the new free VST Vital.
    The patch is pretty simple and my intent is to show you the process not the exact value for every modulation.

    this video was SO helpful. so many vital tutorials i watch don't explain anything and just give you a bunch of information all at once and its really hard to digest, but this video really helped me understand what you were doing and why. thanks you so much for this! especially the tip at the end about changing the noise sample to change the character of the kick.

    Nice, thank you! The most important thing I learned, was that you did not use the designated envelopes, but instead used the LFO’s in envelope mode. I suppose because you have more flexibility there.

    @ SPLIT THE SOUND
    I’m trying to make a distorted 909 kick and I have only 1 oscillator with a sine wave transposed down to -17. I have modulated envelope to pitch for the click sound.
    But I feel like the sub from the sine wave is too growly and bassy and not clean. Changing octave doesn’t help either.
    Any tips on how to make it better and get it sounding like an actually TR909?

  • @Luftbubblan

    Why do you like to pitch to -19, -39 etc? What is the idea for this specific value / note.

    And once the sound is created, how is it saved in "presets" ?

    • @HazyJ28
      @HazyJ28 Před 3 lety

      If you can't figure out how to save presets, you could always use your favorite wave Editor/DAW to record the output signal and render it down as a sample :). For example, if using FL Studio, you could trigger the kick while edison is recording and then print it out as a .wav
      Then, if you need to further edit/tweak the kick, you can open Image Lines "DrumPad" VST (comes with all versions of FL) to further tweak the kick and change the character of it. I will also reply back later today to let you know how to save custom presets in Vital once I sit down at my PC and figure it out (up until this point I have used Sytrus and 3x Osc, so I am unfamiliar with Vitals GUI).
      I hope this helps! Feel free to contact me if you need more help. I would be happy to. Music is all about community and culture and I want to give back and contribute as much as I can. Split here has inspired me to do so :)

    • @HazyJ28
      @HazyJ28 Před 3 lety

      Ok so there are 2 ways to save a preset in Vital: The first way is to click the "down-arrow with rectangular box" icon to the right of the preset selector (the big black rectangle at the top-middle that says "int preset" when you open Vital). This will allow you to save preset AND ALSO edit the metadata of said preset. Alternatively, you may click on the "hamburger icon" (an icon made up of 3 horizontal lines, directly right of the button I referred to previously), then click "save preset". Choose a memorable place/folder to save the preset, and you're good to go :). You may load the preset later at your discretion by clicking the preset selector- That big rectangle at the top-middle of Vitals GUI that I mentioned before.
      I hope this helps! Enjoy, and keep making music!

    How did you even get this to work? I only get the VST3 version which is missing features and poor resolution, the actual VST doesn't even appear after installation, the whole thing's broken and nobody else is even having issues, it doesn't make sense. Is this only for 32-bit computers?
